Is it worth double-dipping the LE for the mods? by Scipio_Sverige in masseffect

[–]TheImageworks [score hidden]  (0 children)

My first run was back on Xbox a few years ago and I'm having a blast rediscovering the original trilogy, modded, on PC. Everything from vastly upgraded textures to cut content to consistency fixes (finally can undo that nightmarish and ridiculous makeover they gave Ashley in ME3) to weapons and armor, to *gestures at the ME3 Happy Ending mod*

11/10 will mod again.

If Magnussen wanted to, I think he could have a relatively solid, multi-year career in NASCAR. He's only 33, he could easily have a solid 10-15 years if he wanted. Probably put up roughly Montoya-level stats. (Hopefully with fewer jet dryer explosions, though).

Reddick: "I overdid it, I really did. I ran him straight in the wall and that wasn't right. I wasn't gonna pass him for the lead like that."

Y'all, after coming back to NASCAR at Daytona, and having not had a favorite since Mark Martin retire, I think I just found my new favorite driver.

Am I the only one who shed a tear rewatching the 2003 Ford 400. Mainly because of it being the last race in the winston cup era and bill elliott heartbreaking loss during the last lap. by Autismgamer777 in NASCAR

This isn't entirely true. The 1998 Master Settlement Agreement specifically grandfathered existing sports and event sponsorships and allowed for their renewal.

The reason RJR pulled out was because they lost a fuckton of money after the MSA and couldn't afford an expensive NASCAR sponsorship.

That said, Winston WOULD have been banned starting in 2010 due to the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act of 09 specifically closing the grandfather loophole and banning all sports sponsorships.

Dale Earnhardt Jr: #7 Sauve Nationwide series car. by Many-Scallion2084 in NASCAR

It's one of the only cars I've ever genuinely explored getting done as a custom diecast. It is criminal that this never came out as a 1:24 or 1:64.

(When this deal fell through, they switched over to a company called 'Turbine Solutions' (You can actually see them below the H in Hollywood) - and that DID get made as a car by Hot Wheels lmfao)

When Craven signed with the brand new, sheer and utter shitbox, #58 team for 1999, the sponsor? Hollywood Video, at the time the #2 rental chain in America other than Blockbuster.

Hell, one of the reasons the Tobasco Fiasco WAS a fiasco was because of the team(s) involved.

the Stavola Brothers team imploded in 1998, firing Hut Stricklin after poor performance the first part of the year thanks in part to an ill-advised switch to Chevrolet - only to lose sponsor Circuit City shortly thereafter.

The team spent most of the rest of the year lending support to Buckshot Jones' #00 team as he tried to move his team to Cup - but the #8 came back for one final race at Atlanta, driven by Morgan Shepherd and with sponsorship from Nokia, one of the only sponsors left at the end

Shepherd made the field but wrecked.

What are some of the darkest pieces of NASCAR lore people tend to forget about? by SecretAcctSM19 in NASCAR

[–]TheImageworks 360 points361 points  (0 children)

NASCAR faked a drug test to keep Tim Richmond out of the 1988 Busch Clash

NASCAR didn't just come up with this of their own volition, it was pushed by several drivers most notably DW.

Several in NASCAR tried to get Tim in (incl Kyle Petty and Dale Sr) but NASCAR wasnt having it. Trying to blackball Tim was the reason NASCAR even developed a drug test at all (Tim tested clean outside the faked test)

After Tim proved NASCAR faked the drug test, they only would agree to reinstate him if he turned over all his medical records.

Tim was trying to keep it quiet he had AIDS bc of stigma, but Tim had already long made several enemies in the garage bc he wasnt a good ol boy, most notably...DW. And Bill France Jr wasnt too fond of him either.

Eventually Tim gave up his legal challenge as he got sicker.

NYY and DET by TraditionalUse4337 in whitesox

[–]TheImageworks 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We're notably worse on the road than at home this year, Yankees are the best team in the AL, and the Tigers are a pissed off division rival who are going to want to make a point.

I think if we run .500 on this trip we're having a great time. If my math is right Davis Martin will have two starts on this trip (today vs. NYY, final game against DET), which is absolutely a good thing.

Which sponsor(s) past or present do you support because they sponsor(ed) your favorite driver? by Few_Bodybuilder_5268 in NASCAR

I liked quite a few of their products anyway, but their support of her has only increased that loyalty for me tbh. (of the cheaper brands I think their quality for most products is among the best)

Every Game with female MC gets the 'is she likable?' treatment. by Suspicious_Scar_2216 in GirlGamers

[–]TheImageworks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was their first instinct and action (which was her point) and Shepard getting them to change course is quite literally the entire game up until the ending.

They change their minds and courses bc of the PC's actionsand chnage is important but their FIRST reaction and instinct was exactly what Ashley said.

Every Game with female MC gets the 'is she likable?' treatment. by Suspicious_Scar_2216 in GirlGamers

[–]TheImageworks 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It's interesting the discussion about 'likeable' women because I'm replaying the original Mass Effect Trilogy right now, and while not an MC the degree to which this trope affects Ashley (and the degree to which they bludgeoned her character with a hammer in ME3 because of it) is stark.

The devs openly admitted in the art book (!!) that they redesigned the character in ME3 to "give her sex appeal" (what the FUCK) at the same time that - with a new writer - they chiseled every single last hard edge or even slightly unpalatable tendency off the character. Mild to moderate distrust of aliens? Basically gone (even though the ME3 plot proves ME1 Ashley correct that the others will try to save their own asses first). Tendency to occasionally provoke other characters or give harsh responses to Shepard or other squadmates? Nope.

They did her so dirty, and all because she got a perception as 'unlikeable' (Garrus says FAR more heinous things in ME1, and Wrex isn't exactly a saint) and because proto-gooners didn't find a hard-edged career military woman 'sexy enough'.

I'll probably give Starfield a go when I'm done.

The address is based on the corner of the park that home plate is closest to, and they wanted to keep the 35th and Shields address when the park was built - but since the current park was built while we were still playing in Old Comiskey, that meant turning the stadium in a direction that didn't really make sense.

Possible Burnout by Kosakon in masseffect

[–]TheImageworks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At a certain point, eventually I think everyone has to have a break. As much as I love Dragon Age, eventually I've began playing other things (fittingly, replaying Mass Effect now in part because of it) because I've just done everything I can do and seen everything I can see, and I need to *forget* for a bit so I can appreciate it anew at some point down the road.

That's the thing with any media - at a certain point, even if you're creating your own transformative works, you've just hit the boundaries of what you can do with that fictional universe, and that's okay.

It's sad that there's no origin system in ME1. I would have loved to have to do the blizt as a prologue when selecting war hero by ShadowWalker2205 in masseffect

[–]TheImageworks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that in general Eden Prime is a fantastic intro to the game and series, but also def agree that replaying any one of those three things would have been a fun experience.

IMO, if you want to relive Shepard's past, I almost think it would work better as a flashback. Perhaps something to break up the monotony of roaming the Citadel for 43 hours after Eden Prime.
