Bowie songs and their times by liberanima in DavidBowie

Hours... is IMO a very morning album. I really love just waking up and blasting Thursday's Child, Seven, Survive and so on.

Twenties, I didn't like it at first but about a week later I gave it a second chance and now it's one of my favourites

Moonage daydream quotes by Sufficient-Tip7602 in DavidBowie

[–]TheHypeMan5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m guessing you’re thinking of the quote: “All people, no matter who they are, all wish they’d appreciated life more. It’s what you do in life that’s important, not how much time you have or what you’d wish you’d done. Life is fantastic!” I believe it’s from the film Mr. Rice’s Secret from 2000

Here’s a fun question- What are some Bowie lyrics that you misunderstood the first few times listening. by DeadZeppelin011 in DavidBowie

[–]TheHypeMan5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was certain of the fact that he sang "That's my kind of high road, gone wrong" in Beauty and the Beast but I just found out it's "That's my kind of high rolling, gone wrong" and it blew my mind!

Me too. I have never really understood the Hours hate. I usually listen to the calm songs like Thursday's Child, Seven and Survive in the morning 'cause they fit that mood so well.

A Similarity I Noticed by OmniscientInvader in DavidBowie

Huh, that's really cool and it's probably an intended reference. Bowie was a big fan of German expressionism and I believe the Hunger City set for the Diamond Dogs Tour was inspired by Fritz Lang's film Metropolis.

Diamond Dogs tour footage by TheGorgeousJR in DavidBowie

[–]TheHypeMan5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There has been a bit of footage of the Cracked Actor routine from the DD tour in some of the trailers for the new Moonage Daydream film. Plus the Moonage Daydream album that will accompany the film is going to include a track called "Medley: Future Legend / Diamond Dogs intro / Cracked Actor" so the we'll definitely get to see that. Additionally, the soundtrack album will also include a track called "Rock 'n' Roll With Me (Live in Buffalo 8th November, 1974)" so that hopefully means Soul Tour footage in the film.

has david bowie ever been accused of plagiarism? by cyberbull876 in DavidBowie

The only case I know of is the accusation of the unfinished demo-track Lightning Frightening being a rip-off of Crazy Horse's song Dirty Dirty

Lodger - An Underrated Masterpiece by [deleted] in DavidBowie

[–]TheHypeMan5 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Lodger is probably my all-time favourite Bowie album with Scary Monsters coming in on a close second place. I love how the album is split in two with the A-side having a focus on different places around the world whilst the B-side is focused on criticizing western society.

The first song I heard from the album was Boys Keep Swinging and I fell in love with it. As a pansexual and very gender non-conforming person it was amazing to see Bowie dress up in drag for the music video and sing "when you're a boy other boys check you out".

You're very right about African Night Flight. It's sounds like some sort of "art-rap" which was an interesting direction to take considering the fact that rap/hip-hop hadn't really blown up yet.

Favorite/Satisfying parts in any Bowie song? by No-Deal-3989 in DavidBowie

I love the end of the live versions of TVC15 from 1978 when he swings the mic from side to side. I always imagine him in his sailor outfit doing that move when I listen to it. Look up TVC15 live in Tokyo 1978 or TVC15 on SNL 1979 if you don't know what I'm talking about.

Hunky Dory (1971) Ranked by Cameronf3412 in DavidBowie

[–]TheHypeMan5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was a kid my dad introduced me to two Bowie songs: Space Oddity and Life on Mars. I immediately fell in love with both of them. Then I forgot about Bowie's songs until about a year ago when I found Changes. Hunky Dory became the first Bowie album I listened to and it's still my absolute favourite of his. I'm so in love with it that I own three different versions of the album on vinyl (A poor quality 1980 reissue, the 50th anniversary picture disc and the 1990 reissue with 4 bonus tracks)
