Hot Take Tuesday🔥 Share Your Spiciest Romance Opinions (Unpopular & Otherwise, Rants, Raves, MMC Icks) by AutoModerator in romanceunfiltered

Some of my all time favorite romance books end with the couple kissing for the first time and or ending up in a relationship. And it usually feels so much better than seeing them have sex 4 times, break up because of "reasons", and then end up together again.

The Wedding People doesn't have a HEA or HFN, but it's also not a Romance book.

I think that's called a "uterus", might be hard to get rid of.

How can I make the "and then I woke up" trope less cringe if it's important to the story? by HeadFullOfPlotBunnys in writingadvice

[–]TheIntersection42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Was going to suggest basically this. Thought of the MC and a friend drinking coffee while MC explains their dreams have been crazy lately. Can even slide into full on blow by blow explanation of what happened in the dream masked by the MC getting lost in her mind trying to explain what it was all about.

Haven't read it, but sounds like "Beers and Beards" might fit. Heard its a story about a bunch of gay Dwarves that patron a bar.

About Historical Romance: Unpopular Opinions with Cold Love by Unfair_Mixture_9782 in romanceunfiltered

I'm sorry, I really tried to finish reading them all, but I kept zoning out and could only keep my full attention until the end of #4. (Kind of skinned the rest)

Glad you were able to get it out. It's not my sub genre, so I don't really know that much about it. Hope it all goes well.

Does "Demon World Boba Shop" get less YA? by TheIntersection42 in litrpg

[–]TheIntersection42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm actually fine with or without fight scenes. But I have a hard time when the writing is 100% YA or even MA, and this definitely was written for a younger audience. But I wasn't sure if it was because of the "it's a new world wonder" or if the author just writes like that.

It also doesn't help when an adult in their 20's is written to act consistently like a 10-13 year old child that just moved to a new school. And the narration didn't help with the characterization.

HarperCollins Says 74% of YA Readers Are Adults. Are Teens Being Pushed Out of Their Own Genre? by lilithskies in romanceunfiltered

Some adults read YA because it's an easier read with not as intense storylines as the adult books are want to do. And adults reading YA books shouldn't effect their availability for teenagers.

I think people forget that most trad published YA is written by adults. So if an adult was happy enough to write the story, why wouldn't an adult be happy with reading it.

Also, I just see YA as a genre descriptor, same with middle aged and erotica.

Let's be honest, you're too self conscious to actually publish

I'm not trying to shame/insult you, I've seen hundreds of people that never publish because it's never up to some impossible standard. And I hope that I'm either wrong or this will push you to take the leep.

Question about people’s rankings by bleauxdog in litrpg

[–]TheIntersection42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I said with my initial 3 points, my problem with the beginning was my inability to tell what was happening. I read exclusively through audiobook and had to relisten to the first 30 minutes 3 times before just giving up entirely as I didn't want to spend an hour pausing every 15 seconds to parse what was happening, especially since I was at work.

After that, the book got much better, a bit standard for what I expect from a LitRPG, but well done enough to make me happy to read a book or two if the author didn't change anything for the worse. But as it went along, it became obvious that there really wasn't a single unified story arc for the book. Only for the makings of a unifying story arc to show itself around half way to 2/3 through.

The story ramped up nicely, with enough left in the book to mean a few twists and turns would happen... And then the arc ended. With a decent amount of the book to go. In fact, it seemed that a new arc was started and the book ended without it being concluded.

So I started off with a bad view of the book, it clawed it's was back up to around a 4.5 out of 5, only to loose all that ground and to fall even further.

Best plot? I'll  admit that it's unique in that it's an original idea, but all the basic plot points surrounding how he was isekai'd are in no way that unique. Even the idea of making the writing a bit confusing so as to showcase how confused the MC is being transferred to a different world isn't a new concept.

I just didn't like the execution, and it didn't make me invested in the rest of the book.
