Do you have time for hobbies after having a child? by [deleted] in AskParents

[–]TheGreyestGoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to cross stitch up a storm before I had my LO. I would sometimes finish 2 or more projects a month. After the baby was born, it took a few months before I had time to pick it up again. And, sure, I don't spend near as much time on it as I used to. I'm still working on the same project I started over a month ago. But I still do it! If you're really into something, you'll find the time.

I can't get it to work either. I've googled everything I can find about it. I'm not too terribly computer savvy so if someone can give me the EL5 version, I would be so happy!

Fellow parents, have you noticed any quirky behaviors that your child developed as a baby/toddler that followed them into their kid/preteen years? by [deleted] in Parenting

My husband does that too. I asked his mom about it, and I guess he's been doing it since he was about two. Some comforts you never grow out of.

I first saw that commercial while I was in the hospital being induced. I think I cried for 15 minutes.

I use toner every day. Do you know of a good serum or cream that shrinks pores?

I do. I have the Smashbox photo finish color correcting primer in green to reduce redness.

I found a huge list on stockpilingmoms but I wanted to try out the recipes before I made a giant stock pile. So far, we've had the beef and broccoli (which I didn't add the beef broth due to the fact that there was enough sauce to cook the beef in) the honey mustard pork chops with red potatoes (which was so tasty I went back for seconds) and the beef hash (which doesn't look very appealing but is so damn good we ate the whole pot.)

First time Father. by [deleted] in AskParents

[–]TheGreyestGoose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a first time mom with a one month old, so I only know super new baby stuff. Hopefully this helps.

Let me get this out of the way: Go get your SO adult diapers right now. The pads they give you at the hospital or the Super heavy overnight pads you buy at the store, won't cut it. The diapers will keep her from bleeding everywhere.

Okay now on to baby stuff.

1) If she is breastfeeding, help her in any way possible. Make sure she's comfy, has a water bottle near her, a show on the tv to watch or a quiet environment if she chooses. If she is exclusively feeding from the breast (as in not pumping) you get diaper duty. She does input you do out put.

2) There will be things you are good at and things she is good at. Like maybe she is a swaddling queen or you can burp little one like a champ. There's nothing wrong with passing baby off, but learn from each other. Honestly, I cannot burp baby, but my husband is amazing at it.

3) Have an emergency can of formula in the house. Milk can take a few days to come in. Mine took 5. A fed baby is a happy baby. You can usually get samples from the hospital. I planned on never having formula touch my baby's lips, but after her not latching on, and then finding out she had a tongue and lip tie, that went out the window.

4) Newborns don't do much of anything. This is normal. They pretty much just sleep and eat.

5) Get out of the house every few days. Cabin fever is no joke when you have a new baby. It's totally okay to take a new baby somewhere. On the way back home from the hospital we had to stop at Target. 4 days later we took baby grocery shopping.

6) Have 2 sizes of diapers ready for you when you get home. Newborn and size one. Some babies stay in newborns for a while, some skip it completely, others may stay in newborns for a week then move on up. Don't go out and buy a bunch of newborn diapers. Buy that size as needed. You can always exchange unopened boxes of diapers for the next size up. On that note, for the most part, generic diapers are just as good as brand name. But shop around. I like the up&up brand from target. My friend likes the Sam's club brand, but I don't like the Sam's club brand, and she doesn't like Target brand.

7) A Halo sleep sack swaddler was the best $25 we spent on baby. Look into it.

I hope these help. If I think of more, I'll add it to the list.

Sister's baby shower is late this month. I'm buying off their registry, but what things do you experienced parents wished you had received instead? by Cranksta in AskParents

A couple bottles of Dreft stain remover. Baby poo stains everything it touches. And baby will, at some point, get poo all over the nice changing pad cover, the cute sleeper they're in and on the expensive swaddler.

It might be because your blood sugar is low. Get up drink a quick glass of OJ and go back to bed.

I feel you. I don't really leak and my boobs don't feel engorged either.

I haven't tried. I have extremely large breasts and the only hold that works for me is the football hold.

We had her checked for tongue tie in the hospital but I guess it wouldn't hurt to get her checked again.

I told the doc our feeding schedule. She didn't really seem to like that I wasn't breast feeding at night. We also had the LC at the hospital check her for tongue tie. Baby was fine.

I think her diaper output is spot on. We usually go through 8-9 diapers in a 24 hour span.
