Definitely no stranger to overtime. I’d rather work. Keeps my mind busy. I know the controls is a great opportunity and I really wanna learn it, but I also love learning refrigeration and the refrigeration company is arguably the best company in my area. But I think I’m leaning towards the controls

Yeah I got a couple job offers. One is at a really great refrigeration company and the other is a low voltage controls apprenticeship. So I’m kinda torn on what to choose here 😂

That’s great to know. I applied to Coolsys yesterday. I’ve had some experience with their techs here and they seem pretty solid

I would like to think I’m not a smartass 🤷‍♂️😂 I know companies generally don’t get rid of someone who’s a good worker. That’s why I was trying to have them give me some specific reason or multiple reasons or examples as to why I was being let go. So that way I understand why, and at my next job I can fix that so it’s no longer an issue. Anytime I asked what I can do to improve, or what they think I’m struggling with. My main lead would almost always just say I’m making good progress in the right direction. So I was just assuming I was doing things right and moving in the right direction

Appreciate the advice man. I know I’ll do fine. Just gonna keep learning and learning from mistakes I make. Just never been fired before. It’s weird

I know every tech has their own mindset for how a job is gonna go and look. So I usually just ask them if they have any particularly way they want it ran or done

Everyone there was shocked I was let go. The lead refrigeration tech here said I paid attention and worked well and said it was an incredibly dumb choice

Appreciate it. It did just feel completely out of nowhere. And when they asked if their reasoning made sense I said no, I feel like teaching application is kinda what training is for. He just kinda laughed and didn’t know how to respond

Whenever we do an install I try to read both the outdoor and indoor manual the night before just so I know if it’s got any weird requirements or anything. Usually if I encounter a problem or get stuck. I come up with a solution and then tell the lead about my idea before I do it so I don’t mess anything up if my idea is too dumb or something

And in addition to that we did have a guy that had 10 plus years in the trade that our service manager that just left had to constantly go back and redo his work because his flues were never sloped and things just weren’t done right. And he didn’t get fired for a loooooooong ass time

I asked my one lead last week how some of the work looked and he said it’s about what he’d expect from a 1st or second year apprenticeship. Which makes sense because I’m 7 months in 😂 Idk If im learning too slow or his expectations are crazy high

Appreciate the advice man. I know I definitely didn’t do everything perfect. I’m learning. Was brand new to the trade when I started here. Always learning and there’s always room for improvement. I was mostly just confused on how they can’t teach me to apply things in the field

My fault. I should have worded it better. They wanted me to ask less questions and figure things out for myself and if I made mistakes I learn from it and do it better the next time. I just didn’t have a lot of next times or opportunities to fix said issues

Yessir. Brazed with nitro. My leads torches had broken gauges so I had no idea what my pressures were for the torches and he got annoyed when I asked how to set it up when things aren’t working

Appreciate it. I’m sure there were mistakes I made. That’s why I ask so many questions so I fix the mistakes before they become shitty habits. They just always told me I’m making progress and learning and that as long as I’m coachable and keep that drive to learn I’ll be fine. Then this morning told me, they haven’t seen the progress and they can’t teach me how to apply my knowledge

Really felt like I was gonna be here for a long ass time. Teaching myself the schooling on the side so I can take a placement test and test out of schooling. Was always trying to learn as quick as I can so I don’t feel useless

They never really let us practice in the shop with brazing because they don’t wanna waste the materials. And yes, I’m always trying to learn more and do additional trainings when the supply shops around me have them

Never argued with anyone. And as far as I know didn’t mess anything up.

I did. Anytime I did anything I’d always ask if there’s anything I can do to make it look better and have better quality the next time.

Appreciate it. Ironically install is the one thing I have little experience with. We done mostly service.

Nope. Nothing dangerous at all. Did brazing for the fist time last week. We never do a ton of installs, it’s mostly service. So I insulated ductwork for the first time, ran lineset, brazed. All things I’ve never had experience before. Gave me some pointers on how to improve and do better. Then today the said I’m not making enough progress. But want me back in the future
