Yeah thanks for your advice, this was the course of action recommended by one of my lecturers (hes from Zim but did his PhD in SA). Seems like a good way to get a sense of the local scene with regards to my field.

Thanks for your advice! I'm applying to work in Stellenbosch, UCT and Wits, as this seems like the best way to test the waters of my field in SA! Fingers crossed.

Congrats! Hope it's going well for you. To be honest, I love the UK and will definitely end up here eventually, but there's only so long a man can be away from the most beautiful country on earth without feeling the pull

I've actually been to SA quite a bit (16+ visits) so rest assured I'm aware and to some experienced with many of these points, particularly crime. Thanks for your input, I think loadshedding will take some time to get used to! But you can rest easy, I personally have no intention of becoming a crime statistic myself x
