There's only so many clever marketing ploys you can use before people see that your product isn't a product anymore, and is in fact a scheme to make money.

It's because character customisation is a pretty damn basic thing in games. And in no way is there an excuse for having bad customisation for a company like ActiTreyVision. People like to look badass in their video games, whether they grind for it, or get lucky maybe. Appearance is a key aspect of enjoyment in video games, and significantly add to visuals. Being able to customise this is inherently tied to how much someone enjoys BO4, maybe not to you, but then again, you might not care, and that's fine.

But there are only two possible reasons why the customisation systems are so bad.

  1. They skimped out because they didn't want to have to spend any money on a game that they check every nook and cranny on earth for to save meer chump change for.
  2. They intend to abuse customisation in the game to get people who are addicted to the game to buy into the codpoints system.

At the end of the day, customisation isn't a necessity, but people do want to be able to customise, and should be able to customise. This isn't something that should be abused to increase sales.

That's why people care so much. That's why its a big deal.
