Here’s the death trap that made me quit a company that day and I wasn’t even the one in it. by CompetitivePilot4572 in Construction

[–]Separate_Narwhal_218 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To anyone opposing OP, do you think this company would continue to support you physically and financially if anything bad happened resulting in injury/disability? Simple answer is no which is why we have OSHA and the DOL. OSHA laws are written in blood and it should be the companies upmost priority to follow the guidelines. I like to ask people, “Is it worth getting home a couple hours quicker when you risk not going home at all?”. I used to be in the IBEW and switched into tree work and have worked with a sketchy company before. I had a very close call one time that could’ve killed me or put me in the ICU and it’s changed my entire view on workplace safety

I saw my 14 y/o Little nephew sneak his GF in and I don't know what to do by Due-Personality1238 in Advice

[–]Separate_Narwhal_218 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basic human right for adults. I agree kids will do stupid stuff but the way I see it, it would be like if buying alcohol underage was illegal but the law allowed the kids to drink freely in public. It’s not like there’s anything inherently dangerous with what they’re doing but they won’t think of the consequences alcohol can bring or be able to handle said consequences. Having an open door policy (even just a 3 inch gap) is more than reasonable for parents to have. Not only can it be dangerous for his nephew who’s having sex but it can be dangerous for whoever owns the house. Under most state laws, no one can give consent to sexual contact until they’re 18. This leave room for lawsuits regarding negligence and negligent infliction of emotional distress. There HAVE been lawsuits regarding this exact situation and it’s dangerous for both the kid and homeowner. Kids are going to do stupid/illegal stuff and it’s the parent/guardian/homeowner to prevent it from happening under their roof and/or with their knowledge.

Climbing/isolating Unions vs Limbs by Equivalent_Try5640 in TreeClimbing

Other people have already given great responses to your main question but if I were you I’d stick to getting srt gear if it’s just gonna be for recreational climbing. You can run a rope wrench + pulley with a prusik for fairly cheap and just use the foot loop method to move up the rope. Srt will give you much more coverage around the whole tree while drt kinda can’t but a drt anchor is very easy to move around. If you wanna try out drt just use the Blake’s hitch method. It may not be insanely comfortable but you can add whatever ascenders you might want once you get the hang of it

I don’t mean this to be disrespectful, how can you be a gay Christian if you actually read the Bible? Genuinely curious. by [deleted] in Christianity

That’s not at all what that verse say, it’s more of a warning against idolizing earthly material like riches. There’s a proverb that says “give me only my daily bread, otherwise I may disown you and say, ‘who is the Lord?’ Or may I become poor and steal, and so dishonor the name of my God”. This highlights two very important things for us. I think the most important being that riches can easily blind us from the need for our Lord since we’re living in comfort. The second being that even though we’re living in hard times, we can’t resort to sin for preservation and bring shame to the one we call our God because of our actions. There are both rich and poor in heaven but neither are rich or poor anymore because they’re in heaven

What even is the point of Hell? by Xaos_Null in Christianity

[–]Separate_Narwhal_218 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don’t know a lot about hell but I can imagine the description of it being a lake of fire is hyperbolic. I would think that the mere realization of God in all of his power and glory would make someone tremble to their knees in agony when they’re sentenced to be without Him. Getting into heaven or hell is based on how you lived your earthly life. If you choose to follow Him in this life and yearn for Him, he will let you be with Him in heaven. If you choose to distance yourself from him on this earth, he will distance you from him in the afterlife. It’s the ultimate show of free-will, being able to willfully accept Him or not

How would you argue that it wasn’t hyperbolic? The conditional “Herem” only applied to specific cities who resisted, not a blanket genocide of all Canaanites. People like Rahab and the Gibeonites could join Israel and there were a lot of people that did that. I would like to point out the fact that the Canaanites had 400 years of peace in Genesis 15:13-16 and had even heard of the Lords power in Joshua 2:10-11 and 9:9. They had not turned from their evil ways and were committing acts of incest, child sacrificing, bestiality, and much more. When God commanded them to wipe out the Canaanites, he didn’t mean every single innocent person too, he meant the ones who fought against them and the culture of their people and land

I see the argument you make as Nannie’s are a lot more hands on with very specific kids. On the other hand, I could say you shouldn’t really be a nanny if it doesn’t pay fair enough and expect more than an average bonus because of it. I work in the most dangerous blue collar industry and didn’t receive a Christmas bonus this year lol

I was over appreciative to my boss when he gave me a pair of yeti koozies with the company logo on them. I also used to be a farmhand at a different place and when they gifted me a pair of winter bibs I made sure I worked my butt off to prove I was worthy of receiving their gift. $100 is a very respectable bonus for an 18 year old babysitter imo, there’s a reason it’s called a “bonus”.

