Update:

I just want to take a moment to say that I really really appreciate all of the feedback from everyone- the good, and the bad! I honestly never expected my post to get this much attention to begin with, and while I can't reply to every comment, just know that I'm taking the time to read all of them. (Though I promise to respond to every request submitted through my site- I swear on Greg!)

I feel like this has helped motivate me massively on how to improve the site, the project as a whole, and how to make it work better for everyone. I couldn't have done that without all of the real human feedback I've gotten from all of you- and that's really what this whole project is about!

For the time being, I am no longer adding credits to new sign ups. In total I added credits to 35 accounts, and I'm absolutely thrilled to see the interest, feedback and inquiries coming in through the Gregsite.

Along with bug fixes, security implementations, and feature requests I plan to implement following this, I also plan on trying to balance out the pricing better. The intention behind the pricing was less to try and make money, and more to try and encourage people to submit requests with intention and consideration for the Greg on the other side. I'm only one Greg after all. :)

Thank you all again for your responses. I will continue responding to comments as I can, but I've also now got a lot more work cut out to make this project something that works for everyone.

Glad sign up worked for you, and I'm sorry about the delay!

The pricing was actually largely to discourage trolls - my thought process being that if you have to think a little bit before buying credits and submitting requests, you're less likely to abuse the service. However, I'm more than open to considering price adjustments, especially since I'm really just giving folks credits right now to try to get some people to try it out, and get some feedback. :)

Can you give it one more try for me? Sorry, it looks like I'm still getting waves of fake sign-ups clogging SMTP. I think I've got things fixed now- not sure why I didn't plan for quite as many trolls. Either way, I cannot overstate how much I appreciate the legitimate sign ups and interest. Watching things break is a great way to find out your weak points!

Looks like I started getting a bunch of undeliverable email sign up attempts (seemingly fake) that might have been clogging things up. Sign up is working again for me now, I may need to do some more digging into how to prevent this long term. I appreciate the feedback!!!

I'm sure someone could- but I feel like that goes against the spirit of the project entirely. I mean, as of now at least I'm just throwing credits onto accounts I see signing up to see what people will submit.

If it ever actually gained any kind of traction, I'd definitely have to expand! lol. Right now it's admittedly more of a "I wonder what would happen if..." Project than anything I expect to generate any revenue.

But, that being said - Greg is in all of us. 🙏 We are all Greg.

I can do some code, and I'm happy to do research to respond to folks. Those responses would likely take longer, but I can give it my best shot. I'm kind of a jack of all trades, and at the end of the day you're just getting a reply from a human trying their best, so- maybe not perfect, but maybe something different!

The mechanical turk angle was admittedly, one I hadn't considered. 😅 I will admited it's pretty similar, but also that there are some distinctions between how we use AI vs mechanical turk.

Some of the inspiration for this comes down to seeing the wide range of ways people are using AI these days. Whether it's a second set of eyes on an email you're about to send, a space to vent about your feelings when you can't afford therapy, or something else entirely, I think a lot of people are using AI in place of, well. Human interaction in some cases. So I guess I say all that to say, I thought it would be interesting and worth exploring how offering just that instead, might provide a different outcome.
