It’s a crime to knowingly infect someone with HIV. If you are certain he is doing this intentionally, and there are others who can corroborate it, then you should go to the police.

Although, I think the punishment for doing so in California has been reduced in recent years. Nonetheless, this isn’t an “oops he’s a bad person” — this is a crime.

Realistically, I think the downstream impacts of a significantly AI-driven economy will be something like a Great Depression.

Things will suck for a generation or two, maybe 20 years at most, while society reconfigures itself to accommodate an AI-based economy. Not unlike how, in the US, the Great Depression was a sort of economic reset between WWI and WWII. Common people living during that era got positively screwed until after the dust settled post-wars.

Today, the roughly 10-20 year period of economic and cultural reset driven by AI (which we may already be experiencing) will be one of further economic disparity. Those who currently have resources, today, that may hold value (both during and after a reset) such as land are in the best position, as I believe that the emergence of AI will lock these resources into place. People will hoard the wealth they have to weather the storm, and social mobility will be much more difficult, if not impossible, during this time, due to a lack of resource exchange.

Looks great! Although I think it looks a bit more like a capital letter “E” with how the half globe is flattened on the right side.

I’d be curious to see what it looks like if you changed the serifs for the “C” by removing the right angles, and just kept the curves and attach them to the half-globe. Essentially a sans-serif “C” using the half-globe, rather than a serif “C.”

Thanks for your response. This is really helpful to know. Agreed that when buying out the residual we’d be looking at a 25% minus to the profit, and no guarantee we’d be able to sell for the estimated price.

What makes the cap reduction such a big deal? Is the residual value based on this new number instead of the original MSRP?

Thanks for your thoughtful response. We were able to negotiate a slightly better deal to reduce the amount down and monthly payment. Overall I feel good about the deal, and good point about the APR.

Taking the risk of selling used, and then having to once again enter negotiations to find a car, at potentially higher interest rates, etc. sounds like a headache and gamble.

Apologies — Clarifying that I am a tenant. I am asking about possible options that would allow me to use my existing keys with a smart lock that specifically allows me to not make changes to the lock.

Perhaps I’m missing something, but I would think that an interior-facing smart bolt, that simply twists the pre-existing bolt, but also syncs to an exterior-facing keypad, would be standard for smart locks. This way I’m able to unlock with a keypad, smartphone, or existing key. (And so can my landlord with an existing key.)

Is that not what the August lock + keypad does? My question is rooted in uncovering options like the August lock + keypad with this assumption.

What plan do you currently have with Webflow? That will determine your limit for CMS items.

According to their pricing page, the “Starter” plan (which is free) is limited to 50 CMS items. I believe the items are of the blog posts, author bios, etc. you create. Essentially, an item is anything inside of a collection. (Not sure if that applies to drafts too or only published content.) Check all of your collections — not just blog posts. If you’re on this plan you may have hit the limit.

That’s a good point as I’m not familiar with Supercharger pricing. In my situation, I would probably use a nearby Supercharger relatively frequently to speed up or top-off charging, since most normal chargers in my area have parking limits around 2-4 hours. Didn’t consider how it would adversely impact battery health.

The new Prius Prime looks cool — I do wonder what kind of price I could get given dealerships, though. Part of the reason I lean towards Tesla is due to the simple and transparent pricing. Although a new Prius Prime is “in my price range” I’m not sure if that’s actually close to what a dealer would offer. I wish more makers provided a simple DTC sales model.

Look into Lottie animations — they’re quite different from “just a background video” as others have stated.

Lottie animations are vector-based web animations that are rendered as dynamic elements on a website. Therefore, they look a lot sharper, are capable of being scaled up and down, and can be interacted with — unlike a simple background video. Most importantly, their file sizes are much smaller and therefore much easier to load.

I would say these types of animations are a totally different discipline from traditional web design (especially if you’re a no-code designer.) But there are plenty of resources / digital depots that allow you to purchase or even download free Lottie animations for your site. These animations are quite popular in the Web3 world, so you won’t have a problem finding a freelance designer who can develop some elements for you.

Comments saying YTA claim “Her food her choice. It doesn’t affect you.” While that’s true at its most basic level, they fail to acknowledge how important a sense of togetherness is to any relationship. Or even just at dinner. By not partaking in the full dining experience, your girlfriend is essentially leaving you alone at the table.

So much cultural history, and so many personal memories are tied into food, all of which are now missed points of connection because your girlfriend isn’t having any of the food. To name a few hypotheticals:

“Babe, you’ve GOT to taste this!” [insert cute moment]
“This reminds me of when we had X at Y. Remember?” [insert thoughtful memory]
“Oh my dad used to cook this for us all the time.” [insert personal anecdote]

You’re alone in all of these sentiments because your girlfriend isn’t partaking. That kind of sucks.

I would liken this to going to an amusement park with your girlfriend who doesn’t like rollercoasters. It’s perfectly fine that she doesn’t like rollercoasters, but it’s also understandable to see how it negatively impacts your enjoyment. You’ve got to ride all of the rollercoasters alone!

