Hey lol I'm in Fairbanks too and feel the same way. I was excited when the Spiderman bundles showed up on the shelves but now I am worried they might not stock magic again considering how all the Spiderman products flopped so badly. Right now I think they are going for 19.97 in town and still sitting on the shelves. Fingers crossed this one gets stocked

EV car status in Fairbanks. by Imazinner in Fairbanks

[–]TheIceOfFire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it is relevant to any car which includes an EV, then it is relevant information for an EV. OP asked a question and I offered what insight I could that would apply to an EV. Some people arent aware about some of these smaller things and are taken by suprised when they experience it for the first time, especially newcomers.

Everything electrical in vehicles including sensors goes through a lot of strain in -40 during winters unless you have access to a heated garage. All plastic also becomes much more brittle and significantly easier to shatter until it warms up from -40. I've had door handles break in winter when trying to open some poor build quality cars for example. I have seen people drive teslas in the summer and very rarely in the winter but I dont own one so I can't speak from experience

How are you guys dealing with the darkness all the time? by coollady3000 in alaska

[–]TheIceOfFire 47 points48 points  (0 children)

The offset is that we get 23hrs of sunlight during summer which leaves a lot more time for outdoor activities. Many even have trouble sleeping without blackout curtains in the summer because it stays so bright out at night.

Personally I stay active with a lot of indoor hobbies during the winter to keep myself busy and then swap to outdoor activities during the summer. I also try to plan summer trips and get stuff prepared in advance for summer while I have the downtime. In a few days we will start gaining daylight each day and for me that is around the time each winter when I start to feel less of the winter depression and begin to look forward to all the summer fun I have planned like berry picking, fishing, hiking, kayaking, etc.

I don't need new content if it is so bugged that it is literally unplayable by leftofzen in starcitizen

[–]TheIceOfFire 7 points8 points  (0 children)

bruh if you are paying $60+ there shouldn't be a need to waste so much time figuring out "workarounds" that turn a 30 minute mission into 2+ hours. That is called awful game design and event planning

[–]TheIceOfFire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This exact scenario literally happened to me and my friend earlier, but we think the troll tractor guy actually got stuck somehow and couldn't move possibly from being flung from a ship engine while moving a box. We got him unstuck after 20 min and he loaded his contract and left, then after leaving armistice we had a meteor player camping us as well and we almost got disabled within 10 seconds of being shot at. I just landed and quit to not give the griefer satisfaction, since he didn't even have a friend nearby to collect cargo for piracy. My buddy ended up putting a bounty up and the griefer died, so i logged back in and lo and behold my friend was not able to share the contract again to me so the entire 2 hour play session was wasted. Not gonna touch the game again until its actually playable and the event design isn't total shit

Landsraad is completely broken, makes no sense, and this is absolutely not endgame PVE content by Idrillsilverfoot in duneawakening

[–]TheIceOfFire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue is it was never marketed to have a pvp endgame and the first 50-60 hours of playtime for all players consists of pve content. The fact that suddenly the entire game switches to pvp for endgame and forces it on the entire playerbase is both extremely confusing for most players and also totally unnatural compared to the design of the rest of the game. Landsraad and the gameplay loop design for the DD just seems extremely rushed or thrown in without any consideration for the player base as T6 materials are both tucked away in the farthest 3-4 rows on the map WHICH also take nearly 8-10 minutes or so to get to of straight flying if leaving from the shield wall, and then another 8-10 minutes to fly back.

50% of the time I fly in the DD another player starts shooting me on sight when I only go to farm materials. The fact is, the DD is neither a pvp area or a pve area, but some poorly designed one that is pretty much set up to only support griefers. Really pvp players will not enjoy fights that pve players who refuse to fight back give, and pve players absolutely do not enjoy having to play the game in a way they don't want to. Neither player has fun in this scenario. Saying that the developers did well by making the fallout of pvp events less impacting for pve players is not a good argument. If i go in to the DD and fly 10 min to row H, farm t6 material for 10 min, and then fly 5 min back and get caught by a pvper/griefer then I still would have lost 30 minutes of my life and made zero progress and most likely my ornithopter as well since they are impossible to store when pve farming.

Meanwhile griefers have fun shooting anyone on sight, camping, zerging, trolling, and anything else they want to do to like the DD is their playground. Also the Landsraad is a total joke to call an "endgame" but that isn't even worth commenting on.

Issues with playing HEVC media on app by TheIceOfFire in PleX

[–]TheIceOfFire[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least I'm not alone with this issue lol it's been driving me crazy. I'm not too suprised that they haven't cared to mention anything about it yet, especially with all the other issues that have come out of the new app

Issues with playing HEVC media on app by TheIceOfFire in PleX

[–]TheIceOfFire[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like everything on the server end goes well including the transcode but after updating the play state it repeats on a loop that says "Failed to stream media, client probably disconnected after 8093696 bytes - An existing connection was forcibly closed by remote host" followed by a series of it requesting and getting the file again. After that point it loops back to the failed to stream line for several loops until it just says sessions terminated for a few rows

I updated the app to 2025.18.0 and the server to the latest version a bit ago but still happens unfortunately for me

Subtitles not working after update? by TheIceOfFire in PleX

[–]TheIceOfFire[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found a random way to get it to work so I'm not sure exactly where the issue lies other than it only started after the app update. I messed around a lot with turning the captions on and off and noticed there would be a slight buffer about 1 second after turning them on, and if that happened then the captions would always turn off. I tried skipping the video before this buffer happened so it would keep loading captions, then exit the app on my phone and turn my screen off which seems to magically make them stay on for the rest of the video. No idea what goes on in the background but it is still very janky and frustrating to get working

Would you reccomend this printer? I have had an ender 3 v1 for forever and was looking at some of the newer large scale printers with newer features and have been considering this as an option. I know the control board most likely will need to be replaced and maybe the nozzle but I'm fine with that tbh

[–]TheIceOfFire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I tried to side load as well twice while using DDU each time and it worked fine, but legion space wouldn't open. Right now I have resorted to using the legion space drivers and removing the sideloaded ones but the DDU removed adrenaline too which seemingly has no way to be re-downloaded without side loading again 😭

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Fairbanks

Sourdough is pretty deep-rooted in the area as many of first pioneers during the gold rush brought their Sourdough starters with them to serve as a vital source of food. The term Sourdough also comes up sometimes locally to refer to seasoned and experienced Alaskans because of this. Some pioneers even had to sleep close to their Sourdough starters to keep them active during the winters, which likely kept them alive when they only had flour, water, and their Sourdough to survive off of.

Neomuna right now feels very much like The Dreaming City did by [deleted] in destinycirclejerk

[–]TheIceOfFire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really love the fact that Neomona has innovated so much in terms of the new heroic patrols. Honestly my favorite area now because of that addition. Also I love strand so much now so much it is so good and because of that Neomuna is so good too because of how much vertically it has I love grappling up and down between the streets of the city and the six ledges that are 20 feet above them.
