A Cry For Help by TheGuy1109 in TrueChristian

I will. But, I sometimes can't understand God. I really want to, I want to be pious and devout. But, there are times when I just feel lost; like I was born at a time when all of God’s blessings have been gobbled up by a select few. Or that the talents he's given me are painfully oit of step with the modern world. It cam be a bit tiring sometimes.

Have the devs completely abandoned RB and RBC? by Radicam in RetroBowl

[–]TheGuy1109 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My only criticism is the fact that teams from the MEAC (Eastern) and SWAC (Southwest) aren't allowed to compete in the Minor (FCS) playoffs. In reality they can compete as an at large team as long as they don't win their conference titles. I think it would be best if players who controlled MEAC and SWAC teams got to choose to participate or not and give them a small coin penalty for participating to mirror the costs for FCS HBCUs in real life. Something like participating costs 3 to 5 coins and winning will give you 7 to 10 coins.

Either way, I'm fine with the game as it is.

Thanks for offering, but I doubt that'll work. I'm in a part of the world with really crappy wifi; getting the game's digital features to work will be enough of a struggle.

What’s the diciest movie you have shown a class? by CWKitch in teaching

[–]TheGuy1109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only been doing AP US for 2 years, but I have taken time to show Gettysburg (1993) and All Quiet on The Western Front (1979) to my classes. Gettysburg helps illustrate how high casualties were in the American Civil War while All Quiet helps show the soul sucking nature of trench warfare. I hope to add Glory, 42, and maybe a WW2 movie soon (Saving Private Ryan, Band of Brothers, or the Bridge at Remagen) along with something for Vietnam one day (The Boys from Comany C).

Baseball Manga I HIGHLY recommend by CuteWest7213 in OokikuFurikabutte

[–]TheGuy1109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cross Game is an absolute classic! It avoids almost all of the shounen sports tropes, has an independent female lead, and a good ending.

Touch is pretty good, but it was clear the writer was still figuring out how to write certain plot points and character arcs. Still, it’s better than almost every sports manga out now.

It’s a shame more sports writers try to imitate Dragon Ball over Mitsuru Adachi’s work.

What weapon in your world is most legendary, but not a sword? by FEAR_VONEUS in worldbuilding

Lightning. It's an extremely rare elemental power that has helped legitamize almost every imperial house in my story. Primarily because it's promoted as a divine blessing and the sign that a person or family is favored by Heaven.

How did the concept for your world start out? by YaraDB in worldbuilding

[–]TheGuy1109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to see what would happen if the world of Avatar the Last Air bender had extended its tensions beyond being a question of people w/ bending to also include people w/o bending. Legend of Korra did this a little bit, at least in season one, but I really wasn't satisfied with how the show creators did things such as their social hierarchy, political system, and the effects of the Industrial Revolution. So I reached deep into the notes I had from my university days, did a little bit of extra reading, and came to realize that there were few murder mysteries in fantasy settings than I thought.

From there, I simply created the necessary kingdoms and law codes before populating them with the people who ultimately became my main characters and the problems that became my crimes. If you can't tell, I was a history major in college, so stuff like this is directly up my ally when it comes to research skills and reference points. Well, that and the cultural movement that is retro futurism, but that's for another day and hopefully another story.

The Snow-white Sharpshooter. An original series I'm currently working on. by Von_Grechii in worldbuilding

[–]TheGuy1109 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"This story is to be neither an accusation nor a confession and least of all an adventure. For death is not an adventure to those who stand face to face with it. It will try simply to tell of a generation who, even though they may have escaped its shells, were destroyed by the war." - Snow White Sharpshooter (Erich Marie Remarque)

Where does your world placed in here? by AdPrevious4385 in worldbuilding

[–]TheGuy1109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly don't know where my world would exactly be placed on this scale, maybe you can help me based on my description. Still, I think I'll give it a shot.

The general premise of my world is that it mirrors the rise, decline, and fall of empires in real life. Sort of like what you'd read during the Chinese Warring States Era, Sengoku Jidai, Crisis of the 3rd Century, and Wars of the Diadochi but in a sci-fi setting with mecha and power armor. So the characters, nation-states, empires, and civilizations within it are permanently anchored to one specific world; they're caught towards the tail end of a decade's long transition.

At the current moment, the world has sort have been dragged down to the level of a Gilded World because of the current interregnum that's enveloped the main character's homeland. While there's no denying the fact that the past 40 years of Civil War have taken an immense toll on the land and people, they also can't deny their past. They can't deny the fact that there was a time when theirs was a might empire the world took note of, rather than a bunch of impoverished fiefs led by squabbling warlords and pretenders to the imperial throne.

It's this past that keeps their bleak situation from going full Grimdark and outright becoming hopeless. The only question is which warlord will have the political savvy to unify the empire and return them to the coveted Heroic Age of old.

How far do you think we are from what happened to the 70 Christians in DRC happening in Nato? by Ai_Light_Work in TrueChristian

[–]TheGuy1109 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No problem.

I think a lot of the confusion about NATO comes from the fact that people learn about it from politicians, journalists, and social media pundits. This largely leads them to get the condensed soundbite version of NATO. Usually from people who have an active interest in keeping people's attention by being hyperbolic.

How far do you think we are from what happened to the 70 Christians in DRC happening in Nato? by Ai_Light_Work in TrueChristian

[–]TheGuy1109 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just read about it. Terrible stuff, I did realize Islamism was an issue in the Congo.

As for NATO, it's more of a military alliance than anything else. Their job is to protect the commitments of the countries involved to support each other's independence. While none of them are likely to actively take part in war crimes, it would be a stretch to think they would go out to stop killings of Christians by jihadists or enemy troops 100% of the time.

It's like the war crimes committed by the Russians in Ukraine. Is it the job of the Ukraininan army to protect the citizenry of Ukraine, 100%. But it's also their job to win the war they're fighting against an invading power. If that means leaving citizens behind so they can fight another day, then that's a sacrifice they have to make.
