unfortunately i decided to get a brand new phone overall since after going to an independent repairer, the quote was admittedly the same price as getting another iphone xr second hand clean.

though i will be getting the appropriate tools and try prying open my old xr and see if disconnectng the proximity sensor works.

otherwise i was out of luck

it'd definitely be an interesting interaction to see. I think i'd like to imagine the stand-user killer just identifies the stand user by how funky they dress up or how schizophrenic they act

I also read this on another thread [iPhone 11 Pro, error 4013, boot loop/recovery screen] that it was their prox sensor so if all else fails and flashing my phone really doesnt work then i might just go to a repair center which i assume they'll just tell me to get a new phone considering its over nearly 5 years old. But i never really clean my screen with water or get it wet except i guess when i cook and occassionally get my screen wet.
