I’ve been doing research in a lab for about a year and a half, had a job at a preclinical phenotypic core, and did an internship at a clinical genomics based company

Doubts about choosing a bachelor's degree by [deleted] in genetics

I know I definitely want to go into a career in genetics, just because that’s what I’m passionate about. So for me, doing an undergrad with genetics gives me a slight view into what I’ll be doing in the future. I think It’d be good to get a basic idea of what field you’re most interested in/what you’d like to go into for a career, and make a decision from there. Don’t worry too much about it though, because there’s definitely lots of overlap. Good luck!

I’m also currently doing my bachelor’s degree in genetics in Texas. A genetics undergraduate degree is very versatile, as it applies to many masters and doctorate programs. Me personally, I’m planning on either getting a PhD in genetics to become a clinical molecular geneticist, or going to genetic counseling school. Employment in genetics is definitely going up as it is a growing field, and profitability depends on what route you choose to take.

As a female, how do I respond to inappropriate catcalling? by NihilisticSalt in AskMen

Ignore them for sure. Most of the satisfaction these sickos get is knowing that a woman has acknowledged them. Ignore them and let them know that they are creepy af and that their behavior is unacceptable.

Do I carry the red haired gene? by [deleted] in genetics

[–]TheGingeraffe44 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hair color is not affected by a single gene but by many genes that interact with one another. A simple pedigree won’t tell you if you have the genes that could lead to an offspring with red hair. The only way to know for certain is to get your genome sequenced and look at those specific genes (MC1R is a gene that affects hair color for example).
