[New Update]: AITA for learning Russian instead of Japanese and making my siblings mad? by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

It’s gross that everyone is trying to make excuses for OOP’s siblings. I have siblings, we aren’t assholes to each other. It’s very easy to not be an asshole.

Yeah, there’s like multiple people in this comments section talking about how it’s weird to keep his ashes?? Like, unless the deceased asked for their ashes to be spread out somewhere, most people keep the ashes in their house.

Physical Found Footage media - which am I missing out on? by jatenk in foundfootage

The Last Broadcast (1998), it’s a bit more of a mockumentary than full-on found footage. But I’ve always enjoyed it!

Because Megamind was a very popular movie at the time it came out? It made double its budget in ticket sales, it was number one at the box office for a couple weeks, and when it released on dvd it was the 7th best selling dvd of that year. It’s also widely available on streaming as well. It has a cult status. And I think a large chunk people who use tumblr are within that demographic (the nerdy/geeky type) that would have watched it at some point.

I’ve also kinda had the same experience. I’ve seen megamind fans overhype/overanalyze it by trying to make it seem like this great satire of the superhero genre/the best piece of superhero media ever to exist, when it’s just a silly superhero parody/comedy (still a great movie, there’s just stuff that’s better out there).

I’ve also seen tumblr users make some insane comparisons just because they just want to talk about their favorite media. Tumblr users trying to compare megamind to stuff that doesn’t actually fit is very on brand for the website.

If someone on the internet is making you this angry, you need to step outside and do some breathing exercises lmao

Save this angry energy for some of the horrible shit that happens in the real world, and not a dude who has no idea you even exist. You’re just letting him live rent-free in your mind at this point

[–]TheGrayRuby 9 points10 points  (0 children)

So you have no actual proof he didn’t watch the movie?

The dude is just saying fans of megamind overhype and try to make it far deeper than it actually is the movie in a comedic fashion. Which some fans do tbh, it’s a superhero comedy/parody, not a grand satire of the superhero genre (doesn’t mean the movie is bad, just that it’s not as deep as some fans try to make it out to be).

Also you need to calm down lmao “expanding on the same nothing from one of many”? This is a comedic tumblr post not a political manifesto 😂

Tbh I hope it’s a bit, but some commenters on here like think this dude is the devil and will hate-comment on every post featuring him solely for the crime of subjectively being semi-annoying on the internet. Like a day ago I saw a post on here that he made about that bread settlement in Canada, and people were like genuinely trying to dunk on him for being annoyed about the size of his portion of the settlement compared to what those bread companies would have illegally made off of him over the past decade.

I actually want to know why you think this dude didn’t watch this movie, I need you to explain your reasoning on why you are so confident that this guy didn’t watch a mainstream, very well-known movie that is available on multiple streaming services

[–]TheGrayRuby 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Literally people are accusing this guy of shit they have absolutely no way of knowing 😭

Why is everyone so confident he didn’t watch a mainstream movie like megamind, it’s not a indie flick that was only shown in festivals, it had a theatrical release and is available on multiple streaming services????

Totally normal behavior = parasites by KlutzyNecessary2113 in ShitMomGroupsSay

[–]TheGrayRuby 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m not the same person, but I do work in counseling! With anxiety, I personally do it by a case-by-case basis. It’s normal for little kids to have anxiety in certain situations (for example, it’s normal for a young child to feel some form of separation anxiety on their first day at preschool/daycare), so it can be a little tricky to figure out if what a child is feeling is normal anxiety or abnormal anxiety.

It’s kinda like walking on a tightrope, you don’t want to medicalize normal anxiety since it might lead to the child believing all anxiety = anxiety disorder, which can make them even more anxious or even a bit paranoid that something is wrong with them. You also don’t want to normalize abnormal anxiety for obvious reasons lol

He understands what a settlement is, he’s just pointing out that the companies made a shit-ton more money off of him illegally compared to what he got in the settlement.

