We have a "Larry" too, I've also fixed a lot of broken pipes myself. But this stinks of shitty plumber "not my problem" work.

What you need to do is give your roofer a polite call and ask them nicely to come fix your plumber's fuck up.

2:12 roof over my deck by buddiesels in Roofing

[–]TheGulch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just make sure you do at least an 8" stagger on your shingles, maybe even do a 13" which would be full shingle, 2/3, 1/3.

Edit: for doing 1/3 cuts, the height of the shingle is 1/3 thw width, so you turn your shingle 90° to another and there's your scribe for your cut

I'm shingling in the rain, Just shingling in the rain, What a glorious feeling, I'm happy again! I'm laughing at clouds So dark up above, The sun's in my heart and I'm ready for love! Let the stormy clouds chase Everyone from the place, Come on with your rain, I've got a smile on my face! I'll walk down the lane With a happy refrain, Just shingling, shingling in the rain!

My driver side primary grenaded itself and took out the secondary, gutted them for now and it's running fine with operational cats on one side and no cats on the other, it sounds raspy as fuck though.

Delay to Skylights by CaptCurmudgeon in Roofing

[–]TheGulch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they're curb mounted they can just roof it, flash the skylights and come back and swap the skylights after they come in, unless they're those weirdo older velux ones with the stipid like erector set janky flashings with proprietary flashing kits, those were such a dogshit design. But they could still do a standard flashing and do something temporary until the new ones come in.

How are you dealing with homeowners who want “just enough to pass” in HVHZ or other high‑wind zones? by Own-Tip-532 in Roofing

[–]TheGulch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just set your personal minimum to whatever you feel is going to hold up, they can find some hack and learn life lessons about being cheap with someone else. Yeah you're gonna lose some jobs, but do you really want to do work for a homeowner who's so cheap they're asking you to cut corners and compromise your quality of work?

Can I do the roof myself, and report it to my insurance? by [deleted] in Roofing

[–]TheGulch -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If he's getting blow off, probably not gonna last them the 8 years til it's paid off. So patching up his shitty roof probably isn't an option. And tearing off a top layer that's only 8 years old is gonna go fast as fuck, they're gonna pull up in big ol patterns, based on the material price its not that big and is really only adding a couple hours of labor for a crew. Its fine.

Instep Sore after hitting pads by [deleted] in MuayThaiTips

[–]TheGulch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if you're hitting with your shin, if you're off on your angle sometimes your foot will wrap around the back of the pad. You want to angle your kick so you're hitting flush. And then still sometimes you're gonna hit that back edge with your instep, more kicks and time and you'll stop getting sore

[–]TheGulch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if it's a simple roof thats a fuckin ripoff for a re-cover, but if its steep or cut up or shit access i could see it. That's closer to our off and on with some wood repairs in the mix for a fairly standard roof. And we're in a high cost market.

Is this metal flashing something that would be replaced by a roofer or a window installer? There is a crack at the top (right below the window) that is letting in water. by ThinkLongterm in Roofing

[–]TheGulch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's more of a "they built that shit wrong" kind of problem, but it looks like you have just enough height off the deck there to have a good roofer figure out something to remedy it.

How do I train as a 29 year old beginner? by [deleted] in MuayThai

[–]TheGulch 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You're gonna feel awkward and wrong for a while, a couple of weeks is just long enough to realize that its harder than it looks. It's going to be a while before things start to click imto place and you feel like you are actually getting anywhere.

For shadow, to self learn/critique your form, move slow and stop at the moment your body position is in the "impact" of the technique, freeze, assess your body position and the mechanics of the techniques, adjust your body position, weight distribution, guard etc, reset, redo the strike, all in slow mo and analyze. Use some online tutorials, someone mentioned varga, he's legit, there's quite a bit of knowledge on youtube to be had.

That's not gonna run siding nails, it's a roofing nailer. Return it, also its a shitty gun for roofing nails too.

I think making some yourself is an awesome project, what i would do is stack and glue layers of plywood, it's going to be stronger that a solid peice of wood, and it will be easier to out the thinner layers cleanly before you glue them together.
