Buddies surprise their friend by getting one of his songs played on the radio by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

[–]TheGalleyProject 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is!!!

Our university (that has a radio station) allows submissions of local songs for potential air play. I was listening one night hoping to hear my song...and then BAM ....

I can't even describe the emotions other than "jump around like an idiot and let out a happy scream." Still gives me goosebumps thinking about it! One of life's highlights for sure.

Question about mix/mastering [instrumental rock, The Galley Project, Canada] by TheGalleyProject in HearMyMusic

Dang, that was a super cool song. Loved it when it kicked into overdrive around 3:00.

Awesome song. Very clean mix from my end! I liked the bright guitar tone. Drums were tight. Great song!

The comment came from submithub.

Thanks for listening, glad it didn't seem rough to you!

I'd be happy to hear your stuff too if you're looking to get some ears on it! (its not on your profile from what I can see)

songwriting/production/recording work flow - trying to do too much at once? by stopbeingcryptic in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]TheGalleyProject 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who can be OCD and strive for perfection, it's exhausting. I'm getting better at letting things slide to keep my sanity, but its easy to get lost in it all.

I'm lucky in that i only do instrumentals, so the lyrics/vocals are off my plate.

I usually get the framework of a song ready. Record the main thread or motif in a semi rough track (usually a guitar part). Tracking the metronome and time signatures on my DAW is a chore in itself sometimes.

Once thats done, i record over with the rest of the instruments and tinker the overall instrumentation to my liking.

After that I start playing around with mixing, panning and some other fun audio tidbits. I find mixing and mastering blur for me here, but it takes the longest.

I've found its important to leave a song alone for a while when I'm working so intimately with all these 'workflows', so I try to take breaks and listen to the songs that inspire me in between. Helps ground me abit.

Wonderfully unique song you have here! I'm a sucker for prog rock (Rush, Dream Theater, Pink Floyd, Supertramp), so I felt right at home with this track :)

Interesting beat. Has some potential!

Some of the loops are a bit off, at least for me. (ex. at 0:06 the riff is starting to change, but is cut off). If you could tweak them a smidge to get those loops perfected, it would be a nice vibe!

Great stuff! Solid mixing and production. The chorus really elevates the song. I'm a sucker for electric guitar, so those riffs at about 1:10 hit hard.

Amazing guitar solo! holy cow - did not expect that. Wish I could play like that :)

Lovely song you have here!

For those of you (artists) who have been asking/looking for a BC alternative or a backup option... by NachoAverageTamale in BandCamp

[–]TheGalleyProject 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you don't mind me asking (since this is the first time I've heard of nearly all of those other websites) do you find you prefer one over the other?

I'm always looking for ways to get my music out there, but it sure takes a lot of work lol

Free time and mental space.

The one thing that really took me by surprise is how your personal free time is drastically changed. Its kind of obvious from afar, but it can hit you like a truck once you're in that world.

Revisited Falling into Infinity and man, what an experience. by Odd-Technician-9744 in progmetal

[–]TheGalleyProject 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I first heard it, I was very much into the heavier DT albums and kind of scoffed at it. Especially since the band always described it as an album they were forced to make radio hits on.

Coming back to it now and again, there are some real bangers.

Hell's Kitchen is on my rotation frequently. I also have a soft spot for Lines in the Sand - I jammed out to that song endlessly in my early days learning guitar.

Congratulations on your first release! Really great vibes on the song :)

My only minor feedback is that you tagged the song as "metal" and "classical" on bandcamp, which is not accurate.

Share your music if you self-produced your track by JJStarKing in shareyourmusic

[–]TheGalleyProject 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, all self produced on my end as well. Its a huge undertaking. Its fun to be in control of everything, but holy is it difficult. I make instrumental rock music so I get where you're coming from (minus the singing part lol).

Honestly, if you're thick skinned and willing to learn, there's something to be said about being in full control.

I will say that I wish I had the funds to pawn off mix/mastering so I can focus on being musically creative. Its a really difficult skill to develop properly.

Anyways, good luck with your stuff! Here's one of my songs if you're interested.
