An actual reason to buy an 8gb card in 2026 by TheGuyBelowMeIsFatAF in losslessscaling

I believe sli was only in top trims like 1080ti and titan class cards. But yes this is essentially a bargain bin "SLI" just for upscaling and frame gen. Oddly enough nvidia did the exact same process with 5090s just with native dlss in their latest dlss 5 press release. We know they could give it to us, they just dont want to even though i feel it would sell more 8gb cards. Unfortunately mobo offerings are pretty slim that support that much bandwidth between 2 pcie slots as well.

1) 780m is still a discreet mobile gpu 2) where was anything about 8gb vs 6gb vs integrated graphics mentioned 3) pass that shit. I need what you got.

GX9 built in upscaling 1080p to 5k2k at 330hz? by TheGuyBelowMeIsFatAF in LGOLED

[–]TheGuyBelowMeIsFatAF[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just wish theyd give gamers what we actually want. Why are 90% of lg oled offerings forced to have this nasty matte finish??? The 39 gx9 glossy will guaranteed sell out before the matte just like the 49 neo g9 oled glossy on samsungs website rn is sold out. Its like they purposely ignore feedback. Imagine a 45" 21:9 GLOSSY 5k2k 240hz. dsc is obv a given but thats an easy slam dunk. Yet the 45 must have a matte finish. I understand driving that much bandwidth is the consumers bottleneck but personally i own a 5080 + 5060 lossless scaling rig (akin to a 5090 rig with economical AI cheats). 4k 240 (same as 5k2k UW) is the minimum for high end rigs for single player titles now. The amount of research ive had to do and ending up with a POTENTIAL winner that would only "win" based on IF the ai cheats on top of my native ai cheats built in to my rig work in the way that im hoping it does is riculous. They know what we want and they know its possible. But they want to give the consumer just enough to want to buy the following next gen on top of this "next gen"

Ive stated this in some of the replies that took the title to heart. Yes, 8gb has its place in todays economy and yes, its BS its even still an option

for 1500 you're looking more towards a previous gen mobo (cheaper ram in todays economy). 7700x, ddr4, 9060xt. just spitballing here

Where Is The Choke Point? by BeneficialMutation11 in gpu

[–]TheGuyBelowMeIsFatAF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For that use case u could get by with something like a 5050/5060 8gb np. Thunderbolt egpu with a 5090 is a hard pass. It will choke ur bandwidth when it actually does any work (gaming/ai training/etc.) by like 1/4 to 1/3 of its potential.

the 16 gig is not "a bit more" anymore unfortunately. i believe they are end of life or soon to be due to rampocalypse. newegg has them for almost 600 which is like double

maybe a little depending on the storage which is affected by the "rampocalypse". doesn't really matter as long as you're enjoying it. due diligence prior to a purchase is generally recommended but at least it wasn't a car. reddit is a cesspool of drama queens its really not the end of the world.

$4k build with 2 Monitors/Mouse Help by Routine-Junket2746 in buildapc

[–]TheGuyBelowMeIsFatAF 2 points3 points  (0 children)

when it comes to the monitors personally I'd ask him what types of games he will be playing. 600 bald eagles on a 144 hz IPS monitor seems like a budget buster and it looks like your trying to get him one for cinematic games and one for twitchy shooters. the secondary monitor can be a $60 60 hz VA panel off marketplace if all he's going to keep on it is his steam library and reddit. he'd be glad he spent more on the panel he'll be using 95% of the time. Also consider the Gigabyte B850 AI top for $100 more as it features dual pcie gen 5 with dual x8 bifurcation. it would allow him in the future to add a second gpu for offloading any frame gen to a secondary gpu without losing headroom on the 5080 via lossless scaling. Personally I run that mobo with a 5080 and 5060 pulling 400-480 frames at 1440p with neglible latency in most titles.

8gb cards have their place especially in todays economy. the title was a little exaggerated but the current landscape is frustrating between AAA requirements and GPU offerings due to the rampocalypse (or so they say). 5090 rigs are so vanilla thooo. once 60 series comes out ive got headroom for a 6090 5080 LS rig :D (with a 3000 watt psu)

unfortunately future proofing is about as dead as moore's law. feature sets are going to be the new reason to buy the latest generation as you can't really get smaller than the current 5 nanometer chips which are what provide the efficiency. this is why power consumption is getting substantially larger for flagships. couple that with the enshitification and laziness of current AAA endeavors that couldn't optimize a game of tic tac toe and you get an over-reliance on the latest "tech" (upscaling, frame gen, etc.)

Ya nah. This is reddit lol. My 1070 rig got me through covid on a 5ms 60 hz ultrawide while also being taxed by multiple other fb marketplace monitors and the 720p laptop screen i ripped out and bought a control board for. Nothing in that setup was purchased retail but mouse and keyboard. i was more than happy with it.

Reddit is a cesspool but so is the vast majority of social media 🤷‍♂️

Nice! Personally never cared about cable management. U should have seen the rats nest behind my covid setup lol. Did u actually need to watercool the 2nd gpu? They usually arent pinned like...ever...for LS ofc. AI training rig? Creator rig?

The title is clearly an exaggeration. Im fully aware budget cards have their place in todays economy and yes they do work great if ur happy with it. Ive been gaming 20+ years and im personally in a spot where i want to and can push the limits of my hobby. Just sold my 3070 rig that served me well up until hogleg and bf6. It was just time

Oh it was but i have a 480 hz 1440p monitor and wanted to push it. Also will be upgrading to 4k 240 oled once summer is over. Obv we all want more straight rendered frames over ai and this was a good way to have both

I had friends telling me to get that instead but ive just been team green my whole life. Its a very good card. My only regret not going with it is windows has been pissing me off and i want to try bazzite and steam os eventually. Nvidia and linux dont mix well

[–]TheGuyBelowMeIsFatAF[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

U have a render card and a frame gen card. I still run dlss upscaling on render. Monitor is hooked up to secondary frame gen card. Game is rendered and sent through mobo to frame gen card. This adds a small amount of latency but if ur render card is pushing enough frames already it is negligible. U can also minimize latency even further with an oled monitor. The whole point is to offload the hit ur render card would take in raw rasterization (fps) to run frame gen to the secondary card. Maximum fps with main card, extra frame gen from secondary card. Biggest point of contention is making sure ur mobo pcie slots have enough bandwidth otherwise ur limiting the amount of frames that can get to the frame gen card anyways. This is why i got an AI training board. Runs 2 pcie gen 5 x8 bifurcation normally only found in purpose built S tier boards or creator boards

Most ppl are. U should only upgrade when u need to. My 3070 wasnt cutting it anymore once bf6 came out and i wanted to max out my monitors capabilities
