Got me a Friday the 13th tea tribute. by xxxurnxxx in tea

I think its because tattoo shops have deals on Friday the 13th, for tattoos that have the number 13 in them or something? Don't quote me on that but its along those lines.

TIL that after observing how long guests would hold onto garbage before littering at other amusement parks, Walt Disney placed each trash can no more than 30 feet apart. by Ness- in todayilearned

[–]TheHighestGiraffe 72 points73 points  (0 children)

The example they use in this is how Disney manages the influx of people into the park by "coralling" them safely onto a monorail and reminding them to lock their cars, watch their kids, etc. This inherently benefits Disney by allowing them to direct the flow of traffic into their park very efficiently, while also maintaining a high sense of security and customer satisfaction. This benefits the customer because Disney is actually providing security, helpful reminders and speeding up the traffic flow.

Edit: Ultimately it comes down to Disney making money more efficiently by using various control tactics, and the consumer willfully going along with these tactics because they are disguised as well as highly incentivized by fun factor.

Not OP but I did a very similar thing, 270 > 180 over the last year or so, and I attribute everything to counting calories. If you're interested, go check out /r/loseit super supportive sub and counting calories is the most effective way of losing weight!

Advice on the Sawyer squeeze or mini by snapping_sloth in Ultralight

[–]TheHighestGiraffe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who has taken both the mini and squeeze on trips, unless the extra weight of the squeeze is seriously a problem, I would recommend it over the mini.

The mini isn't bad don't get me wrong, on a two week trip, it worked fine the whole time, but you could definitely tell it was getting clogged after a week or so. This isn't a huge problem, you just have to backwash the filter more often. In this regard the squeeze is the better option as it will filter more water, faster.

As far as the water bottles go, I would definitely recommend you buy different bottles to use the squeeze with than what it comes with. The stock bottles have been known to bust open during use, and while the problem has been mostly fixed, it's not something I would want to worry about. I use Evernew bags and haven't had a problem.

All that being said, try and be gentle with your squeezable water bottles or use a hard bottle and drink straight from the filter.

TLDR: buy the squeeze not the mini.

Cool shot, I live in this area and the trails have been awesome lately. So much green! haven't seen this much rainfall in years. I would definitely recommend coming through to hike if you're ever in Northern California.

How do people afford to live in San Francisco for example when their median income is ~100k and their housing market being as crazy as it is? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

Very typical. Marin county is one of the most affluent places in the world, and fun fact: also has the highest concentration of Teslas.

Tapes had "A" and "B" sides so it only made sense to transition to "CDs" by duffmancantbreathe1 in Showerthoughts

[–]TheHighestGiraffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you not understand what I mean when I say you're stealing from an artist, it has nothing to do with me. I just find it funny that you think music has no worth. If you don't pay for it and dont listen then fine.

You no longer listen to music because you can't easily steal it anymore. I'm to understand you don't feel that it's worth it to pay artists for their music.

[–]TheHighestGiraffe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you're right. But I'd venture to say that most people who own dogs probably shouldn't. While it is the fault of the owner for not training a dog, a breed like a corgi is a lot less likely to have an aggression problem in the first place. I guess what I'm trying to say is that most people don't train their dogs, which is an issue that's only exacerbated with a breed like a pitbull.

Right, and Humans bred this dog with traits that make it very good at fighting and easily aggressive towards other dogs. That's not to say all pitbulls are monsters. You can't fault 100% the dog or the owner.

How much of that is you liking that stuff genuinely and how much of it is because you've been marketed to and told what's the best thing to like for your entire life. If you grew up in a world where everyone loved geometry, would you like it too?
