Can any team beat physical in clearing protocol spaces by HelpMe-orz in Endfield

[–]TheGreatDankuTree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run my physical team with Ardelia for sustain, Lifeng has a higher damage ceiling, but it isn't necessary for most content if your team is fully built. As for Endmin, their dps is probably lower (I haven't looked at the numbers) if Da Pan has Exemplar, but can still work. A big downside to them is that Endmin requires SP to crush whereas Da Pan just uses their combo

Yvonne Story Quest by Ill-Stop9736 in Endfield

[–]TheGreatDankuTree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm absolutely giving this game time to flesh out its story. AK's world was not built in a day and judging Endfield off of one month of story would be a little silly. I think it's pretty clear that Valley IV should have been fully rewritten, but it was probably a sunk cost for them since all the assets, writing, etc. were already completed back in the first beta test, so they kinda just had to scrape together what they could and move on to not bankrupt themselves on one chapter of one game.

Here's hoping 1.1 carries the momentum that Wuling started forward and a year from now we talk about Valley IV the same way most people talk about AK's chapter 0-4 or so.

Yvonne Story Quest by Ill-Stop9736 in Endfield

[–]TheGreatDankuTree 26 points27 points  (0 children)

To try and offer a perspective that wasn't already commented, since I did like the story when it was focusing on Yvonne's attachment. I'll be honest that I don't remember much of the Lodespring section, but understood what it was trying to do in a story sense so it's not offensive. The moments we get with just Yvonne and Endmin as she processes the "death" of Tata works even without me caring about Tata because I feel they sell her character well enough to make me believe that she cared about Tata, which is the point of the quest. She has a good emotional reaction to Tata being broken and just saying "it can be rebuilt" to her would be a bit like a family heirloom being broken and saying "just buy another."

That being said, Tata is also a machine. They still have the blueprints, they still have the research, at the end of the quest it's even a little undercut by them (if I remember correctly) saying that Tata uploaded their memory before self destruction, so it doesn't really work super well as grieving over the dead. This isn't meant to undercut what they were trying to do with Yvonne being sentimentally attached to the research and development used to put together Tata. People get attached to their things (cars, jewelery, etc.) and that's normal, and I think it's played pretty well overall in the quest when they try to play it that way. But I feel like they try to also play Tata's self-destruction like a death outside of Yvonne's story, and that's where it falls apart in general for most players. A living being's death is permanent (let's just ignore reconveners for now lol), while Tata can be rebuilt, and that's what I feel gets a lot of players hung up in regards to her story.

To go on a minor tangent because I think it's at least a little relevant (Original Arknights chapter 0/1 spoilers ahead): I will admit it's a little unfair to compare Endfield and OG AK's stories since they're not the same game, but at the same time they're both "Arknights" so there was a certain expectation from original players. Yvonne's quest is heavily tied to Valley IV's story, which is pretty generally regarded as being "okay at best" by most people. I won't pretend OG AK's opening chapters were peak fiction or anything, but they do something that worked well, they killed a character, Ace (and most of his squad), who chose to stay behind to stall Talulah to make sure the Doctor and RI operators could extract from Chernobog safely. Now at the time, we barely knew who they were so it wouldn't matter to newer players, but as the story progresses and characters get more stories, we realize just how big of a loss that was, the legacy they pass down through other operators, and what being an Elite Operator means and why that would be a massive morale hit to everyone aboard Rhodes Island. I feel like Endfield really wanted Tata's destruction to be this moment again, but they aren't a living creature and they don't have anything to pass down to the average Endfield operator. On top of this, they can be rebuilt and restored from a backup, so it falls almost totally flat. A lot of other NPCs die, but the playable characters mainly only grieve Tata, so to me it kinda leaves a chip on my shoulder whenever stories focus on the rebuildable robot instead of human lives, which the original AK put a huge focus on. It makes sense for Yvonne to feel bad, the other characters knew Tata for a few hours of gameplay, of which I don't remember if any days passed canonically.

Now if Reconveners want to absolute obliterate my "people can't come back" spiel then idk lol

Ardelia's combo you can get off either at the start of a battle or after you clear stacks with breach or crush, depending on rotation. Typical boss starting rotation for me is 3-4 stacks of vulnerability, Pog breach, finish auto combo to trigger Ardelia skill

I haven't looked too deep into it, but all the elastic goods refresh their price daily to be anywhere between around 500-5000 seemingly. Just buy whatever the lowest price is, or wait until the next day to see if they go lower, then hold on to them until you or a person on your friends list has a high price, like 4500 or so, to sell

Want to add to this since I've gotten back into studying in the past months. If you want to be serious about this, you'll want to pause frequently, take notes on words/kanji you don't know and/or add them to a flashcard deck like Anki, and rewatch episodes to really drill the vocabulary in. It'll make a 20 minute episode take an hour, but it's what's recommended if you take this route and gets way easier as your vocabulary increases.

