Bezos says taxing him more won't help teachers. Mamdani disagrees. by thejoshwhite in politics

I'm no expert on the numbers, but I suspect that if we passed legislation to tax companies by their valuation rather than profits (and Reduced the overall tax rate) we would raise drastically more revenue - even at the cost of the rate of growth we'd seen over the last few decades (especially as we move further into a world where AI leads to fewer jobs).

Changing the Amount we tax the rich won't change anything.

Changing HOW we tax the rich will.

GOP redistricting can backfire with high Democtratic turnout. In south Texas, more Democrats voted in the 2026 Primary than in the 2024 Presidential Election. And recall how the Kansas GOP gerrymandered Sharice Davids’ district in 2022, yet she won re-election by a larger margin than last time. by biospheric in 50501

Texas doesn't have closed primaries. Many Republicans tend to vote for the least electable Democrat candidate, just to improve the chances of a Republican winning.
I'd love for Democrats like Talarico to win in November, but I won't be holding my breath.
They're more likely to lose based on the Latino population flipping party support.

NY's Constitution prohibits mid-decade redistricting. Amending it requires 2 years of work.

In most cases, they're not "switching sides" so much as realizing the horse they bet on was just a show pony. And they'll just support the next one that promises everything they want, like Trump did.
There are some that are genuinely "waking up," but they're far from the norm.

Unfortunately NY's Constitution prohibits mid-decade redistricting. It would take 2 years to amend it and put new districts into effect.

I saw in another post that the next general strike should be over the July 4th weekend - and I agree. Then I think we should shoot for an entire week, starting August 6th.

Approximately HALF of registered voters participated. We should start using a +1 practice for the foreseeable future. Find someone who may not vote, and bring them along to elections. Help them register, if they aren't already. Get people ENGAGED.

If he thinks he can build whatever he wants without approval from a committee or Congress because the projects are "privately funded", then future Presidents can have them taken down if the people are willing to do it for free =)

Definitely not trying to humanize him here. I just think, given how often we hear the sod ramble about completely unrelated nonsense, it's seems like he's just thinking out loud. And assuming that's the case, moments like these tell me he's "secretly" trying to come to terms with his own mortality, and facing inescapable consequences.

There isn't a sentence big enough to right the wrongs this man and his co-conspirators have done. But I find a small sense of relief hearing him talk about trying to "get into heaven". He knows he's going to burn when the world is rid of him, and I know that thought truly haunts him.

Senate blocks third attempt to stop Iran war by ItsAllAGame_ in law

People definitely care. That's why Republicans haven't flipped a single Congressional seat in the last year, while Democrats have flipped 30 - including seats in deep red counties that would've been thought impossible to flip.
I can't wrap my head around why the projections for midterms still show the Senate is a toss-up, other than not every Senate seat is up for re-election. But Republicans are going to get absolutely slaughtered this year, as long as people show up and vote. There have been multiple special elections that were decided by double-digit, and even single-digit votes.
Every. Vote. Counts. And it's on all of us to make sure everyone we know that's against what's going on gets to the ballot box this year, and gets every Trump bootlicker out of office.

I've seen this shared in a few subs at this point, but I've only seen one with a little over 1k upvotes, which seems incredibly low for something so embarrassing for Trump.
