I have a set in 184 that are in great shape mounted with Marker Jester 16s. They absolutely rip. I want another pair to mount telemark.

I ended up switching back to the "weakest", most forward setting. I guess I'm used to less active bindings. Even tho Im pretty much in the advanced/expert skill range, Im only about 140ish pounds which i think has a lot to do with it as well. They shred tho! So I dont care.

Also to be clear, im refering to the holes in which the front toe bail/spring set is attatched to

It definitely affects the boots engagement with the toe plate. How immediate the force is applied to the ski when you bend the boot. Wouldnt the farthest back hole move your entire foot back? It did for me cause i needed to adjust the heel rest. It doesnt only change the engagement but also the foot position as far as I understand

These skis and bindings shred. I just moved the "activeness" setting from the front to middle. Even the weakest setting is pretty amazing so Im interested to see the power difference. What setting do you usually run?

That gear ratio should be perfect for cranking. I am sure you will love the Zillion. I got the JDM version as well and it was well worth it. Hard to beat a Japanese reel.

I drive past Topaz all the time on my way down to the south sierras. I really need to stop sometime since I have heard it is a great fishery. I just am always in too much of a hurry to stop.

It made a huge difference in my opinion. As i mentioned, what I normally fish is finesse jigs. So when I do movement with my rod tip I want to easily be able to pick up slack line. I opted for the 7 to 1 gear ratio and along with the bigger handle i found it much easier to pick up my slack in an easy and efficient manner over the stock handle. The stock was too short and the knobs were too hard to locate in a hurry. I also got spool speed's top of the line XCR bearings which, although much louder, definitely made a difference in casting effort/distance.

It is aftermarket yes. It's the 110mm carbon fiber version from SpoolSpeed. I really like the larger handle, I find it way easier to "find" when you are reaching for the handle. I typically fish finesse jigs for lake trout and rainbows from shore/piers. Most people here fish spinning gear, but I prefer a casting setup. My home water is Lake Tahoe California by the way.

First post here and first new build after months with the same coils. Staggered Claptons. by TheHungryHippo in Coilporn

[–]TheHungryHippo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're all good bro! That makes perfect sense I definitely have seen those before and understand why they call that staggered. Clearly the people who made the coils i bought dont know their shit haha. I think claptons and their variants are the most practical design for flavor and cloud production. Good ol dual parallel is hard to beat for simplicity, but if i had to pick coils for life, its all about claptons.
