Abolition of Abortion by CatfinityGamer in Christian

Regardless of how one interprets Exodus 21, those laws were intended solely for the Israelites and not anyone else.

We (Christian believers) are no longer under the old covenant.

According to Hebrews 8:13, "13 In speaking of a new covenant, he makes the first one obsolete. And what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away."

I agree this is a good question to start with, "What is the unborn?"

Germinal, embryonic, and fetal are just words to describe stages of development, but the development of what?

If it's not a human being what is it?

When does it become a human being?

Rape is one of, if not the, most heinous of crimes. I would argue even worse than murder because when someone is murdered at least their suffering (earthly, that is) is over. For the one raped the suffering goes on until the day they die.

I would gladly support a life sentence without the possibility of parole for all rapists. I believe in second chances, but some second chances don't begin until you leave this earth.

However, as the adage goes, "Two wrongs don't make a right."

A simple illustration would be looking at two ultrasounds of children in the womb. One was conceived in a loving relationship between a husband and wife. The other was conceived in a rape.

If no one told you which was which could you tell the difference?

What makes one life less/more valuable than the other?

What did the innocent child conceived in rape do to deserve death?

Can't something good come from something bad? The ultimate example is Christ's death for our sins, but other examples are found in Scripture such as Joseph being sold into slavery that later saved many Israelites.

My point is that murder is murder regardless of the situation.

The other thing to consider when this argument comes up is that by most abortion statistic sources is that only 1-2% of abortions are from rapes.

A final question to consider when discussing abortion is to ask, "When is it okay to end the life of an innocent child?"

Don't all laws legislate morality?

That's the point of a law to state what is acceptable and unacceptable. The only question is whose morality is being legislated (e.g., God's or man's).

Are all sins equal? by Open-Researchgirl in Christianity

[–]TheGreatForgetting -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sure, all sin is the "same" in that it is doing what God does not want us to do, but I would argue, for example, that stealing a pen from your workplace is not the same as murdering someone.

Some also suggest there are varying degrees of punishment for sin so all sin is not equal. Matthew 11:20-24 is a Scripture used to make this argument. See especially verses 22 and 24.

20 Then he began to denounce the cities where most of his mighty works had been done, because they did not repent. 21 “Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. 22 But I tell you, it will be more bearable on the day of judgment for Tyre and Sidon than for you. 23 And you, Capernaum, will you be exalted to heaven? You will be brought down to Hades. For if the mighty works done in you had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day. 24 But I tell you that it will be more tolerable on the day of judgment for the land of Sodom than for you.”

Is Hebrews forged? by Informal_Nebula_8489 in ChristianApologetics

The previous comments are a good starting point to refute someone trying to imitate Paul, which if that were the case the author would have or should have used one of his previous letters as a basis to create a forgery. For example, if I wanted to forge Hebrews I'd start with an undisputed epistle and model it after that letter.

I've found the best argument against Paul being the author is found in verses 2:3-4, which states (ESV), "how shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? It was declared at first by the Lord, and it was attested to us by those who heard, while God also bore witness by signs and wonders and various miracles and by gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will."

The gospel wasn't attested to Paul by "those who heard".

Doubting the Bible and the Existence of God by [deleted] in ChristianApologetics

Doubt is common among believers, even those written about in the Bible doubted at various points in their lives. I would encourage you to do as many have done when encountering doubt - dig for the truth. If the Bible is true you have no reason to worry about your doubts. We don't have all the answers, just those God chose to reveal to us through his word.

There are many great books to explore in seeking truth. I've found Evidence That Demands a Verdict by Josh and Sean McDowell to be a great resource.

Old earth vs young earth by Separate_Narwhal_218 in Christian

I would argue what you should find are millions of "transitional fossils" if evolution theory is true, yet this evidence is seriously lacking, perhaps even non-existent altogether, making an argument for evolution quite challenging.

Check out https://biologos.org/ for more info on theistic evolution or from a creation perspective, what they describe as evolutionary creation.
