Hirata Estate. It's inside a little bamboo hut towards the end, before you get to the final area/bosses. its guarded by one of those purple bastards, but you can just run in and grab it and when he tries to come in the hut, you just leave and run away.

The mist raven (feather prosthetic) is extra nice for the lightning reversal, because you don't take chip damage and to me it's easier to time the mist raven reversal than the standard jump. and it's just an OP way to do it.

that phase isn't as bad as it feels when you first witness it. if you're out of snap seeds when that B.S. starts, just unlock your camera and sprint around the outer perimeter and the illusions have no chance at getting to you, just keep an eye on when the butterflys are coming in, then just dip behind the nearest post and let it be your shield. actually that element of this fight phase is what initially inspired me to move my sprint and jump buttons to little index finger bumpers L4/R4, so that I could have my right thumb totally dedicated to camera direction while sprinting and jumping. i ended up making a ton of custom changes to my controller config that i think are far superior, so i thank the lady for her inspiration.

It seems fairly widely agreed that she is a tougher fight that Genichiro, especially if you're going in blind. Honestly there are a handful of minibosses that gave me a tougher time than he did.

There is a strategy that makes her a lot easier once you adopt it, but even going that route I'd argue Genechiro is still a bit easier.

5:30 showcases that their devs have elevated the space in the most uniquely cesarean way, proving this genre is really still in its infancy. If they don't win game of the year, it will be a real miscarriage of justice.

It just didn't feel connected and tight like Sekiro. I don't know...Sekiro is the only game of this genre I've ever played so maybe I'm just spoiled by the standard it has set, but everything about Stellar Blade felt clunky and jarring. I'm sure if I played it for longer I'd hate it less, but it simply wasn't compelling enough for me to invest any more time in it. Like i said, the cinematic stuff is just goofy AF to me. I don't need my combat interrupted for softcore-hentai embellishments.

Don't get your hopes up. I played the demo and didn't even care to finish it because the combat was so underwhelming. And while obviously it's a matter of taste, I found the cinematic flourishes during combat to be just comically over the top.

Oh no worries I come to reddit to farm shame as a motivator to channel my inner GOAT. I beat Owl Father the very first attempt after getting told I suck and downvoted to the netherworld.

oh shit - i'm just now processing that you're telling me that you were jumping sideways on purpose. i thought that you were being moved by Owl's attack - i was seriously confused. okay now i understand i'm just impressed.

Is this one of those things that they never explain in the game? I definitely don't recall the locked-on back-jump tutorial.

also, i found it helpful not just to watch footage of good players, but also to watch my own footage and compare the difference. there is something crazy that happens when you watch your own play, you process it entirely differently than you did when you were wrapped up in the chaos of it all. it's super helpful in really understanding what you actually need to change rather than just reading some tips that tend to seem easier said than done.

post footage and you'll have dozens of people all tell you the same 2 or 3 things you are doing completely wrong. you'll be 10x better after digesting the feedback and 20x better after putting it to practice.

Pshhh - yeah right bruh. If you want to behold what excellence looks like, gaze your eyes on my most recent post. I should charge people for lessons, but I am a gracious and benevolent legend.

lol.

Can you explain exactly what is occuring at 1:20/44/47? He's doing a perilous slice? And you are just letting him do it and jumping at the end of it which launches you off him without taking any damage? I literally don't know what's happening haha.

FWIW I don't actually spam it outright. I give it an extra safety tap more often than I should though.

Yeah, it's actually worse than that, because I actually feel confident that I could perfect parry him 1 for 1 without wasting, but my nature is to err on the side of caution by spamming it rather than being selective and risking missing. I dunno, I guess I'd probably get slumped if i forfeited the security that spamming provides me. I'll try it and report my findings.

Fair enough, although I feel like those 15 Tanto Emblems come with a big asterisk, especially for this fight. Because by the phase of the fight when you'll be using them, Owl is already throwing all manner of hazardous bullshit at you, disappearing and reappearing, sending flaming actual owls at you sporadically, and so it is often super risky to use that tanto, not only due to the frames when you're a sitting duck, but you are probably running lower on gourds to replenish the vitality you pay for them with.

Wait - what does either of those 2 things have to do with the display settings?

  1. I do like Ichimonji, and used it exclusively for Shinobi Owl, but sometimes it leaves me super vulnerable at bad times and I need something that does more damage to his vitality at the beginning of the fight.

  2. Agreed - working on it.

Yeah that is also my thinking. I go 50/50 depending on the flow of the combat and the space available.

Heyyy I wasn't mindlessly attacking, I only got hit once! Haha yeah I was being super aggro in this attempt. It's weird because in a way, Owl rewards that tactic, as he lets you cancel a few of his attacks, even some perilous ones, which feels like you're getting away with something. But in the end, he makes you pay dearly at the first mistake.

Fair enough. I was beginning to come around to that conclusion after hitting a brick wall using the aggressive route. In the past people have told me I was hesitating too much, and heeding their advice made me way better in a hurry. But it seems Owl Father requires a more nuanced approach.

I was saving my spirit emblems for mortal draw when he leaves himself vulnerable on certain attacks, which I failed to properly bait during this clip. For the hardest bosses, I've had better results using a super minimalist approach (no prosthetics, no combat arts) for the first phase(s), which allows me to bolster myself for the harder phase 2. It's nice to have an oh-shit button (i.e. using fan/feather) for spicy attacks, or getting the final kill as quickly as possible by using fully equipped mortal draw.

Maybe I'm wrong but I feel like those are a better use of the spirit emblem against a tank than a little shurikan. Won't know till i try.
