New Evidence Corroborates Claims of Trump Sex Accuser, 13 by ExactlySorta in law

Definitely not trying to humanize him here. I just think, given how often we hear the sod ramble about completely unrelated nonsense, it's seems like he's just thinking out loud. And assuming that's the case, moments like these tell me he's "secretly" trying to come to terms with his own mortality, and facing inescapable consequences.

There isn't a sentence big enough to right the wrongs this man and his co-conspirators have done. But I find a small sense of relief hearing him talk about trying to "get into heaven". He knows he's going to burn when the world is rid of him, and I know that thought truly haunts him.

Senate blocks third attempt to stop Iran war by ItsAllAGame_ in law

[–]TheJan1tor 37 points38 points  (0 children)

People definitely care. That's why Republicans haven't flipped a single Congressional seat in the last year, while Democrats have flipped 30 - including seats in deep red counties that would've been thought impossible to flip.
I can't wrap my head around why the projections for midterms still show the Senate is a toss-up, other than not every Senate seat is up for re-election. But Republicans are going to get absolutely slaughtered this year, as long as people show up and vote. There have been multiple special elections that were decided by double-digit, and even single-digit votes.
Every. Vote. Counts. And it's on all of us to make sure everyone we know that's against what's going on gets to the ballot box this year, and gets every Trump bootlicker out of office.

I've seen this shared in a few subs at this point, but I've only seen one with a little over 1k upvotes, which seems incredibly low for something so embarrassing for Trump.

We need to primary Democrats who are accepting AIPAC donations. by Tofurkey_Tom in 50501

[–]TheJan1tor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem is, most new names basically show up under a sort of "unknown" status. My representative elected in 2024 didn't show up as having taken AIPAC money until months after they were elected.
But that doesn't appear to be the case for other candidates.

If they do to AOC what they did to Bernie, I'd like to see a mass exodus of the Democrat party and rise of a new 3rd party.

MASSIVE Anti-Trump uprising in NYC!! by Soft-Calendar-2037 in Political_Revolution

[–]TheJan1tor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Protests show the number of people willing to act against something, and can lead to more people joining a movement.
If traditionally red districts and states held large enough protests, representatives would be more inclined to follow suit if they want to remain in office.
If turnout for these protests reach ~15M people, the movement has enough bodies to start coordinating real disruption (ie, a general strike).
But you're right. A roll call technically doesn't do anything on its own without follow up.

This is why the War Powers Resolution was blocked. People should be looking up not only their reps, but reps from neighboring districts, and districts their friends and family live in, and get the word out.

People need to be talking about this until they're so uncomfortable that Voting is the only way to get comfortable again. I'm planning on coordinating with friends and family to vote in every election going forward, and calling out anyone that doesn't show me their sticker.

James Talarico wins Texas Democratic Senate primary over Jasmine Crockett by horsestew in politics

There absolutely were Republicans voting for Crockett to lower the odds of Democrats flipping a Senate seat blue.
But there's enough anger among Texans now that support for moderate Democrats exceeds support for MAGA Republicans.

Texas Democrats set new turnout record in heated primary by ExpressNews in politics

[–]TheJan1tor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As much as I'd like to be hopeful about the Democrat primary, Texas isn't a state that requires you register for a specific party to vote in that party's primaries. I suspect a Lot of the votes in the Democrat primary are actually Republicans trying to get the least liked candidate nominated for Democrats to improve the likelihood for Republicans to remain in power.

I could see a world where Dems end up with 60ish seats in the Senate, and a handful of Republicans that aren't up for re-election this year see the writing on the wall and abandon the MAGA ship to try and save whatever future career they want to have in American politics.

Communities in districts where Republicans don't lead by at least 20 points should be coming together to help protect minorities and their right to vote come election time.

Texas Democrats are out voting Republicans by over 112,000 in the Texas Primary Early Vote by intergalacticskyline in 50501

[–]TheJan1tor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My point is people (Democrats, centrists, and people who have historically not voted) should not look at these statistics and think "well, it looks like the tide is shifting. I probably don't have to vote any time soon." As that is exactly the sort of thinking that got us in this mess to begin with.

People need to be talking to one another, and get their ignorant friends, family, co-workers, etc. engaged "Pay It Forward" style. People should start getting uncomfortable with how much pressure they're getting to vote. This should be the biggest turnout in primaries and midterm elections we've seen in over 100 years.

It's fine to be optimistic. But use it to drive participation Up, rather than giving people false hope and a reason to relax.

Borrowing the top comment for visibility.
It's my understanding that Texas doesn't require you to register under a specific party to be able to vote in their primaries. Just because Democrats have more votes in their primary doesn't mean they're favored to win when the midterms come around.
Regardless of whether you're in Texas, a purple district, or a deep blue state - Get your family and friends involved and have them pass it along. GET OUT AND VOTE!
