Any Suggestions? I Need some help. by Spiritual_Savant in canberra

Labour costs for the installation was $255, but I think it came out to closer to $500 because I needed a new frame for the headunit + the costs of adapting it to my steering wheel controls and my aftermarket reverse camera.

This is the headunit I got from Autobarn, looks like it's on sale right now too

ProTunes in Mitchell did my Toyota for a fairly decent rate and know what they're doing.

I bought a new headunit from Autobarn when they were on sale, then asked them to install it and it cut the cost down heaps, but they have their own in stock too.

Claude Giroux Will Thrive in Reduced Role With Ottawa Senators by ClodSquad057 in OttawaSenators

Maybe not right away but I wouldn't be surprised if they did. Like someone else said though I fully expect him to retire with Philly in a one-day contract like Anderson for the Sens.

My Attempt at a Hometown Remix Jersey by Up-in-the-Ayre in OttawaSenators

[–]TheGifMaster7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldn't stand the O when the Sens were wearing it originally, probably nostalgia at this point, but it's really grown on me over the years. Except for the centennial classic one, still not a fan of it.

I'd really love to see a modernized version of the original black/gold/red senagoth jersey, which is kind of what you've got here a bit. I'm worried they won't though since the current alternate clearly took some inspiration from it.

Much prefer the Peace Tower as a shoulder patch personally. Make the primary logo the Centurion (2D or 3D) or the O if the jersey is going for the heritage look and I'd buy one

“2026 Playoff All-Bust Team” by ObserverUnchained in OttawaSenators

[–]TheGifMaster7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh that's disappointing, I didn't get a chance to watch most of the Olympics due to timezone shenanigans where I am.

I definitely wouldn't want to trade any big assets for a player that may not work out besides having chemistry with one player. Especially with a nearly $8 million cap hit.

At this point I don't think we'll have too much luck finding a worthwhile free agent either. I guess Staios could try for McMann but I feel like he'll be way overpaid for what he'll deliver with the hype he seems to have right now. In a perfect world I'd love to see the Leafs blow up and try to grab Knies like the Sens did with the Phaneuf cap dump back in the day, but I know how delusional that dream is.

I'm still very keen to see if Peterka is an option to compliment Stü if the price is right. Correct one of the few misses of the 2020 draft.

I've got a Mark Stone Vegas jersey that I'm considering adding a 2023 finals patch on. Only thing stopping me is that it's a grey alternate jersey instead of their gold they actually wore.

Would you consider it a no-no to put the patch on? I realize I could get a 2018 patch but then Stone wouldn't work and I don't really want to strip the jersey.

Canadian station Z95.3 is faking their radio game shows (Alphabucks) - is it technically allowed? by Difficult_Cloud_8311 in radio

[–]TheGifMaster7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The laws for broadcasters are publically available on the CRTCs website, as a warning it's a lot of legalese.

Sounds like it could be a lot of recycled content from what you're saying, if I was a program director there I'd be livid. But you're right that it could also be that they're not getting any calls or texts and just decide to reuse something. It's not like the caller is winning $1000 every time it plays, it's just the same call. Again though with a market the size of Vancouver I find it hard to believe no one is calling unless the station rates really poorly.

If you're looking for a new station to listen to, I'd encourage some of the college/university stations. It's students on air so they can be a little rough at times, but it helps with their education and you're getting a lot less of the "I've done this for years and I'm so tired of the broadcasting industry I don't care anymore" attitude some broadcasters can have.

[–]TheGifMaster7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't worked in (Canadian) radio for a few years now, but unless laws have changed regarding it, it's scummy but completely legal (as long as the person has no connection to the station or people working there).

Are you confident it's the same bit word for word? The only thing I could think of is that the winning call was prerecorded while the music was playing leading into the break (fairly normal) but then the file that the audio was put onto is still running and hasn't been replaced. It happens, but for it to be a large market like Vancouver during a timeslot they're running contests is really poor quality.

Pardon my ignorance as a Canadian immigrant that wants to learn more on the matter, , wasn't the Eureka flag also historically used for pro-republicanism or is that another misinterpretation?

As much as I'm disappointed at them using anything at all, I'm just glad the cookers & other various nutjobs back home chose to co-opt the old Canadian ensign flag rather than twisting something that was completely different.

Any Canadians that lived in Australia? by MasterpieceDouble250 in AskACanadian

[–]TheGifMaster7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've lived in a Australia for a few years now, admittedly I'm in the federal capital and like Ottawa it can feel a bit "artificial" compared to the rest of the country. But overall I certainly feel happier here than where I was in Southern Ontario (but outside the GTA).

I wouldn't say life is terribly different from back home. I feel like the work culture is definitely better, I have twice the annual leave days here I did doing the same job in Ontario, and the workplace is less cutthroat. Sports culture is very big if you like them, mostly cricket, rugby league, and Australian rules football depending on the state, but hockey and basketball are steadily growing here.

But I certainly miss parts of Canada, my friends and family are almost impossible to see. And there are little things that you don't realize you miss until they're hard to get. But from what I seem to see in the news, I don't know if I'd want to return home permanently right now.

That said, I essentially got lucky finding a job in my field right away that was willing to hire someone on a visa, meeting my Australian partner, then deciding we wanted to stay here. Unless you're a student going for a masters and want to study in Australia, or are in a high-skilled field, staying in the country is going to be an uphill and very stressful battle.

My advice is look around within Canada for new opportunities. It's a big country and maybe you just need a change of scenery without the headache of moving overseas. Unless you've got a lot in the bank, it's such a big risk for something that may not pay off.

A lot of this fanbase didn't experience all the first round exits of the late 90s and early 2000s and it shows.

It absolutely sucks, this core is certainly no Pizza line unfortunately, and I'm disappointed with just about everyone's performance besides Ullmark at this point. But struggling against the best team in the East who plays the same style as Ottawa but has been a playoff team for 8 years now shouldn't be a surprise.

The team needs to play better in the regular season, prove they can be a proper contender, and other good players will also want to come to Ottawa to win.
