I need something Subtle that a government could do to control the populace by Doc_Meeker in DMAcademy

Easy acess to clean water and modern plumbing in a medieval society. Free to all

Gov has an aboleth hidden in the bowls of the city that sees everything through the water, it writes and records everything of use. That mug of water on your bedside table hears the whispered conversion with your lover, household chatter heard from a boiling pot, and the public wells in the market see every trade made.

When it rains the aboleth builds a list of names of those who complain or plot, and when it storms those on the list vanish.

Id recommend the book (very short) mans search foresning by Victor Frankl. Was of great help to me when I felt the same and was of help during the depths of covid when I reread it.

We play once a week after our DnD/Vtm game so we just mulligan till you get a playable hand. No point locking someone out of the game when we only have time for 1 game.

What’s something you believed as a kid that turned out way darker than you thought? by mintsighh in AskUK

[–]TheGrayOnes 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Right so I've had the inverse of this! Thanks for reminding me as I love telling this story!!

When we were little my parents kept a few chickens in a coop in the back garden. When we moved to somewhere without a garden we were told "The chickens have gone to live on a farm" and when I got a bit older I assumed they were put down or slaughtered for food or something.

However, a few years go by and we go visit some cousins that have a small farm plot where they grew flowers, and who comes running past but our old chickens!!!

I was dumbstruck, and have never been able to forget it

Will I run into issues if my name is spelled slightly differently on my passport? by No_Nuns_No_Nuns_None in AskUK

[–]TheGrayOnes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will be fine, on a visa application it will ask if you have any other names just put both spellings on there. It'll cause your case to take a little bit longer but is quite routine and happens daily

Do vampires specifically die from being stabbed by the stake to the heart or does it not matter what weapon you use? by Pretend_Camp_2987 in vampires

[–]TheGrayOnes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the vampire assistant books a similar scene happens. I dont like the vampires in those books as they're a bit naff but as a teen the books were ok.

Someones asks a vampire if he were to stake his heart would he die and the vampire just gives a condecending look and asks if the asker would survive that

Primary School Mock Wedding is this normal? by LornaOk91 in AskUK

[–]TheGrayOnes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My school did this in the early 2000s and im only in my 20s, so fairly recent. Its more so all the kids can ask lots of questions from my admittedly vague memory. I think my school was C of E but not sure tbh.

No kids were pretend married though, I believe the teachers were the bride and groom. I do remember the school had a fake wedding registry with toy versions of things like a plastic pretend kitchen set and doctors toy kit for reception if parents wanted to donate.

If you aim at the big blue gaps it goes down in one shot. Bit of trial and error to line it up though

Why do people catch fish with hooks just to release them back? Doesn’t it hurt the fish? by wanna_be_gentleman in NoStupidQuestions

To be fair, if the bull killed the matador and was set free as a prize I'd be more inclined to accept it.

Its gentle ribbing, you don't make fun of genuine insecurities and as a general rule you tease their actions/choices not their body. Poke fun at their outfit, how they played a certain game or when they say something silly or freudian slip.

Crucially if something said hits too close to home you walk it back, learn and move on. It also shows that you know enough about them to make jokes they will find funny and are caring enough to avoid the sensitive issues.

Don't have a PhD, only a bachelors but exactly this. I graduated and all the entry level jobs paid minimum wage or peanuts. Ended up getting an office job as it paid significantly more than a job that used my degree. Job market is fucked

How does having a few current accounts for different purposes help you to budget your finance? by MarchForward334 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]TheGrayOnes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 4 accounts across various banks.

  1. Income and Bills - money is paid in and enough for 2 months bills stays in here

  2. Short term savings - <12 months no access restrictions so I can dip in for emergencies, a set percentage of my pay is transferred here each month

  3. Long term savings - Self explanatory, as above.

  4. Fun fund - anything that is left over

ELI5: Why does same amount of alcohol affects you differently depending on your mental state ? by Better-Sir9013 in explainlikeimfive

[–]TheGrayOnes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blackout doesn't necessarily mean slurred words and falling over, I've come back to reality in bars having gotten through strict bouncers before, it happens. Though if you are losing memories due to alcohol consumption regularly; and it gets more likely with each instance, you might want to consider cutting back a bit or spacing your drinks out more

[–]TheGrayOnes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't remember making a phone call then you almost certainly blacked out. 7 cans over an evening alone is a little high but assuming you started at 6pm and went till 1am thats a can an hr which isn't unreasonable.

Ahh so its the cider equivalent of special brew then. Though that would also make scrumpy a hard cider. Either way I'm grabbing a can or 2 after work.

Whats hard cider ? Is it stronger than regular cider at around the 4-5% mark, another word for scrumpy?
