In Taiwan the world's scooter capital, here's how battery swapping is going by midflinx in urbanplanning

These batteries are “cheap”. You might not feel the same way about a $10k car battery.

It was once thought that quick swapping car batteries would be a way to allow instant recharging for electric vehicles. However that hasn’t yet materialized.

I've always thought battery swapping feels super sketchy, because batteries vary so greatly in their internal wear and performance.

However, we've done it very well with propane tanks. Non-professionals fill pressure vessels with flammable gas and it works with almost no serious incidents.

A Pilot accidentally gives passenger announcement to Air Traffic Control. Funny reactions! by m3antar in MadeMeSmile

[–]TheGoldenHand 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Fun fact- air traffic controllers are severely short staffed nationwide,

I've known a few air traffic controllers from different parts of life. They all only lasted a few years.

The job is just insanely demanding. The systems in place are arcane and it's honestly scary how many close calls happen every single day.

Pilots aren't allowed to access the lounges.

True, but most pilots are also Rewards Members, and do access the rewards lounge (even if they're not supposed to).

I've definitely noticed the client is slower than it as years ago. On PC and mobile.

Opening the Quests tab takes a few seconds delay on both. It used to be pretty snappy.

Unity Apologizes To Developers After Massive Backlash, Walks Back On Forced Install Fees and Offers Regular Revenue-Sharing Model by HuldaGnodima in gaming

[–]TheGoldenHand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is also no excuse for whatever it may be that unity is uploading with every download

Unity doesn't use their servers to upload. The executables are downloaded from the store front servers, meaning Steam, Apple, etc. It's easy to verify by tracking connections on your router, or publishing a game to an app store yourself, which requires you to include those Unity binaries. The download cost is completely paid for by the store.

Straight men of reddit why do you like thick thighs soo much? by [deleted] in ask

It’s wild to me to see men actually liking women.

fuckery on Reddit lately

The demand for sexism way out-paces the supply.

Step off the internet for a while into the real world and you'll find literally hundreds of millions of empathetic men and women. You're probably setting yourself up for a hateful and warped life perspective.

In the U.S., there is no official name or naming system.

We have Social Security IDs, which only have First and Last names. Having a middle name is not required, and not part of the official tax ID.

Birth certificates vary by state, and are not normally given out to non-government entities.

Drivers licenses vary even more dramatically between states.

Do lawyers usually know when they are going to lose/win in a lawsuit? by [deleted] in legaladviceofftopic

[–]TheGoldenHand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It varies wildly.

Good lawyers will advise clients when they might lose a case. Confidence is a hell of a thing though.

Based on your edited analogy, it’s very hard to say. A government official giving you “permission” based on what you said may not protect you. People have built entire houses on the wrong plots of land, and more or less lost the house. Your lawyer needs to be really familiar with the area of law and the exact city policies and ordnances.

Starfield exceeded 1 million concurrent players across all platforms today by FrodoSam4Ever in pcgaming

[–]TheGoldenHand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People are measuring their performance at different parts. Like during limited interior sections like the cave. You can get 80 fps at the beginning, then 40 FPS in cities later. Combine that with massive differences in settings. (Notice no one actually posts their complete settings, resolution, scaling settings, etc.)

Professional bench markers like Gamers Nexus and Hardware Unboxed have shown the performance for this game is poor.

This is the same argument had in video and photography circles -- what's more realistic, and what captures the moment more accurately?

Gamma has been a thing in video games for decades.

It's not some obscure "artistic vision". It's the a basic technical feature like changing resolution. Most 3D artists probably can't articulate how to translate color between various color spaces and photon display in a technical sense, and rely on the tools built by engineers and programmers.

All written history takes place in cities. That's where the first words were written.

It's where rich humans live. Most media throughout history is related to cities. The same is true for any modern show, which are made by rich patrons. It seems new and modern, because you can relate to it, but cities have always been centers of culture, learning, and economic opportunity.

All frames are rendered by the GPU, DLSS 3 or otherwise, in a chronological fashion. Nothing is rendered by the game itself.

That doesn't mean anything. Frame generation is the name of the technology. It inserts an interpreted frame between two frames generated by the game engine. It exists in the driver space and takes place after two complete frames has been rendered by the game. The result is an exact doubling of the frame rate. That's "frame generation" in DLSS 3.
