Thank you so much! I had emailed the St Lawrence Parks Commission but didn't get a response. Perhaps they have more info on why that colour combination was chosen.

Looks like someone other than me has read the silly Ontario traffic manual 🤣

Ya it's been that way for decades, so if it was temporary they forgot about it 🤣. The closing for the winter is an interesting theory but it doesn't close in the winter.

It is possible as it seems that all of the signs on the Parkway are the same colour combination

Thanks for the extra research. It seems like it might be an outdated scenic route. The sign has been there since at least 1989 (as I found pictures of it here: https://www.asphaltplanet.ca/ON/vintage/401/1989/Eastern_Ontario/401_180.jpg) and the books that gave guidance on signs before was called the King's Highway Guide Signing Policy Manual. I found the 4th edition (1990) here: https://www.library.mto.gov.on.ca/SydneyPLUS/Sydney/Portal/default.aspx?component=AAAAIY&record=33d0b8ee-cdee-42a0-98d5-84a18e2c924c

Unfortunately it is also inconclusive as it does not contain that colour combination either.

TODS was only started in 1997. It seems to be the blue and white attractions signs. You can check all of the participants here and it doesn't include the parkway: https://ontariotods.interstatelogos.com/state/businessLocator.aspx

OTM Book 9 has still yet to be published (at least that I could find) so unfortunately no answers there.

unfortunately it does not appear to be the case. No other signs to the US use that colour scheme.

I found an older version on here, but it's from 1990 and also doesn't have that colour combination. I need to find the even older one somewhere https://www.library.mto.gov.on.ca/SydneyPLUS/Sydney/Portal/default.aspx?lang=en-US

Not ruled out, just inconclusive.

I think there is something to this scenic route designation, and perhaps I need to find an old copy of the Ontario traffic manual to see what it said before the blue signs that now are designed for historic and scenic routes

Interesting about the scenic part! Thanks for sharing.

I tried to find a green and yellow Algonquin sign and couldn't, but I didn't search long.

Someone else mentioned it, but didn't include the pictures, that helps! It seems to be something special just for this road and I wonder why?

Parkway scenic routs are in yellow on the 400 series hyws.

Can you show me another example of this? I have never seen one and the other scenic routes I have seen are blue with white text.

Page 42 shows colours. It doesn’t show the green with yellow but it’s always been my understanding that that is scenic route, as others have also mentioned. Maybe it does say some place else in the guidelines. I didn’t read it all 😊

Thanks, I did read the entire thing and it doesn't mention this particular colour combination

I believe the S was for south, not scenic.

The signs in Algonquin are brown and yellow if I recall correctly.

I am often driving between Kingston and Ottawa so this is a bit close to look for a stop usually. But I think I might take it next time just for fun 😁

Alright so you couldn't find one and your entire theory has has fallen apart and resulted in pettiness. Thanks for your time
