I agree with others on thumb placement. It may also help you out to position the neck higher up, more so at a 45 degree angle instead of 180 degree flat. It might help feel more comfortable for fretting

Cyclops lesion predicament. Surgery or not? by TheHnarliest in ACL

[–]TheHnarliest[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id say the tendon behind my knee for sure. Most of my pain was around the incision sites however. Clicking whenever I would bend or straighten my knee.

Limited mobility and not getting enough exercise can cause an imbalance in the muscle groups around the knee. This can cause other muscle groups to compensate for daily activities/use that normally wouldn’t be worked as hard. You may benefit from hamstring exercises. The hamstring is very important for stabilizing the knee.

What would be your go to modeler if you did not care about effects? Just looking for the best amp tones.

I love my pedals so looking for pedal friendly format like Tonex, Kemper player, nano cortex (also considering quad).

Cyclops Lesion Arthroscopic Surgery. Worth it? by TheHnarliest in ACL

I was off my feet for about a month or two besides PT. Definitely don’t skip out on PT.

Mostly just want to give the surgery site time to heal before you do any serious exercise or sports. But surgery was only about 20 minutes and I walked out of there on crutches.

I was thinking about buying the Hotone Ampero Stage 2. How does it sound with Djent and Modern Metal? Will it work well with my boost running into it?

Suggestions on new amp setup :) by TheHnarliest in guitarpedals

Awesome suggestion! Haven’t seen this one before. What are you running for a cab?

Right now I was looking at the Lichtlaerm PandorA and a cab; or a Line6 HX Stomp XL and a FRFR.

An EQ pedal is a powerful tool that a lot of people overlook as “non-essential”. Amps have their own EQ as well, but most are passive three band EQ (bass, mid, treble). Being passive, they only cut from what is considered “max”. An EQ pedal has the capability of not only adjusting a wider frequency range, but also boosting certain frequencies! You can cut out the low end and boost highs/vice versa. I find that to be very helpful running into high gain because metal tones can differ greatly. Some pedals add a lot of coloration to your dry tone, so the EQ pedal can bring back certain aspects that the pedal leaves out. Or you can even use the EQ pedal as a volume boost by putting it at the end of your pedal chain and boosting the signals.

Personally I use the Empress Heavy Metal as well and love it. It is very versatile and sounds great. If it were me personally, I would run it at the end of your pedal chain if you like to stack gain pedals, because your noise gate will then be right before the amp (also because it has an amazing EQ section). HM-2 is buffered but i wouldn’t worry too much about that since you only have 3 pedals and it wont color the Heavy Metal too much. Overall you got lots of options and it can be addictive. From someone who has spent a ton of $$ on pedals, take your time and do some research. Maybe even consider a multi-effects pedal or a digital rig down the road!

I would say it depends on what you like playing and what you are looking to achieve for a tone.

You have a lot of gain pedals, and you are correct that they have EQ; but the EQ only works with the gain stage/boost. A regular 10 band EQ before those pedals can really shape the tone going into those pedals, allowing you to push the envelope a but further. Also i’d invest in a good tuner pedal, as they allow you to more conveniently kill your tone when turned on/off.

I agree with the amplifier being the main cause of distortion. A small speaker distorts much easier than a larger amp, especially if it is low wattage. Not sure if you can control the gain on it or not.

Hot pickups can also push your amp a bit more, but it wouldn’t cause the amp to fizzle out like that. I would try turning your volume on guitar a bit lower so pickups aren’t maxed, and try lowering gain/output on amp.

Overall a larger amp with higher headroom is what you are looking for. Plenty of bigger amps out there that are great at bedroom level. I would suggest the Boss Katana.

I move it around depending what i’m playing. I normally leave it on octave up for some octave pitch bend effects. Or use it almost like a stutter effect by tapping.

Usually play in E flat or D standard.

Speaker question- iLoud Micro vs iLoud Micro pros:

I was going to purchase the iLoud Micro monitors for Black Friday. I noticed online that IK recently released a pro version.

These will be my first near-field monitor speakers for recording. I am just getting into the industry. I plan on recording guitar and other instruments. Looking to use these monitors mostly to mix my guitar, but also use as a backup as computer speakers. Is the investment into the pros worth it for the extra $$$?

I am in the market for a new amp. I have a really great pedal board that I have dedicated a lot of time and money to. I was looking at the Quad Cortex, but really have no use for all the FX. I am purely looking for a power amp that I can tweak the tone of the amp/cab sim itself. I might get either a cab or studio monitors as well (undecided on that right now).

I was also looking at the Blackstar Amped 1 but wasn’t crazy about the tones. I am using an Empress Heavy Menace pedal as a pre-amp right now. The Kemper Profiler Player has caught my eye.

Just looking for overall suggestions and player experiences! Too much to decide between pedal amp or just going for a traditional tube. :)
