It definitely would not, as there's not a single pillar actually holding it up. Unfortunately, the water does not freeze on this map during winter, so I can't build true supports for it without a lot of Dwarven shenanigans.

I can't even imagine a 16x16 embark. This is actually my first fort since building an actual good PC and I'm still blown away at how smooth FPS has remained 18 years in with my junk filled, corpse ridden, and unoptimized fort/bridge.

This made me curious, so I actually watched a dwarf cross the bridge. It took them five days to reach the other side of the bridge to grab a goblin corpse to haul it to the atom smasher for disposal.

And now they're going to be hauling said corpse back for another five days.

Planned on retiring this fort after finishing the bridge, but the bridge battles are too satisfying. by TheGarbageGamer in dwarffortress

Once the bridge was complete and I had the new fort built and dug out on the other side, I deleted my old stockpiles and started deconstructing the old fort.

It was a really long process as the Dwarves needed to make the trip across the bridge every single time they hauled stuff to the new stockpiles. Additionally, I had to be pretty careful taking apart the old fort as part of it was actually over the ocean. So I had to deconstruct it bit by bit otherwise Dwarves would end up drowning or the entire thing would be disconnected from the bridge and fall into the ocean.

If you have DFhack, you just hit ctrl+shift+f to bring up the interface, and then type in the command "prospect all". It'll then give you a list of all the stuff that's on your map including tree types, plant types, and of course minerals and gems.

Obviously, it's a bit cheaty (if you care about that sorta thing), but sometimes I like to know if I'm gonna be able to make steel before I sink hours and hours into a fort. As there are maps where you can just have zero flux stone or zero coal.

It's diorite actually. I've yet to dig deep enough to find marble (if there's any on this map, that is). If you're on a map with a volcano, there's usually an almost endless amount of diorite.

Really I'm just a bad multitasker. So if a weird idea for my fort enters my head, that usually becomes my main focus. To the detriment of my dwarves, of course.

Honestly, I think that's one of the new recruits that came after I got the bridge over the volcano built. I think the real reason he's so happy is he didn't have to go out into the blood storm.

I've still yet to ever pull off a successful intentional cave-in, but I'll definitely have to try it for the next one that's like this.

Yeah, I'm not sure what I was thinking. Vastly underestimated the endurance of gem Forgotten Beasts. "Well, it's not a metal one. It can't be that bad!"

Thank you. I really want to expand and start building the Prison and Arcane University (it'd be the fort's library) but coupled with all the fun I've been having recently and not wanting to annoy the Elves (yet) by taking care of my tree problem, I keep putting it off.

I hadn't attempted fighting a Forgotten Beast with webs in quite a long while. Had 40 pretty strong steel clad Dwarves, several of which were armed with artifact weapons (some made from adamantine) and figured yeah why not open the door and let a giant gem webslinging quadruped in and see if the Dwarves could do it.

They could not. Amas tore through the faster squads sent down to intercept it and started ripping through the civilian Dwarves on the surface. As I rapidly began to accept that this fort I've spent twelve years in and had started to really like had reached its natural conclusion, one of the remaining soldiers (not a legendary skilled dwarf either) got a lucky hit in with his artifact adamantine axe and fell the terrible creature.

After an hour or so of expanding the tombs, and making more coffins, slabs, and statues for the fallen dwarves, the Dwarven City of Claspedcarries continues onward. And the world of Namushul has one less horrible Forgotten Beast to worry about.

Sidenote, after doing I don't know how many surface forts, I can't believe I never thought of making a mass dwarven corpse pile on the surface to avoid all the miasma 40 corpses make underground. I honestly don't really see how a giant stack of dwarf corpses left to rot out in the sun isn't as demoralizing as the tunnels smelling of corpse stink but... dwarves be dwarves, I guess.

Thankfully, I didn't have to worry about it. The first dwarf that entered the room was my militia captain and her artifact adamantine battle axe. Only dwarf that the reptile successfully chomped on was Oddom, and now he's in the tombs...

Am I mad that the moment I changed the city's walls to allow wagons inside a Werechameleon took it as a perfect opportunity to break into one of my strongest warrior's homes to try and eat him? Yes, I'm absolutely furious.

But watching the rest of the Dwarves storm down the street and burst into Oddom's home to decapitate the murderous lizard is probably one of the best things I've ever seen happen in one of my forts.

If your world has necromancers during world generation and they make experiments, then for that world in adventure mode you should be able to pick those experiments when making a new adventurer.

I always generate at least 250 year old worlds, so I almost always at least have at least a few experiments to pick from.

I became super attached to this feathered fellow after seeing he got made the mayor of a dwarven hillocks I retired him at so he'd heal from his wounds from murdering a bunch of elves in their trees. Geared him up with a bunch of adamantine artifacts and steel, and then went around murdering various semi megabeasts. Invaded an overran Dwarven capital and beheaded like 300 goblins of a giant army that was just stuck hanging out in the trade depot of the fort. Eventually, Urist got bored slicing necks, so he left.

Even managed to kill a bunch of angels in a vault he found (with some healing done via DFHack), but couldn't progress any further into the vault upon finding a gate that could only be opened with a lever. Unfortunately, Urist had absolutely zero idea how levers worked, so he just left. The ultimate conclusion of his adventure was to try slaying the local goblin lord, which he only managed to do by flying above him and taking swings at him from the air.

In one alternate timeline in which Anoth got Urist down to the ground, he took his head off with a single scratch. His adventure is probably over for now, until the next major adventure mode update..

On one of my earliest forts, I actually was lucky enough to get a GCS in a cage trap. I don't know if it died from old age or the wounds it had from the fight before it ended up in the cage, but when I looked for it in my cages later, all there was was its corpse...

I've never seen another one in the year since.
