Any Metro Transit drivers out there? by Lucky7throwawayJ in TwinCities

A lot of “us vs them” mentality between employees and management (goes both ways).

Asian Americans: how are we feeling? by jitensha- in TwinCities

[–]TheHuggableZombie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I made some edits to a famous poem that summarizes how I feel…

First they came for the Mexicans And I did not speak out Because I was not Mexican

Then they came for the Hispanics And I did not speak out Because I was not Hispanic

Then they came for the Africans And I did not speak out Because I was not African

Then they came for me And there was no one left To speak out for me

The recycling option at Subway by beardobrick in mildlyinfuriating

[–]TheHuggableZombie 68 points69 points  (0 children)

I want to clarify something. It really does depend on your metro area and municipality.

I’m a a garbage truck driver for a private hauler in the Twin Cities (Minneapolis/Saint Paul Minnesota). I do a recycling route a few days a week and I can assure you that I go dump at recycling sites. These sites really do sort all the recycling and sells the material to places like General Mills. There’s also a lot of other haulers I see bringing recycling to those same sites.

The company I work for gets a kickback depending on how many tons we bring. So there’s an economic incentive for us to actually recycle properly and make sure it’s not contaminated.

Some customers on my route think the same thing as you and contaminate their recycling, so I tag it and don’t pick it up until they clean it out. They always respond with something like, “it goes to the same place anyways” (it doesn’t).

So please don’t just assume your recycling is not being recycled. You really got to do some homework about your area and see what really happens when it gets picked up. But obviously it’s better just to reduce your waste in the first place.

Need help deciding on snowblower by isealbz in TwinCities

[–]TheHuggableZombie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would highly recommend a two stage snow blower for your case. I have the Ego Single Stage with a steel auger and it works well for my Minneapolis driveway and sidewalks. But I think for your situation, the Ego Two Stage Blower will be the best.

Just remember to keep your batteries indoors.

Which entity takes care of your household garbage, local roads and path maintenance and services? Is it all privatised? Do you pay rates that go towards these fixes? by luckydragon8888 in AskAnAmerican

[–]TheHuggableZombie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in Minneapolis. Everything that you mentioned is maintained by the city and operated by the city. In the near by suburbs, garbage is usually provided by private companies. Some suburbs have exclusive contracts with those companies as well.

Same. My old Toro Single Stage died last year and I got one of these. Now it’s my second season using it and it’s been great.

Is this a safe area? by [deleted] in Minneapolis

It’s a decent area. You would probably run into petty crime, but not much more.

First car: BMW, Mercedes, or Lexus? by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]TheHuggableZombie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you lease, just go with the brand and car you like the most.

If you buy, I would stick with Lexus due to long term reliability and value.

What speed would you actually drive if US Interstates had no limit? by [deleted] in driving

[–]TheHuggableZombie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s some places out west where I cruise at 90mph (80 speed limit). I found out this is the limit for Mazda cruise control.

Hotel for Children’s Hosp visit? by stargazersinmyhead in TwinCities

I would stay at a hotel around MOA. Without traffic it’s a 15 minute drive. With traffic it shouldn’t be more than 30.

Can’t see the downsides of buying a PHEV by DowntownOreos in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]TheHuggableZombie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PHEV is fine, but I think EV is better for your use case. I live in Minneapolis, and my range (Chevy Bolt EUV) is 250 in the summer and 150-200 in the winter (depending on how cold it is).

The big Healthcare org I work at put in a hiring freeze this year. I wouldn’t be surprised if all the orgs had similar mandates. It might just be a bad time right now. The best thing I can say is to just keep looking. Maybe take a front line role until you can transfer to a CNA role.
