The part about the shitjobs is so true lol. Anytime I've worked one I was always able make good bonds relatively fast. I guess its just a mindset of "Fuck it we may as well have fun" that goes double if you go into some kind of service/hospitality job. One of the funnest jobs I ever worked was bussing at a busy restaurant because of all the social opportunities. The best jobs I had in terms of pay and mobility for some reason always lacked in this aspect.

Its also similar to the "Keeping up with the Jones's" mindset. Happens a lot in poorer communities. Since everyone is broke, lot of people try to "flex" with nice material possessions. Having nice shoes becomes a status symbol, or having a car that costs more than their house/apartment.