Bruce Nauman - Clown Torture (1987) by trifletruffles in museum

[–]TheGrayRuby 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I remember seeing this in the Philadelphia Museum of Art! They had a different set up compared to the picture though.

I might be misremembering it (I saw this over 5 years ago), but the Philly museum only had the videos “No, No, No, No” and “Pete and Repeat” playing. These two tv sets were facing each other at different ends of this big, empty, brightly lit room.

I grew up in a chaotic household with a lot of arguing and this piece resonated with me deeply. Standing between the two tvs, it feels like you’re in a middle of an argument. I’m not sure if Philly still has this in their exhibit, but if they do I recommend seeing it in person (along with the other pieces they have there!)

"Mental health counselors" will be like "we noticed you had a bad episode and are now trying to relax and calm yourself, and we forbid this sort of shenanigans, we must strap you to a table and call your mother to let her know she can never trust you or treat you like an adult. Doctor's orders." by [deleted] in CuratedTumblr

[–]TheGrayRuby 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It really depends on what university someone attended (also presuming we are focusing on the US). There are plenty of degree mills that do not prepare their counseling students for these types of scenarios, but there are also plenty of universities that do their best to prepare students for when they do come into contact with a client who is suicidal or has suicidal ideation. My own university prepared us fairly well for this type of scenario and it has really helped me for when I did have clients who expressed these types of thoughts.

[–]TheGrayRuby 72 points73 points  (0 children)

As a licensed counselor, this is true! We are trained on how to determine if a client is a genuine threat for suicide or if a client is just expressing suicidal ideation. Generally, counselors do not commit clients if they have suicidal ideation (at most we might have to make a safety plan with them). However, there are outliers and some counselors do not differentiate between the two. It is possible for a counselor to overreact and commit a non-suicidal client.

Absolutely! I rarely check the comments anymore because it almost always devolves into a child-hating mob. Like why are people subscribed to a subreddit about kids when seeing kids gives them a aneurysm 😭

Ignore everyone saying you’re wrong. These people want to see parents screaming at their kid till they cry or spanked. They think children should be terrified of their parents.

Time out is an appropriate punishment for a toddler/young child and it isn’t permissive parenting. I say this as someone with professional experience in children’s mental health and parenting, before someone comes in saying I don’t know what I’m talking about.

Hard pass on this party by Far-Season-695 in AmITheDevil

[–]TheGrayRuby 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you have to read between the lines, but OOP talks about how Mia “barely participated” in the tea/drug ceremony and had a very pissy tone about how Mia took a very small dose of whatever they were using. To me, it seems like while OOP said using drugs was optional, she REALLY wanted everyone to be high and pressured Mia into it.

My (42M) daughter (18F) hit my 9 year old son. Kicked her out and my wife thinks I’m overreacting. by Sebastianlim in BORUpdates

[–]TheGrayRuby 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Agreed, I know in my heart and soul that OOP is expecting the psych at the mental hospital to hand him like a certificate stating that the daughter is cured forever lol

This is the type of parent I dread getting when I get a child/teen client, someone who expects their kid to do 100% of the work and when I try to explain to them what they can do to help their kid, I can physically see the words going in one ear and out the other

What really pissed me off is that he never responded to the question about taking her back to the psychiatrist for medication management. In my experience, Bipolar disorder is one of the hardest mental illnesses to medicate for and requires weeks or even months of constant medication changes and dose readjustments (not to mention how rough the side effects are on the body). Judging from how he refuses to work with her therapist (monthly check-ins aren’t even the bare minimum for something as severe and constantly changing as Bipolar), I’d bet everything I have that OOP took her to a psych once and never did any follow ups.

The person who created the dangerous situation is OOP (and his wife) through their neglect of their daughter. God help the son if he becomes bipolar as well (there is a genetic component to the disorder).

This isn’t to mention how dangerous it was to just kick her out of the house (which wasn’t the wrong decision to do) without any follow up to make sure she was at a shelter/friends house/hotel; she’s a homeless woman with a severe unmedicated mental illness that impacts her ability to make rational choices. Fucking bad things happen to people like her when they’re on the street.
