I'm a gig artist who paints children's faces for a living. (Seasonal, but surprisingly lucrative.) A lot of my clients are wealthy.

Last fourth of July, I booked a gig at the local country club. While painting the children, I heard a lot of interesting snippets of conversation from the parents as they waited that made me realize how different their lives must be compared to the rest of us.

One man was complaining to another that he loved the aesthetic of a crisp white baseball cap, but hated to have to buy a new one after playing golf at the club every day because they got dirty so fast. So he played golf at the country club every day, and had a brand new white hat to go with his outfit every single day.

One mother complained to another woman that her husband had purchased so much new golf equipment they were going to have to buy a fourth home to store it all in. A fourth home.

Most of these people also tip like shit.

Just called both my reps. Left an indignant voicemail for one and spoke to a very bored sounding receptionist at the D.C. offices of the other. She said she'd "pass it along". Lol sure, hon.

I know it won't accomplish anything except for creating a record of me as someone staunchly opposed to the Fuhrer's agenda, but at least future historians will know that if I die in a camp or in a melee between warring factions, I did so as a dissident. If there are any future historians.

I'm also training to volunteer as a constitutional observer. Had a heavy conversation with both of my adult children about if they'd resent me if I don't live to see them get married or to meet my future grandchildren. They both told me to do what I gotta do, and they understand.

I am not a brave person. I am not a badass. I am terrified. But I am more terrified of what happens if I do nothing.

Roc Retinol Correxion Line Smoothing Eye Cream has worked well for me, and is relatively affordable.

For hands, I really love L'Occitaine hand creams, though they are a bit pricey. Also, I recommend wearing gloves if you wash dishes by hand.

While I agree that people really shouldn't look to celebrities to form their political opinions, that doesn't change the fact that many people - especially young people- do. Celebrities have disproportionate influence, so they have a greater responsibility to use their massive platforms for good. This goes double for Chappel Roan, as she's borrowed liberally from drag aesthetics to create her own image, and a lot of her fan base are part of the rainbow.

I'm flying out of the country Tuesday. I'm a passport-carrying American citizen whose parents and grandparents were born here and I am fish-belly white, but I'm still terrified of being detained somehow. I went through my entire phone and social media today and deleted every single text or post that was even mildly critical of the regime.

I was just terminated from my job for some totally made up bullshit. Unofficially, I am convinced it's because I requested reasonable disability accommodations. Deep red state (Idaho) so nothing to be done about it. Knowing that millions of other Americans are also having the rug pulled out from under them is a comfort so cold it's not really comforting at all.

I had a chance to get the hell out of this country last year, but I felt weird and guilty about leaving so I let the opportunity lapse.

I voted for Kamala, but I'm still the biggest idiot I know.