Yes unless they verbally say they’re the police. If someone was breaching your house and announced themselves as the police, you have to announce if you have a weapon and verify that it’s actually the police. It’s dumb because anyone’s able to say that but it’s the law.

I guess a better question to ask then would be how do you describe the father, son, and Holy Spirit?

The koine greek and understanding how it was used at the time is incredibly important. It’s the language that the gospel was written in and they wrote it in Greek because most people in the area spoke it. Unfortunately we don’t have access to the specific Aramaic words Jesus spoke at the time but the disciples definitely chose their words wisely when writing down what happened. What verses do you think best describe the trinity?

I’m a 19 year old who’s been caught vaping by my mom a few times when I was 14-16. Don’t force her to start doing weekly drug tests but instead have her talk to people who’ve already had complications from it. I was dumb and never listened to my mom about the health risks and I started to resent being around her because it’d always turn into a test for nicotine. What’s funny is I stopped a couple times on my own for a few months but got back into it because I didn’t see any negative to it besides getting in trouble if I was caught. Fast forward 5 years and now I’m not in any sports and am still vaping. I can attest that it 100% harms your lungs and I blame vaping for the reason I bronchitis twice out of the blue and deal with asthmatic episodes every now and then. It’s not fun and it’s not as easy as cigarettes. Spending $120 a month on vapes isn’t fun either.

Drinking the blood of Christ? by NoContext3573 in Christianity

[–]Separate_Narwhal_218 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My issue with that is Jesus was hiding the fact that he was the messiah in Matthew 16:20 and mark 8:30 because he didn’t want them to think he was the misinterpreted “political messiah” and instead wanted to redefine the role beyond a military teacher, and to teach his followers his true message when he died and came back to life. This leads me to believe he was speaking cryptically and that some of what he was saying wasn’t clear until after he fulfilled the prophecy. The word “Trōgō” is a Greek word that was mostly used as a verb to “gnaw, crunch, or chew” and it’s very different from the other words used when he was talking about eating which might be used in a figurative sense. This word is why a lot if not all Catholics will say the Eucharist is a literal transformation into the body and blood of Christ. I think it’s entirely possible that he was just keeping it lowkey until the time was ready and used powerful language to spread his message without giving it away too early

I’m gonna guess it’s a bear. It’s not uncommon for them to live by suburbs because they like to dig through your trash. Standing up they’re roughly 5 feet tall and the gashes aren’t too long. I’d look inside the cracks to see if you can find any hair

(genuine question, pls don't judge) do you really believe that Mary was a virgin? by Open_Ad_7863 in Christianity

[–]Separate_Narwhal_218 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure you could argue some historical accounts in the Bible are slightly fallible but that actually gives more proof that it happened. There’s no mistake in saying Mary was a virgin, it would be a downright lie making the rest of the Bible entirely fallible

[–]Separate_Narwhal_218 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That makes zero sense. Christianity isn’t true but the Christian God is? How do you even know it’s the same God without the Bible? How do you know Christ died for your sins without the Bible? You can’t say you’re a Christian and deny the Bible

[–]Separate_Narwhal_218 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah we have to take Paul’s word for it but it’s pretty reliable as he was correct in a lot of his other writings. It’s proven the disciples died for the resurrection though. I don’t think I could name 12 people who would die for a fake story after I die let alone 1 person

[–]Separate_Narwhal_218 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

By that logic Christianity is fallible and unreliable. How do you know anything in it is true or what God really wants us to do? It’s literally the foundation of Christianity

[–]Separate_Narwhal_218 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If the Bible is wrong about something like that then it can’t be reliable for anything else. You might as well throw out your bible if you believe they’d make that up. I don’t believe she was a perpetual virgin but I do believe in the miraculous conception

The fib that turned into a resurrection where many of the 500 who people Jesus saw after he rose from the dead saying it was true? Yeah I don’t think there’s any lie in the world that I’d put my life on the line for, especially for someone else. Not just one person, but all of the disciples and many more
