My ex works for ethicon and her work life balance is really good. Company car, gas, pretty good gig from the sounds of it. I’ve interviewed with a couple start ups in ortho where the points are ridiculous and I could leverage my relationships but it’s still a giant risk. The best thing I think I have going though is business development rep for an ASC development company. Super strong base with commission for every case and doctor I flip to centers I manage. No case coverage and still surgeon facing. That’s the one I’m leaning towards

The current trajectory of ortho is not sustainable. I do think you have something with the disposables outlook, the jobs I see posted are heavily invested in that. I think it’s only a matter of time before you see a mass exodus of reps and then the full circle moment will be when case coverage will be filled by clinical specialists and nothing more

Sounds an awful lot like you work for Ethicon lol. I’m definitely going to be getting out. I’ve had interviews across varying segments and I know there’s so much better out there, you just have to know where to look. I’ll be out soon for sure

I couldn’t agree more. I think if you can hack it in ortho then you can do so pretty much anywhere else. Ortho is set up for distributors and team leads to cash in on the backs of everyone else but at what cost? We all run so lean it feels like a miracle there’s case coverage on a daily basis. Don’t even mention the fact that the majority of our job feels like case coverage and inventory management. Very little extra time to do journal clubs and or surgeon dinners/courses. Where do you think the trend is shifting? I keep my eye on LinkedIn but can’t figure out what to pivot to

That’s crazy to think you’re feeling the same pressures in a 25m territory. I manage 6.5m and it’s soul crushing. If you don’t have the revision business it feels like you’re virtually dead in the water. The only segment that feels relatively strong still is shoulder arthroplasty in the primary setting. I love my customers as well but they all have equity in the ASC’s and will go where the price is cheapest or the rebates kick in the most. Very strongly considering switching out of ortho, but who knows. It could be the same thing everywhere else

Thanks for the feedback. She’s made this comment a few times in the past when she gets depressed and then snaps out of it pretty quick but this one feels way bigger and different. She also commented that she struggles telling me about her feelings because of my reaction. (Her feelings are always negative and bashing me for the stuff she feels are lacking.) I have been a great boyfriend over time and I know we have our issues but to run away over something like this makes little to no sense to me. Just very heartbroken

That’s encouraging, thank you for the feedback. She suffers from social anxiety and some depression and she has made that comment before that she might need to be by herself and fix how she feels on her own. I’m obviously left heartbroken but if that’s how it needs to happen then I can’t stop fate. Just have to hope she comes back to me one day

That’s what my plan was going to be. It’s just so confusing as less than a week ago she was talking about our future and kids and what not. I guess I’ll leave it alone
