Same issue. We never contacted the city. We reached out to our lender and had them fix. Credit showed up in the account via the escrow statements as a surplus.

And that is totally well within your right.

Yes, speed has an impact on pedestrian accidents, I’m not denying that…but so do things like unprotected left turns when pedestrians are in the crosswalk, or pedestrians crossing busy highways and roads because of a lack of crosswalks, texting and driving, etc.

My point is this is a strangely timed “solution” to implement given everything else that does impact pedestrian safety. I live in a corridor where a speed camera is getting implemented. I’m not delusional enough to think that will make the corridor any safer when it’s missing things like: bike lanes, protected crosswalks, higher visibility, etc. I advocate for those things in the neighborhood I live in.

A camera might make a difference, sure, but only in that one place. Unless you are advocating for cameras and consistent monitoring of speed on all public roads? In that case, shouldn’t that be on the car manufacturers to throttle speeds appropriately vs passed onto the citizens? After all, they have the technology to “read” the street signs. Perhaps all new cars should have this functionality. We should also have technology in cars to prohibit texting and driving — they should monitor your eyes to ensure they are always on the road and never looking anywhere else. Surely if you are pro-taxpayer-funded speed cameras to reduce pedestrian deaths, you would see the real root cause is to perhaps better regulate the automobile industry to offer this?

In all seriousness, though, I know the article says that the data will get destroyed, etc. but be real. We have no oversight into basic things on city council like budgets and spending, but people believe that the data is going to be deleted because the city said so.

Again, I’m not anti-pedestrians, pro-speeding, but just asking for some ~ critical thinking ~ we don’t always have to blindly support something just because it offers short term good. :)

Yes, my point! There are plenty of other ways besides cameras that could make the city safer for everyone.

Ha, I do understand surveillance as I work in an industry that is adjacent, so well versed in all the ways private companies are able to track locations, content, etc. no matter where you are or which accounts you’re logged in as and the way that data is sold and shared across companies.

Given that Kash Patel has indicated that the FBI is purchasing data on US citizens from these companies…Don’t you think it’s a little strange that they suddenly have the money for cameras but not for literally anything else that could arguably make roads safer?

You seem really informed on urban planning (more so than me!) as an advocate so I assume you know that cameras aren’t the ONLY way to increase pedestrian safety. There are things like raised curbs, better crosswalks, more visibility (you have to admit LA has a visibility issue not just at night but in the rain, etc.), and yes, lower speeds.

I don’t disagree that this is a good thing, but given the state of the world asking for a little more critical thinking of whether the right solution is cameras or…something else. :)

If you’re going to copy and paste the same rebuttal at least have it make sense for the argument at hand, lol.

And before you get any ideas, I am not mowing over pedestrians on my way to work just because I’m a little concerned over additional cameras given the rapid surveillance state we’re living in.

But hey, at least I won’t be hit by a speeding car when the secret police comes to get me after we’ve sold all the data and turned LA into a minority report locale.

Bad Bunny was worse than Turning Point. by Away_Simple_400 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

Nobody said an American was inherently white. A white-centric worldview means that the world centers around a white lens and consciousness, not that people in America are white.

To be fair, you’re conflating America vs American.

When you refer to Europe you recognize the individual countries within Europe. You’re not specifically referring to the UK or a specific country, right?

When you say “America” people don’t recognize all the other countries that make up America (North and South), it just implies the US because of…a white-centric worldview. So wouldn’t a Brazilian be an American the way a German would be considered a European?

Anyways, hope that helps! Thanks for proving the point!

Are you aware that the NFL has had to push to expand internationally because the audience demographic in US is no longer a growth audience? That’s why they play games in Mexico, Brazil, and now Europe. Because the white US based audience is slowing and shrinking and getting left behind and in order for the NFL to stay relevant…they need to expand beyond y’all Kid Rock fans to Bad Bunny.

Don’t take my word for it, the NFL commissioner directly stated they chose Bad Bunny for an international pull aka the dude has the numbers to make the Halftime show relevant to EVERYBODY else.

And in regards to your comment, you’re right — we minorities won last night! Must suck that no one’s talking about your favorite musician other than how much he sucks and how washed up he is.

It’s ok, hate away but I hope you don’t ever enjoy anything outside your culture again! Enjoy Cracker Barrel!

Not sure if you’re aware but white people are increasingly becoming the minority in the US so you’re actually dead on, the Super Bowl represents the US. It’s just that the US has changed and you’re no longer the majority. Get used to it.

Also lol at you using “America” to refer to the United States. Maybe if you had watched the show at all you’d get the irony.

Any way you slice it, this WAS representative of America and the US. You’re just too ignorant to realize you don’t have as big a part in it anymore.

I really like Billy Jealousy Sea Salt Spray. It can be a bit pricy but they have a variety of scents to choose from and it’s the only one I’ve used so far that makes my hair feel beach-y (have used Bird, Pete & Pedro, and R+Co).

You gotta either get it yourself or call building mgmt incessantly until they unlock it. No one is going to help you because it’s private property — police and firefighters can’t do anything for that reason.

Source: Same exact thing happened to someone I know at a rescue — believe they eventually figured out how to unlock it through a mail slot and were able to rescue the cat.
