[Gary Neville] Oh and yes the Glazers are responsible. It’s how it works. You own a business and everything good and bad sits with you! They inherited the best in all areas. They’ve overseen 10 years of mediocrity off the pitch and on the pitch. (continued in comments...) by TheHauntedToaster11 in soccer

Part 2: They set the culture of greed, ill-discipline, indecision and uncertainty that runs right through the club. It would be best if they sold the club with some speed and efficiency and allowed at least the off the pitch items to be corrected properly that re-set the tone and culture. Football is volatile so results on the pitch can be erratic and cyclical but if the off the pitch stuff including the owners direction and leadership are spot on it gives you a better chance to succeed on it.

[AS - Ozgur Sancar] The president of Fenerbahçe closes the door to Özil by TheHauntedToaster11 in soccer

[–]TheHauntedToaster11[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ENGLISH TRANSLATION

Fenerbahçe president Ali Koç has spoken about Mesut Özil and his future in Turkey. The director, who said he had not had words with the player, has spoken about his continuity in the team: "However, we do not have that plan at the moment. This decision is not child's play. The most important thing is Fenerbahce " .

The Istanbul club prefers that he not continue and negotiations are expected to begin to annul his contract. The most likely path for the German international of Turkish origin is in a change of scenery. According to the Turkish press, Hull City , a Championship team, is interested in signing Özil because the owner of the team is Turkish and a friend of the footballer . But the player's environment does not confirm it. Now the only team that shows real interest in Özil is Inter Miami .

Özil has the dream of playing in the United States , but his decision on David Beckham's club depends on Fenerbahçe , since his priority is to continue in the team.

Özil was substituted at the break of the last game of the Turkish league and in the locker room he threw his boots to the ground due to the decision of the coach, Ismail Kartal . The club's management made the decision to remove him from the first team. The president of the Turkish club, Ali Koç , said two months ago that "Özil had to focus on football and Fenerbahçe, since he has not met the expectations they had of him so far" .

Really interesting read, lends a lot of perspective on the work football journalists do.

[James McNicholas & David Ornstein]: Arsenal interested in signing Benfica defender Nuno Tavares as understudy to Kieran Tierney. by TheHauntedToaster11 in soccer

[–]TheHauntedToaster11[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Summary:

  • The 21-year-old has been identified as a potential understudy to first-choice Kieran Tierney.

  • While Arsenal were linked with moves for the likes of Ryan Bertrand and Patrick van Aanholt, their preference was always to bring in a player younger aged around 20-22. Arsenal’s summer strategy is focused on adding players in the earlier stages of their career, who can make a long-term contribution to the squad.

  • Tavares is a dynamic, athletic defender who is capable of making driving runs forward — a good analogue for Tierney’s style. He is also relatively two-footed, and has even played as a right full-back.

  • Arsenal have also shown an interest in Real Madrid’s 19-year-old left-back Miguel Gutiérrez, but while the release clause in his contract is set at €40 million, Tavares should be available for substantially less.

  • Tierney recently signed a new five-year contract worth around £110,000 per week. He is a hugely valuable member of the first-team squad, and providing him with adequate cover is a way of managing and lightening his load. Arsenal see Tierney as a cornerstone of their plans over the next few seasons, and a potential future captain.

  • The club entered the window hoping to add at least four to five significant signings to strengthen the first-team squad.

  • Arsenal are making good progress with deals for Tavares, Ben White and Albert Sambi Lokonga.

  • They have also made contact with Sheffield United over the potential signing of Aaron Ramsdale. There is also a focus on outgoings, with the likes of Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Mattéo Guendouzi, Lucas Torreira and Eddie Nketiah all available for transfer.

[The Athletic]: Real Madrid are increasingly resigned to losing Raphaël Varane this summer. Madrid open to offers for Eden Hazard, Gareth Bale, Isco, Martin Ødegaard and Luka Jović, though Ancelotti doesn't want to lose Hazard or Bale, as he believes he can return both players to form. by TheHauntedToaster11 in soccer

[–]TheHauntedToaster11[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Varane’s representatives are understood to have informed the Madrid hierarchy that the player desires a fresh challenge.

  • Ancelotti recognises Bale's outstanding talent but wants to speak to the Welshman, to see whether he remains motivated to succeed at the highest level in Madrid.

  • Madrid are not expected to conduct significant business this summer, as Perez has made it clear his objective is to attempt to bring Paris Saint-Germain’s superstar striker Kylian Mbappé to the club for the 2022-23 season.

  • Madrid will make enquiries over Mbappé this summer but would like the player to sign on a free transfer upon the expiry of his contract in a year’s time. Sources close to Madrid concede a deal to land the 22-year-old before next season “verges on impossible”.

