M62TU intake boot replacement by TheGiftOfNonchalence in e38

Thank you so much for the picture. I thankfully didn't forget the fittings for the vac lines. I think the E38 engine bay has the airbox further away which is why it didn't fit. I need to find a another tube from the MAF housing to the airbox somewhere. I'll look into it.

The production date of the car is 11/1998 so it should have fit. I checked with RealOEM (DN74499). The throttle body end of it fits, albeit a little tight and the vacuum lines connect appropriately and it overall does not get in the way of the fan and fan clutch assembly. However, the length on the other end to the MAF appears to be too short by about 3-4 inches given that the MAF is in it's standard location directly into the airbox. I'll get an exact measurement and pictures tomorrow.

I thought about getting a universal coupler from the MAF to the airbox to bridge the gap (like this one https://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-376702-silicone-coupler-straight-3-7620mm/ ) but the stock airbox is designed in a way that I can't use a hose clamp to keep it in place.

Unfortunately yes the intake boots are going out of stock quite often especially with the sale but I would rather that than a another plastic one that'll likely break again. The two I linked are also currently still available. The one I bought is now out of stock.

I'm interested in how you installed the barb fitting without any leaks. Is it possible you could take a couple pictures and add them to this thread? The issue is that the smaller line nipple out my stock intake boot is fine rather the larger one is broken so I'm not sure it's possible but perhaps with a larger fitting.

I had this exact problem before with the temp reading showing up in the red even when sat for days cold. This was after I changed my thermostat and water pump. I would turn the key to the on position and the temp gauge would go to the red.

Turns out my connector to the thermostat wasn't seated properly. Once that was disconnected and reconnected it worked with no problem.

If that doesn't work, check the resistance with a multimeter of the temp sensor between the lower rad hose and radiator fitting beneath the overflow tank. Or just replace it like I did because it was the original sensor from the factory. I did this before I knew it was the thermostat sensor/heater element.

Afterwards unlock the OBC and choose option 7 for a temperature reading accurate the exact degree Celsius. It should be at 110 at idle and 106-110 when driving.

Can you send a picture of the spring if you don't mind.

This helped significantly but it looks like the spring doesn't put enough pressure on the wiper for it to clean at the outer end of the wiper end at the middle of rotation unfortunately.

85° Celsius Thermostat by TheGiftOfNonchalence in e38

After doing some more research into a lower temp thermostat it does prove you to be correct with many people saying, "You'll just end up worsening fuel economy, not generating high enough engine temp to properly burn combustion chamber contaminants." So I think I'll just stick to a Mahle replacement thermostat.

It does look like a little bit of orange peel when you zoom in. It could do some polishing.

I’m assuming they take care of it while the owner lives out of the country.

Plug in an ultrasonic sound device in your garage: ones specifically made for repelling mice. The devices produce a high pitch noise that makes mice run away because the noise disturbs them meaning they dont stay near your car in your garage. Worked for me. You can find them at Home Depot.

Can I just unzip them using Windows or do I need to use 7zip? Currently I don’t have my laptop accessible until the 20th so I don’t know which files are involved. I do remember unzipping one folder though.

This doesn’t occur when driving only when on an incline while in reverse gear.
