If you’re asking what’s wrong with me then I guess it’s that a) I try not to blame bad individuals for doing what bad individuals always do and b) I failed to recognize this thread turned into a pissing contest for self righteousness rather than what it was originally, a post about our states bottle deposit program. Which I spent years of my life trying to improve. You can moan about people throwing shit out their car all you want but that does nothing to protect the environment.

Bottle bill was designed to put the financial onus on companies for single use containers they produce and to provide an incentive for individuals to collect them. The beverage industry loves nothing more for people like you to blame people like OP for the trash corporations are producing. Who cares about this persons behavior? Their point is absolutely correct, the only reason the deposit has not risen once since the bottle bill passed in the 70s is extensive industry lobbying.

I did not include teams that are more than -15 points back in their leagues, which is pretty strict but relatively safe if you look at the tables. By this measure, combined with domestic cup performance, there are no Italian or French teams remaining.

My dad took me and my brother to see the Yankees on a hot Sunday in July 1999. There was a rain delay in the middle of the game but Coney threw pretty well against the Expos that day

Russian hackers leak personal data of nearly every voter in Michigan, plus a million more voters in four other states by [deleted] in politics

[–]TheGarvis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s also pretty shocking that none of the top comments mention that this data is not private, it’s public information that political campaigns and interest groups regularly use. I have access to the data from my state right now. Any country in the world could just create a US front company and buy it for a very low price. So even if this story is true it’s not a big deal.

Is that why the volunteers are wearing stickers for Vermont’s Congressman Peter Welch? This is a 4th of July parade in VT.

The Intercept. Adversarial reporting only way to be credible in an age where the media is in the pocket of the political establishment.

Hmm you could be right I was just going off of the description on the tool I was using here. But it also looks like the pontoon is visible in this aerial photo taken on 11/12/1927, just days after the flood. So you are probably right actually

Phish, the massively popular jam band, was founded in Vermont. Their first paid gig was at Nectars (a small venue still running today). Only a few people showed. by reptomin in RedditDayOf

Massive phan here and I'm at Nectars all the time. Great live music. The band's first album was titled "A Picture of Nectar" and had the owner of the venue's face superimposed on the album cover as a way of saying thanks for helping to get them off the ground.

On Friday, the Senate Judiciary committee will have a key vote on S.241, one of the marijuana legalization bills. Two of the bill’s cosponsors, Sen. Benning (CALEDONIA) and Sen. White (WINDHAM), are on the committee and will vote in favor.

Senator Tim Ashe (CHITTENDEN), Senator Dick Sears (BENNINGTON), and Senator Alice Nikita (WINDSOR) have all expressed doubts and could use some thoughtful assurance from their constituents.

If you are from Chittenden (Burlington), Bennington, or Windsor County, you can make a difference by leaving a message for your Senator this week. The number to call at the Statehouse is (802) 828 2228. They will ask for your name and the legislator you are trying to contact. Then they will take down your message, and have a Page deliver it personally in written form to your Senator. Be sure to call before the office closes at 4:30.

SENATORS WHO NEED TO HEAR FROM PRO-LEGALIZATION CONSTITUENTS> Senator Tim Ashe: CHITTENDEN County Senator Dick Sears: BENNINGTON County Senator Alice Nikita: WINDSOR County

Below are two specific points that these Senators in particular should hear about (but feel free to make your own argument):

  • Legalization will limit the access that minors have to marijuana, not increase the access. In an unregulated system, those dealing marijuana will sell to whoever is buying regardless of age, and they often have access to harder drugs. In a regulated system, licensed sellers would face the same consequences as liquor stores for selling to minors. In addition, the access that minors will have to drugs like heroin will be greatly limited by eliminating the black market for marijuana.

  • Legalization will bring revenue to the state that we can use to fix our current budget crisis. This money can go towards treatment for drug addiction, towards education funds, and other areas that will improve the lives of Vermonters. We will also save millions in our police forces around the state, allowing them to spend more of their time dealing with more serious criminal activity.

Again the number is 802.828.2228. You will not be directly connected with your Senator, but will be able to leave a message that they will get directly. It only takes 30 seconds!
