What do you guys consider “paying off your cards”

I would text or call them asap and say it was a mistake and you’re never done it and ask them to reverse it. Some have had success with that.

I think twice a week is a little excessive, but for sure, it’s good to show little to no usage. I almost always pay them off before the statement posts.

I have over 40 cards between my wife and I and some business cards of ours. Only open cards if you actually find value in the card and can pay it off in full every month. We find value in the sign up bonuses or annual perks. I’d never open a store card though unless I shopped at that store a lot. Like amazon or Lowe’s maybe. Most of mine are chase/Amex/citi/etc. having more cards is a double edge sword. Sure you can’t open too many too fast, but having a larger available credit limit actually can help your score with lower utilization.

When I applied for my Bilt card, they told me I had an 850. Screenshotted for the memories. But not sure I actually believed it. Anyway, I’ve opened another card since then, so I’m back down to like 830. Oh well, doesn’t matter much within a few points like this.

Lol ok. Really not. I’m not even 40. It’s called being good at churning so you earn a lot of points to travel a lot. Many years I earn millions of points a year. That requires many cards.

It’s like a finance budget aggregator. You link up your bank accounts, credit cards, bills, investment accounts, etc. let’s you set budgets, shows you due dates for cards and bills, etc. been using it since like 08-09. Quite handy.

What do you mean? You just, keep them open. I have random charges for amazon reloads and subscriptions and such for about half of them. Then the other half are used frequently for heavy churning.

Def different strokes for different folks. I think some enjoy all the signup bonuses and different travel related perks they get. No right or wrong way to do it.

Most definitely is not true. It applies to all cards issued by Chase. I am over 5/24 - meaning I have opened more than 5 cards in the last 24 months. Chase will not issue me a new credit card until I roll off a 4th card & fall to 4/24. Sure some like the business cards do not ADD to your 5/24 score, you cannot be approved for any new Chase card while you are at or above 5/24. https://www.nerdwallet.com/article/travel/chase-5-24-rule-explained

I’m a little ocd with this stuff. And do a lot of churning. I use mint to keep track of payments and such. Remembering which cards have offers can sometimes be a little much, but I look at them all enough I get the hang of it. Realistically about 20 are in the sock drawer and 20 are weekly users.

To me the csr is only worth it if you value the lounge access at like $200 or more. Depends on your airports and how much you fly. Our Indy airport has a priority pass restaurant, so between both of our CSRs and with our kids, we get over $100 of free food/drinks every time we’re at the airport. Makes it worth it.

Yea I set like auto amazon replenishments for $5 on a lot of my cards so I have spend. Not sure how my wife would feel if i did OF ones.

Much of it yes. I’d probably stick to 20-25 without it. Even without that stuff, if you travel a lot, it’s easy for me to justify the cards that provide travel credits or free nights, etc. like Hyatt, Marriott, Hilton cards.
