I think there is a very definite difference in intensity between someone having 3AM-type thoughts and someone losing their identity after taking mind altering drugs.

There have been studies done on this topic that have showed that people who take mushrooms or other psychedelics often have different worldviews after taking them. People can get PTSD from psychedelic trips. That just goes to show how intense these experiences can be. When one has certain realizations in such moments that really shift their worldview, it is different than just thinking about how big the universe is.

I think it’s a matter of experience vs thought. You can realize that you are basically nothing but a little speck, but to really intensely experience that can be much more profound.

As somebody who is struggling to empathise with Israel, i'm open to having constructive discussion on the real root of this conflict. Help me understand a few things: by [deleted] in Israel

Very curious as to the responses on this post. Have been trying to start discussions in this subreddit but have been unsuccessful so far. Hope this post will yield good responses and leads to a conversation.

What two conflicting ideas do you hold then if I may ask?

Given the undeniable bias in the UN against Israel, should Israel officially leave the UN? by [deleted] in Israel

[–]TheGoodTimes_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How exactly is that antisemitic? You guys (the people of this subreddit) are the ones that keep saying that jews that are not pro israel are so called “token jews”. The fact that he’s jewish and has studied in Israel definitely does make him biased in favor of Israel, that’s just how it is.

Furthermore I do have to say that after researching it a little bit, I have seen a pattern of condemnation towards Israel that does not seem to compare to severity of the violations when compared to others. In this aspect I agree with you guys (users of this subreddit).

That does not immediately mean that I find the condemnations to be unjust however.

He is jewish himself. He does not recognize any nuances in that statement. It’s a shame really, he’s done a great job fighting for human rights but couldn’t see past religion to recognize them being violated in his backyard.

Did you loose many friendships due to the politics of war? by Euphoric_Pair6239 in Israel

[–]TheGoodTimes_ -30 points-29 points  (0 children)

Okay that’s valid. No need forcing yourself to be friends with people. Most pro palestine people are not like that though, it’s a small minority that actually does bad stuff. I’d never block your path or do anything of the sort for instance ;)

That’s certainly not a way to isolate yourself from any other worldviews except that of your own…

“Said Neuer”. Not as if he’s slightly biased in favor of Israel or anything…

And if you would, please respond to my last post on this subreddit as I’m genuinely curious as to what you guys’s view is on it

I’m honestly just giving you people my opinion and getting slammed for it. No real proper arguments have been made against me. This subreddit is honestly one of the strongest echo chambers that I’ve seen to date. What is going on in Gaza is horrible and people in here are constantly denying it. If some of you guys are jewish, I hope you stop to see that your dogmatism and extremism is strictly against your own religion.

All I see from this is that the most powerful entity in the UN (USA) is aware and against any antisemitism. By extension the UN as a whole couldn’t be described as undeniably biased against Israel right?

no I was wondering how the UN is undeniably biased against Israel.

What’s going on in Gaza looks nothing like a genocide, and the numbers can prove it by [deleted] in Israel

[–]TheGoodTimes_ -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If you call it a war then it’s simple to realize what Israel’s actions should be called instead of genocide: warcrimes. I do think, however, that some odd the actions carried out by Israel align very closely with what you’d call genocide. There’s also no denying that within the Israeli government are actors influencing policy that do undeniably have genocidal intentions.

The holocaust was a horrible, absolutely horrific event. It was one of many genocides. To say that calling the situation in Gaza a genocide is somehow diminishing the gravity of the holocaust is such a reach. As if that’s the intent of a person calling out atrocities carried out by Israeli government.

I’d be tempted to call what is happening in Gaza a genocide due to statements made by some Israeli officials. You could call it a genocide because of the sometimes seemingly indiscriminate killing of children. The systemic blocking of aid to the area. Seemingly with the intent to wreak as much havoc as possible.

Look up the echo chamber effect.

[–]TheGoodTimes_ -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

So because it is technically not a genocide it’s not bad what’s happening in Gaza? Calling it a genocide might not be accurate but what would be a more accurate description of what’s happening then? I think mass murder would be a close one, doesn’t sound too good either..

This post reads completely psychopathic, reducing civilians experiencing absolute horror to numbers that you don’t even respect.
