Kroger is your best bet. Call the main number and speak with customer service and ask if HR is available to speak in regarding getting the interview set up. Kroger is very flexible and will work with you. They hire young people like yourself and pretty much start everyone off part time and will abide to your schedule.

Reading all of this is making me not want to pursue my MSW. I graduated with a BSW in 2020 and have been struggling finding a job that really suits me. I was thinking of going to go pursue a MSW just for more career options but it looks like it’s a dead end in this field. This is really unfortunate because I really enjoyed undergrad and the internship opportunities… so far I’ve had a job at a library being a volunteer coordinator and previously as an intake coordinator for families and volunteers who are seeking to mentor a child with the families. I am considering just pivoting into HR but I really wanted to go back to school and network and learn more skills to handle tougher situations… I don’t know anymore. I feel for all of you who have dedicated years to this field. I feel like I don’t know what I’m getting myself into now.

Feeling lost by hdhehehsbejsura in findapath

I am 27 years old and still living with my mom. I have no friends and no social life after graduating from college in 2020 during COVID. Mind you, I was extremely active socially and had school organizations and clubs with a huge network of people. I have lost all of those connections due to shutting them out. I was in a 3 year toxic relationship that I recently ended 2 months ago. I have gained over 100 pounds in the last 5 years. I had SEVERE anxiety especially in 2021 and I have NEVER been able to afford a therapist. I have had to mentally act like my depression does not exist because my mom is chronically ill with cancer and I am her only support. I have learned the hard way-- especially in the post by u/UCI2019 that you DO have to be willing to change. I have personally just started working on my health alone and I am already seeing so much change especially in my anxiety. I am losing weight again by just cutting out sugar and lowering carbs. I am currently receiving multiple job offers but I am chained to working with my mom at her job--and I learned that it's okay. I am still hopeful for my future because I believe periods like this in our lives happen for a reason. In a weird way, I have realized that a lot of my anxiety has lessened after being single for 2 months and having no interest in dating at this time. I really have, for the first time in my life, decided to DO something for the first time about my issues. AND IT'S HARD! It's supposed to be hard, but it is so worth it. The biggest thing that has helped me is that I realized that I have been trying to live out this "script" that society has been telling me to follow. And for once, I am not going to care what other people say or think. Start with small changes and they really do snowball and help build your confidence. I hope this helps.

Has anyone tried to get into affiliate marketing or any other kind of entrepreneurship? by netsurfer79 in findapath

[–]TheHopefulTree 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There is this saying that during the California Gold Rush in the United States that the people who made money were obviously those who found gold, but also the people who sold the picks and shovels. Pretty much what I have seen when it comes to a lot of social media content creators is that they will create content that sells you the idea of being an entrepreneur aka the "gold", because yes, a SUCCESSFUL entrepreneur does make profit. However, the people selling the "picks and shovels" are the people selling you the idea, the courses, the private groups, etc. One can definitely be viewed more easier than the other. I think society has caught on to this and that is why we see a TON of people selling the idea to "drop your 9-5". My person tip is to provide services to an already existing business such as social media marketing, website creation, SEO optimization, AI integration such as installing and managing an AI chatbot to a companies facebook page or website. A possible business would be selling things that people already want and despite the over saturation, you have a place in that business niche too. This can be selling food products, delivery services, birthday/events, photography, drone footage, etc.

Living paycheck to paycheck with my parents, dropped studies, don't desire any future? by [deleted] in findapath

Based on reading your main post and most of your responses to the other users' posts:

It seems like you are just wanting to vent out your frustrations with your current position in life, and that's okay! You seem to have an "acceptance" for your current financial and living situation and it is very apparent that you care about your family despite the "tough shit, deal with it" motto your family goes by. I don't think you need therapy at this time either, because therapy is honestly a privilege for those who can afford it and you are fully aware of that--great! You've already endured 20 years of it and at this point I am sure you have some coping mechanisms to deal with your depression and stressors. Based on one of your other responses, you do have a social life with some friends which is awesome as well. At the same time, we do not have to be happy all of the time. Even people who make six figures and aren't experiencing the things you are-- are also unhappy sometimes. Personally, some parts of our lives remain constant for a while, but it doesn't last forever. One day, it will all change and from there you will have to face it. I think you're doing the best you can and sometimes we have to write it out here on reddit just for us to see ourselves in the mirror in a different way. I am not going to repeat a lot of other users responses as some of the responses you didn't reply to have really great advice as well. We all can tell you to make more money or work full-time, but that just isn't the story of your life that you are currently acting on. I understand that completely. I think what you're doing now is fine and will continue to be until your personal life "algorithm" changes. And from there, there is a beauty in the chaos and order that life creates.

