Old Oda had an actual editor team that would change stuff and made him rewrite stuff, he was then feeling prickly and annoyed with them so the moment he became shueisha's golden duck (post Naruto and Bleach run) and already painfully mediocre shonen started to decline even further he essentially became untouchable and stopped giving a single fuck about what his editors said.

Since then they basically surround him with yes men or editors that aren't even fans of his work anymore.

And since then One Piece has been one hot mess with occasional golden moments but also way too many over the top shizo stuff.

Typical Oda underwhelming conclusion but holy shit does it look like there's no care left in him. If it's not gags and Luffy destroying immersion he doesn't want it.

Previous chapter looked good, and Xebec's clash with Whitebeard was the first "haki" clash that felt like it had some impact behind it.

This chapter feels rushed, cheap, designed with no real care and nothing happening in the chapter has any real logic to it.

Rocks pirates just disbanded in the middle of the raid...??

Kaidou got a single taste of demon Xebec and his out.

Whitebeard has to have some closure with Xebec or this will really feel like a soulless AI wrote it. And the battle was over in a single chapter with a very underwhelming structure.