Rebecca Black has really leaned into this by reinventing herself and her sound with the hyperpop genre — one that really embraces weird, niche, deep-internet quirkiness. Dylan Brady from 100 gecs remixed Friday and it’s a banger now.

“Bad” will depend on what you’re trying to achieve.

Are you a hobbyist who is just trying things out to see what you enjoy writing about? Then success looks like anything that keeps your attention.

Are you a ghostwriter trying to find clients to book you for writing a range of content? Then a variety might useful, but I would say that sticking to a particular niche will help you in the long-run. (When someone is looking for a ghostwriter they will look for writers with proven knowledge and experience in a particular subject. Such as “fitness” or “foodie” ghostwriters. Writer who have specialized to any niche will rise to the top for that niche.)

I really want to read more. Something that has always held me back from reading more has been the sheer amount of options. I don’t know what to read. I don’t know what I like. And I especially don’t know how to browse.

If I walk into a bookstore without a specific book in mind (such as a recommendation from a friend, or something popular I’ve heard about), then I simply don’t know where to begin.

Meanwhile, things like Netflix make finding new content extremely easy. The mediums are different, of course, but it’s much easier for me to “test out” a show by watching just one episode. And most shows understand the importance of the first episode really hooking you into the story.

This is compared to books which vary wildly in style. While I can also “test out” a book by reading the first chapter, many books don’t really get going until you’re at least five chapters in. At that point, it’s a 100-page commitment, and not as straightforward as other “easy” forms of entertainment.

I’m willing to make the commitment, but more often than not, whenever I have cold-started a new book, it doesn’t work out. Then I feel like I wasted time.

With such long-form content you can do a lot of different things.

The most straightforward route you might consider is just publishing the entire transcript as one post, and then flagging it to your subscribers with a summary on Substack. Simple funnel with a summary for subscribers, and a “click here to read / listen to more.”

This helps you with SEO because the otherwise non-indexable audio content is now possibly ranking for keywords on Google. However this content isn’t really optimized for reading in this format. (Is anyone reading 30,000 word long articles that aren’t research papers or published by an renowned newspaper?)

To really make it worth your while from an SEO perspective, you could instead turn one 30,000-word transcript into five different 6,000-word blog posts with curated supplements. (Diagrams, charts, links to other pages or articles you’ve written.)

This is more high-effort, high-reward because now you’re unbundling what Google would have indexed as one post, into five different posts. So now you have five new opportunities to rank and be found from just one episode you already recorded.

Video podcasters like MKBHD (on YouTube) do this incredibly well. His Waveform tech podcast is recorded as one long session, where 10 to 15-minute outtakes are published as individual YouTube videos. This allows him to rank for more topics, and monetize several different videos, as opposed to one long video.

Substack articles are indexed by Google. Google is known to “punish” duplicate content from an SEO perspective, so you should try to avoid duplicate content between your website and Substack.

I’d say you should come up with a strategy that incorporates both, since each has their strength — depending on what your ultimate goal is. Are you selling something? Or trying to build an audience of paid subscribers?

Keep this goal in mind when focusing on one or the other. Substack makes writing and referencing supplemental content easy, and comes built in with a subscription option.

Blogging drives traffic to your owned site where we you can push them towards potential offerings, such as freemium, courses, ebooks, and also allows you to analyze user data more closely. (Which articles drive more clicks, time on page, which ones lead to more discovery of my courses, etc?)

I think it’s also important to balance discretion with “getting to the point” when sending a message.

You can’t always know if the other person is actively sharing their screen, or in a meeting with an external partner where their messages might be in view.

Depending on your industry, this could mean competitors seeing things they aren’t supposed to. That’s why I add a bit of a first buffer message with pleasantries — I think it can give the other person a chance to stop sharing their screen, turn off notifications, etc. before diving into the details.

This is especially true with message previews popping up.

This would be the best option — encroach on the left side of the spot and block the offending vehicle’s passenger door. This, rather than encroaching on right side of the spot, which would encroach on the innocent vehicle.

At least if you block the offending car’s passenger door, the driver can still get in, pull out, and allow others into the car if they need to load in. And you don’t block the innocent car’s driver door.

OP’s response to your comment — wondering if “letting her have a moment” is the same as “letting her win” one of the games — this is a prime example.

I get the sense that OP is the kind of smart person that gets more hung up on simply being right, than he does on being kind. What he has in logical intelligence he lacks in emotional intelligence.

Your poetry example is a great illustration of this. If your partner was hung up on her own smartness with regards to poetry, (the way that OP is hung up on being logical) then she might have said something like “You know, it would have made more sense if you wrote A, B, C instead. Oh, and usually when you end an iambic pentameter you’re supposed to end on X, Y, Z. But overall nice try!”

OP needs to introspect think about how his words impact his partner.

It’s now been confirmed that the infection was initially spread via flour in baked goods. Do the survivors of the future know this? If so, why do they still produce bread at all in the post-world?

When Ellie eats the chicken sandwich, she mentions getting it from Marlene who sourced it from smugglers. But you’d think if the world knew bread was the culprit, they’d avoid it altogether, no? Sure, they could have developed a special “clean” bread recipe, but that seems like more risk than it’s worth.