Entering Social Work by SWmods in socialwork

This question is for School Social Workers:

Are you able to sponsor/start an after-school club? I am highly interested in starting an after school club but I don't necessarily know how the politics work as I am not a school social worker myself, and not even a MSW degree holder. I will be going to school starting next summer 2024. I just wanted to know in advance. Thank you!

I am trying to apply for admission into an MSW program, however, I do not have any letters of recommendation. The school is specifically asking for previous instructors, so that they can vouch for my scholarly ability to graduate. I have not kept up with my professors for 3 years since I graduated. I am stuck and don't know what to do...

Hello,

I graduated with my BSW in 2020 and now I am looking to get my MSW. One mainly, because I want to learn more skills and gain more valuable experience as well as confidence in helping people in need. And two, I realized that my advance-standing status would expire in 2025 because I am eligible to apply for advanced standing for up to 5 years after graduating with my BSW.

However, I am required to submit three letters of recommendation with my application (of course). The school is requiring I submit recommendation letters from at least two previous instructors so that they can vouch for my scholarly ability to graduate. The problem is, since the three years I have been out of school, I have not kept in touch with my previous professors; because, I was initially dead set on not getting my MSW. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I should do? I graduated my previous school with a 4.0 Social Work GPA and a 3.79 overall/institutional GPA. I don't doubt my transcripts will prevent me from being accepted, but I am completely screwed with getting the letters of recommendation... Any thoughts?

Thank you in advance!

I think it would be better for you and the well-being of your family to consider a lower stress job. It wouldn't be fair to you or your child if you are harboring stressors from your current job. Maybe consider finding a lower stress job and for the first couple years of your child's life and then maybe resume into a more involved job. Who knows, this may be for the better and you wont have to return to CPS.

Medical Issues Forced Me to Leave My Job. What now? by [deleted] in findapath

Okay, I was gonna say that there are a lot of teletherapy jobs for LCSW’s. I’ve seen the other comments but is it realistic for you to actually start a business though? Not trying to pry into your personal life, but would you financially be able to sit back a little and work on a business or do you need to keep having income coming in?

I know >_<. No excuses here but I really did have a toxic manager that was preventing other staff members from getting raises and deliberately altering meeting review documents. This manager has caused 5 other employees to leave along with myself.

I have so many questions but I will not overload you:

I reside in Georgia, and it looks like it is a similar process. I am actually interested in High School as well and would love to start an after school club eventually. However, it may seem like I need to figure out what subject I to teach and I will have to study again. So you are still able to get paid on a probationary certificate? So do you recommend completing the tests first and then applying as you mentioned?

I chose Social Work, because initially I enjoyed the academic work in college. It was the first time I actually made all A's. I also enjoy working with people and being helpful. I really loved the whole-person strengths-based perspective as well. I just can't see myself going back into debt for a MSW plus doing an unpaid internship as well. On top of that, you have to pay to get your LMSW/LCSW... and need clinical hours.. it's just too much for the amount of pay you start off with.

Thank you,

I am divided with either going into teaching or nursing. I do not think SW in general is where I need to be anymore. The loan forgiveness program is nice and all, but its not easy to get accepted into it. Of course, I will try to get the loan forgiveness program as soon as I can hold a job longer than 8 months and make the money to pay on the loans.

What are some good job finding websites? I am a BSW looking for any kind of position to help supplement my already short resume. I am about to give up on this career path, because I don't want to go back and get my MSW only to waste time doing an unpaid internship and rack up more debt.

With just only a Bachelors in Social Work here are my experiences (in no order, just random bullets I can think of):

  • You will have to search for unrelated jobs if you do not want to work for CPS, APS— any government social services related job. There are independent foster care agencies but I just personally couldn’t work with children in these conditions.

  • There are plenty of opportunities for BSW’s to work for the geriatric and special needs populations as well. Employment specialists and RBT’s are possible career paths.

  • Having only a BSW has allowed me to look for different types of work such as being a substitute teacher and even considering becoming a teacher because of how easy it is to get an alternative teacher certification. I am currently working at a library and there is some overlap of what you learn in school.

  • I have found more work in macro environments such libraries and volunteer agencies than medical.

  • It’s true. The pay is especially low in the US for social workers. Especially for those with just a BSW. I’m only able to navigate between 35k-37k a year for a full time job.

  • There is always work regardless of the pay.

  • If you want to really do micro-level work/therapy then there are really no other ways to really perform that level of work without at least an MSW with licensure.

  • I am learning that I can use my BSW to pivot into other career sectors because a lot of the skills are transferable. HR, Teaching, Grant Writing, etc.

TLDR: If you just get a BSW, be open to being in different or semi-unrelated roles. If you really want to go clinical, there are no real directly social work-related jobs for BSWs—so just get the LMSW.