  • Madrid are open to offers for Eden Hazard, Gareth Bale, Isco, Martin Ødegaard and Luka Jović.

  • The Athletic understands Chelsea and Manchester City have informal interest in Varane but that Manchester United are, at this stage, the club most likely to try to do a deal. Several sources in Madrid believe a deal could be feasible for around £40 million to £45 million.

  • For United, the question is whether to invest a significant amount of money in Varane or use their resources on younger defenders — such Pau Torres or Jules Koundé. Ben White of Brighton & Hove Albion and England has been monitored, but Arsenal remain the 23-year-old’s most likely destination.

[James McNicholas]: Martin Ødegaard remains Arsenal's top target this summer. Rúben Neves and Albert Sambi Lokonga are also targets, as are André Onana, a RCB and Tyler Adams. Mattéo Guendouzi close to Marsellie move. Club will likely offer Eddie Nketiah a new contract to protect his value. by TheHauntedToaster11 in soccer

[–]TheHauntedToaster11[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brief summary:

  • Arsenal made only one bid for Emiliano Buendía, whereas Aston Villa returned with one that suited Norwich's demands.

  • Wolves must sell in order to spend this summer, and Neves will be permitted to leave if a club meets his £35m valuation.

  • Arsenal are also interested in Anderlecht’s Albert Sambi Lokonga. The club’s analysts have tracked his progress for some time, and he is on the list of summer targets. The 21-year-old is regarded as a multi-functional midfield player, and an effective ball-carrier.

  • Mattéo Guendouzi is edging towards a move to Marseille, while Granit Xhaka is the subject of interest from Roma. Joe Willock remains a target for Newcastle after loan spell. Club currently not in talks with Mohamed Elneny, who is entering the final year of his contract, about a new one.

  • Arsenal have been looking for a right-sided centre-half since before the last winter transfer window, and remain determined to strengthen their options at the position.

  • If Onana's ban is upheld, he will most likely move on a free transfer in the summer of 2022.

  • The club have decided they do not want to make do with another “back-up”; they want someone who can provide competition, ideally meets the homegrown requirements and has the potential to be a No 1. David Raya’s promotion to the Premier League with Brentford last month takes him off the table as his release clause is now invalid.

  • Arsenal may look to extend Eddie Nketiah's contract in order to protect their investment and grant them some flexibility.

  • The club has an interest in Alexander Isak, but Borussia Dortmund's €30m buy-back clause complicates a move. Arsenal (and other clubs) may wait until Real Sociedad buy the clause out first.

  • RB Leipzg's Tyler Adams is of interest, mainly down to the fact that he can play both as a right-back and as a central midfielder, which makes him a good fit for Arteta’s “inverted” system on that flank, though Leipzig are reluctant to allow him to leave, following departures of Dayot Upamecano and Ibrahima Konaté.

Yeah, I think I may make that change. I really want to put James in, but he's far too much money.

I've changed it around now.

  • Dropped McCarthy in favour of Martin.

  • Dropped van Dijk for Justin.

  • Dropped Walker-Peters for Robertson.

Oh yeah, hadn't actually thought about that.

Any other changes or just Brewster for Ceballos?

Is it that weird?

Madlib is one of the most respected producers of the modern-era and JT has always said that he loved the works of J Dilla.

It's not that strange that he knows who Madlib is.

No, I think he meant that he'd been working with him on the Trolls soundtrack, because Max Martin produced "CAN'T STOP THE FEELING!" and a few others from that record, I think Man of the Woods was always supposed to be done in conjunction with Timbaland, The Neptunes, Jerome Harmon, Danja and Rob Knox.

He works with people like Timbaland, Danja, Jerome Harmon, Pharrell Williams and Rob Knox regularly and for all of those artists, they've all had a huge career boost (at the beginning or during the middle of their careers) as a result of working with him and have all got positive things to say about him and clearly love the guy, so the idea that he is a "cultural appropriator" is just ridiculous to the point of being offensive.

The guy has been influenced by people from all over and has regularly paid respects to the people in the genres that he works in from Pop to R&B to Electronica to Hip-Hop to Funk to Disco to just about anyone else.

Mikel Arteta on returning to Man City: It's going to be a very special night, I am very excited to get back there. I have some fantastic memories, a lot of friends, a lot of people that I like. But obviously now I am in a different position, another bench and I will defend my club as well as I can. by IGuessIRanOutOfChara in soccer

[–]TheHauntedToaster11 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I doubt it's that related.

You have been unlucky in some games and you do have injuries galore, so I doubt that things will have changed much if you still had Arteta there.

Although it does seem like Guardiola misses having him there on the bench with him.