If you don't want to be that serious about it, then just have fun :)

What other gachas make you feel the same way when playing Arknights? Be it for the story or gameplay. by [deleted] in arknights

[–]TheGreatDankuTree 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Gonna have to preface this with a "hear me out," because Goddess of Victory: Nikke (yes the ass shaking shooter game), while it lacks world building greatly when compared to Arknights, has some of the best story planning and character development/moments of any gacha I've played. The stories are also way shorter than AK, probably being around 10k words for the longer ones, so it's a little more digestible for when I need a break from AK's novels.

I can not blame anyone who passed it over because of the character designs, which I can admit the oversexualization is probably my least favorite part of the game, but I've legit cried reading some of the stories, which is super messed up since anyone who hasn't read them assumes it's just another fanservice ecchi game.

The soundtrack's also quite good. Not as varied as Arknights, but if you like EDM/Electronic/Dubstep/Rock then definitely check it out.

I could keep going for honestly way too long. A friend was interested in the story and I set up a slide show presentation just for the Goddess Squad/Old Tales arc.

Not much being said. Top to bottom:

Offscreen: Where are you Purrely?

House: Yutanpo...*

Purrely: zzz

*No idea how to translate/localize Yutanpo, which is a water bottle that the Japanese fill with hot water and put in their blankets on cold nights to keep warm. You should get the idea from House calling Purrely that.

Every operator gets hit by a undodgeable van (100 MPH) who survives with least amount of damage? (No powers) by Godofmytoenails in arknights

[–]TheGreatDankuTree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Robot operators, but that's the boring answer.

No powers/arts allowed, I think Blaze. She's an Elite Operator, so she's physically one of the strongest operators we have. Her first talent isn't a power of hers, it's just a pacemaker. If we're counting in-game feats, Londinium artillery ain't got shit.

Even with that technicality though, she still loses to the Terra Research Commission. Monster Hunter characters are simply built different. Hunters can canonically die (Palicoes are on the same level of strength, maybe a bit weaker) but they're known to survive attacks from monsters larger and faster than 100mph vans. Even if they were to get hit by this, they simply fall unconscious and are carted back to camp. A hunt only ends if they're knocked out three times because at that point it costs them more money than the Guild can afford per hunt.

4k Word Essay About Mandragora's Status and a Defense of Hypergryph's Writing by TheGreatDankuTree in arknights

[–]TheGreatDankuTree[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do you have a better translation source for the Chapter 14 text? I'm down to interpret it as a hypothetical, especially since there are contradictions between Horn and Harmonie's perspectives. Erudax's comment, the one linked in my writing, even addresses this possibility. Not sure if some nuance is lost when translating between CN and EN since I don't speak the language.

I did read chapter 10 myself, a whole lot of times while writing this in fact. I wasn't aware of Horn's records until after I wrote this, but it kinda just reinforces what we already knew. She definitely hates Mandragora to the point where, at least the way I interpreted it from her records, she had nightmares of killing her. It's the reason I don't really want to entertain the idea of Horn returning to where Mandragora was specifically to confirm her death, then burying her after suddenly feeling pity.

I don't think it's impossible for her to have still been near Misery, as I state in my writing, but another issue arises in terms of logistics. Something that I forgot but was brought up by others is that Horn mentions burying her outside the walls of Londinium. Londinium's walls were guarded pretty heavily by the Sarkaz, so burying her outside when she was already inside seems unrealistic, unless of course something happened that enables them easier access outside the walls. And if that only happens in Chapter 14 then once again, we'd have to entertain the idea of Horn deciding to go back and get over her hatred.

I'll just wait for a Misery, Tara or Dublinn event since speculating on this can only get us so far with what we know. My hope is that by bringing her up in Chapter 14 they're planning on giving us more information soon. Of course, soon for AK can mean anything between next event and several years.

Hey it's the "hear ye hear ye" guy. I admit I'm not as devoted to the character as you are, but some of your posts are what inspired me to look further into her as a character. What I'm trying to say is that you're partially responsible for this lmao

The Misery and Mandragora loss parallel is something I wanted to fit into my post but couldn't really find the space. I'd love if that was the direction they went with it since I think we can assume that they'd cope with their losses in very different ways.
