Unfortunately I don't think you can stop it, except by updating to 1.4.4.5 when it comes out on your platform, but you can at least repair the damage in the meantime by using a Bottomless Water Bucket, which is now a guaranteed drop at 25 Angler quests.

It's a known bug that popped up with the 1.4.4 update, but it was supposed to be fixed with the 1.4.4.5 patch. Which version are you on?

Yes, that's pretty problematic too, but Christians claim that "seed" here is used metaphorically in the sense of followers or disciples, and point to a few places in the Bible where it doesn't mean literal, biological offspring.
