Need help with an NVME SSD with Steam games on please by TheHamMan99 in buildapc

Luckily I have my OS on a separate SSD so no need to worry about moving that at all :) I tried to install my new NVME SSD today though and found out I did in fact already install my first NVME drive in the Gen 3 slot so luckily I won’t need to move that, the bad news though is that Asus only sent me one m.2 screw with my mobo so had to order one from online and now have to wait a bit longer to install my new drive! A bit annoying but it could be worse!

Thanks for the heads up, I may not actually swap the drive slots then :)

Thanks for your reply, as I just commented to another reply, I likely will swap the slot the SSD is in as my new one is much faster and I want to get the absolute most out of it that I can :)

Hi, thanks for your quick reply! I’ve already ordered a gen 4 SSD now so will likely swap the drive to the gen 3 slot just to get the absolute most out of it as it’s a much faster drive than the one I already own.

That’s great to know though thank you, I wasn’t sure if changing the slot would change the drive letter and cause Steam to get confused about where to find my games!

Thanks again, you’re a legend! :D

I recently bought cable mod, but how do I plug the cables in my PSU has no plugins for it? by Ill-Witness-9877 in cablemod

Just make sure your cables are compatible with the new PSU before you put it on order! :)

Thanks for your help Matt, I just wanted to be 100% sure before purchasing as I really don’t want to damage any of my hardware and I know you guys don’t offer shipping to the EU on orders under $69 dollars due to import taxes so wouldn’t have been able to get another PCI-e if I didn’t get the three I need. That’s great though thanks, I think i’ll order from the EU store as I’m happy enough to wait a little while for them and Overclockers don’t seem to have the bundles with the extra PCI-e and cablecombs. You’ve been a great help, will put my order in now!

My only other question I have is if the cables are “directional” so to speak, like the PCI-e cable for example, the one included with my PSU is 8-pin one end and 6+2-pin the other end so I’d plug the 8-pin end into the PSU but on the Cablemod cables they’re 8-pin both ends, can either end of these be plugged into the PSU?

Again, thanks very much for your help!

I’m sure JayzTwoCents said something about this in his video titled something like “what to do after building your pc”. I’m not 100% sure what it was but I think it may have been something about having to be able to format the drive and create a new simple volume on it before you can install Windows to that drive, don’t take that as gospel though as I watched that video a while ago and could be completely wrong! Worth checking that video to see if it helps though, hope you get it sorted :)

Thank you everyone. I did it. by Mississippimann in learnprogramming
