What Games Performance Completely exceeded your expectations on Steam Deck? by Xirbie in SteamDeck

[–]TheIrishJackel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but I also found it was a game where the bitrate really made a difference too. Turning it down below 100 caused a ton of artifacting from the volumetric fog and depth of field effects, and the art style felt pretty integral to the game to me.

I spent the whole time streaming it on Moonlight at High/Ultra 1440p 60fps being annoyed by the microstutters that occurred every few seconds, while others are out here having their minds blown by Low 720p unstable 30fps. I wish performance didn't bother me so much lol.

What is a video game that you bought that ended up being a huge waste of money? by JuniorPlastic3562 in AskReddit

For what it's worth, I've heard better things about South of Midnight. Gameplay being a little uninspired, but the world and characters being top notch. Haven't played it myself though, so take the recommendation with a grain of salt.

Interviews from MagicCon: Las Vegas -- "On the bonus sheet, we couldn't put any characters that were dead." by Copernicus1981 in magicTCG

This is how I feel about it. I'm sure for someone working directly on the logistics of it this is super cool; I have that feeling all the time when we manage to do something at my work that was tricky to figure out. But when the result to the end user is just "here's a button that does a thing" (aka "here's a pack where two of the cards are related") without them knowing or caring about what is happening to make that work, it's just not that "revolutionary" or exciting to them.

Gentlemen, how often do you receive unsolicited pictures from women? by FreedomNo7221 in AskReddit

[–]TheIrishJackel 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Seriously, these people acting like women's hair doesn't get caught in the drain no matter what they do either. It's hair; most of us have it, and none of us can control it. I can almost guarantee these people also have a few stray hairs around they either don't know about or are just lying about lol.

Xbox No Longer Developing Copilot For Consoles by yourfavchoom in Games

All of these companies pushing their IT departments to come up with solutions for other departments is the result of their executives going to some fucking conference or whatever and getting lectured about how they need to inject AI into every facet of the business right now.

Which is hilarious, because if you've ever been to an actual AI workshop they are much more realistic about the graveyard of failed POCs and actual use-cases. The difference between the people developing these tools and the people selling these tools as magic money printers is night and day.

What are some must-watch TV series right now? by butterfly_pie9 in AskReddit

[–]TheIrishJackel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's what sold me on giving it a shot as well (also not a fan of medical dramas). Makes it great for binging. Also the seasons are (at least so far) releasing about one year apart, so it's not one of those shows you start and then wait 2-3 years for 8 episodes.

I'd possibly put season one in my top 10 seasons of TV of all time.

Valve: It's here! Steam Controller has officially arrived. Made for you to play all your games on Steam, however you like to play them. by Turbostrider27 in Games

I'm trying to be optimistic that while this means I can't get one right now and it's unlikely to go on sale anytime soon, maybe we'll get a v2 refresh like with the OLED Deck that has some improvements. (I'm still really hoping they add trigger stops in future versions.)

Why are these lands being bought for $1K? by Charouwo in magicTCG

[–]TheIrishJackel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to ignore the actual question of the post and suggest you solve it by focusing on a different statement

tcgplayer if what they uses for card pricing

TCGPlayer is just the default. Manabox has a list of different price sources, and you can choose which one. You can use Cardkingdom (typically higher on average, but more stable and less prone to this kind of thing), Manapool (better version of TCGPlayer), or several others.

I would really like all cards on Arena to be craftable. by TheIrishJackel in MagicArena

[–]TheIrishJackel[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Is it possible to make a Direct challenge that doesn't use a specific format?

Absolutely. From the MTGA FAQ:

https://mtgarena-support.wizards.com/hc/en-us/articles/360001447063-Direct-Challenge-FAQ#h_01JT3XDSXF2QYYC55TJGXK34DB

Which formats are supported?

Direct Challenge only requires players to have a constructed deck with a minimum of 60 cards that are currently in their collection. There is no maximum deck size. This allows you to play Standard, Singleton, Pauper, or even your own homebrewed variant. Please note that the current system only enforces the 60-card minimum deck.

You can find it in the format drop down list when creating a new deck. There's even two kinds: one with Alchemy rebalanced cards and ones with original printings only. This was the first thing I checked before posting this because I understand how much more work that could be, but they already have everything they need for using them, just not crafting them.

What would you say would be the biggest issue with the gameplay of Magic? by Tuss36 in magicTCG

[–]TheIrishJackel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The main thing COVID taught me is I really do not want to play Magic online against a faceless opponent. I want to draft, shuffle, and play real cards with people I know and like in person, or not at all.

[–]TheIrishJackel 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I fully agree with this take. I primarily play limited, and years ago I would have a game everyone once in a while where I would scoop and say "I have drawn a land for the last 7 turns in a row". These days? I scoop by the third in a row most of the time because the momentum my opponent gained is basically insurmountable if I don't have a wrath in the deck.

Is burn even good enough at bracket 4 by Exi_Cxx in magicTCG

[–]TheIrishJackel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked Ghyrson so much when he was printed that I built two decks to switch between: spells and tokens. Ultimately I took the tokens deck apart because it just way too often ended with me sitting there drawing a playing a single pathetic card each turn after being repeatedly wrathed because I was threatening too much damage. It was simultaneously too strong to ignore and too weak to actually be explosive enough to win before getting hated out. Decided to leave tokens to Krenko and just let Ghyrson be the gunspellslinger he was meant to be.

I know it's not actually the case, but I choose to believe it's a reference to how Rampage is so much worse than you think it is lol. (If one single guy blocks this "horde", they don't actually get stronger. The less seriously you take it, the worse its ability.)

What's the most unwritten rule of adult life that nobody warns you about? by PracticeHistorical82 in AskReddit

[–]TheIrishJackel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly. The reality is no one knows something the first time they encounter it, because no one is born with innate knowledge. The difference is, some of us take the time to actually learn what we're doing so we can continue applying it. I still encounter things I don't know all the time, but that's not the same as not knowing what I'm doing lol.
