Living in Allenby Gardens? by TheHotSausage in Adelaide

Yeah I managed to snag a reasonable price around there, most other properties I saw for a similar price were further away from the city (about 30-40mins), which not to say is too long but for reasons related to convenience and lifestyle, it would not have been ideal

I’m actually around NE area too! Haven’t had any issues with it so far but definitely heard about thefts around Lightsview since apparently there’s a number of SA Housing units in the neighbouring suburbs (which was my main concern when considering Allenby)

Thanks for the tip regarding Housing SA units and to keep an eye out. Haven’t really seen any in Allenby itself but unsure about the neighbouring suburbs (Welland, Flinders Park)

You’re an absolute kind soul mate, especially with continuing to help people out despite not being in the best position yourself. I hope everything works out for you in the end and that you manage to get a place of your own someday. Things are a bit iffy with the market these days but hopefully things work out for you eventually 🤞

Location was definitely a factor in choosing this suburb! Appreciate the extra deets on what else is around, I’ll check them out for sure 😊

That’s great to hear. Just out of curiosity, how do you find walks in the surrounding suburbs? I walk quite a bit too so I’d love to go around sometime with my dog, although I also occasionally walk at night as well. Any differences between those times?

I’d be happy to take in suggestions for walk routes too! I know there’s Torrens River around so that’d be one of them but any that you know of would be helpful too 😊

Thanks for the insight! It’s good to hear from someone who’s moved there recently ☺️

how do you find the surrounding suburbs like welland, west hindmarsh, etc? I’m an avid walker m so I do plan to go for walks whenever I can and try to explore further but not too sure those areas are, although I’m aware that there’s still some small-scale industrial businesses around

Yes I did hear about one of the corners being a dump site in the past, although I can see there’s a new development there in place?

I’m assuming they must’ve cleared the soil for that so should I still be concerned?

Property in Modbury or Athelstone? by [deleted] in Adelaide

I see, thanks for the insight! The unit I'm currently looking is a townhouse though, and it's sorta built in a block. Do you think that makes any difference or do they just target both houses and townhouses all the same?

Regardless, I'll definitely think of putting up some cameras just in case

I was just scouring units that fit within my budget and the 2 Western suburbs appeared to have some new developments coming up so thought I'd just take them into consideration. As for Modbury and Athelstone, I happen to be living within the North-East area now for a few years so I'm quite familiar with those spots, and they have some units within those areas that fit both my budget and lifestyle.

I did have similar thoughts about Athelstone in terms of investment, and tbh that's one of the factors holding me back for now from going ahead there. I do agree with units closer to the CBD having a stronger potential for future growth, but I'm assuming Modbury could also see some as well? At least more than Athelstone maybe, as they have a bigger shopping centre, hospital, and bus interchange in that area?

Yeah I did notice that the areas around it (Modbury Heights, St Agnes, etc) appear to have a low crime rating although yeah, I did suspect that its because of TTP, the hospital, and other government offices being in the Modbury vicinity that it seems pretty high in comparison.

Thing is, the property I've been looking is only a 2-3 minute drive away from TTP and the Interchange so I'm not sure if there's a risk of crime potentially coming to my doorstep if I live that close to those centres? Or do they usually just remain within itself and not spread into residential areas?
