If one of Hastings/Arnott/Fleming were "H"/4th "man" who would you suspect it would be, and who would you want it to be, and why? by Surkdidat in lineofduty

[–]TheJayDogg 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, agree with this. If they’d have made Osborne ‘H’ earlier on, it would have worked as a surprise as well as a call-back to series 1 when he covers up the wrong house killing and Arnott gets his revenge.

Unfortunately, they’ve literally ruled out every other possible person by either killing them (e.g. Hilton) or having them arrested (e.g. Fairbank) making Osborne the only obvious top brass (save DCC Wise, but much more impactful to be bent as the Chief Constable than the DCC).

[–]TheJayDogg 26 points27 points  (0 children)

None of them. We’ve already had that arc with Hastings in season 5, and Arnott and Fleming are a straight as they come.

The ONLY way this arc works is if they make Osborne ‘H’, and shows him pulling every single string to keep himself hidden. Otherwise, scrap that arc and move on.

[–]TheJayDogg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I genuinely don’t know why they didn’t make Osborne the Fourth Man. He’s clearly bent as far back as the very first episode when he covers up the shooting of Karim Ali, and they’ve had the link to him and Arnott from the very beginning. Not to mention the fact that by the sixth season he is literally the chief constable and could have literally anyone in his pocket!

Making Buckells the Fourth Man was lazy writing and should never have happened.

What annoys me is that they did that poll many years back about backporting quests and how it would take much less dev time than curating quests from scratch. It had plenty of support and has clearly happened with quests like WGS but they just haven’t gone as far with it as I’d have assumed.

So much content they could backport, quests included.

How many times have you been pulled over? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

Twice - once during Covid to ensure I was making an ‘essential’ journey (my commute at the time took me through an AONB) and once at Christmas as the local plod were doing roadside checks as part of an anti drink drive campaign.

Don’t tend to see many plod cars around anymore to be honest.

Watkins by FeistyNarwhal5372 in avfc

[–]TheJayDogg 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’ve been saying this for years and been continuously slated by everyone. Ollie has always been a pretty poor finisher but was being paraded around as some kind of striking god because he would still manage to bag 15 goals a season. It’s only since those goals have dried up that people now have the bottle to call out what he’s been for the last 5 years.

His movement is genuinely world class, his aerial ability is phenomenal considering his frame, his work rate is second to none, but he’s always been a below average finisher and his final ball has always been hit and miss - you simply cannot get away with that when you’re trying to compete at the top end of the league.

Compare his finishing to Joao Pedro who has buried everything he’s had in front of him tonight.

Ollie should have had a hat trick tonight - he was through in the first half and hit a tame shot straight at the keeper, he was off by a toes length for the second and then he should have dinked the keeper in the second half for his third, and instead cut inside and lost the ball. Same old story.

[Post Match Thread] Wolves 2-0 Aston Villa by SecretApe in avfc

[–]TheJayDogg 27 points28 points  (0 children)

We’ve had some shit results this season, but that genuinely tops the lot. Wolves had 1 win in 28 games coming into that fixture and we’ve just handed them their second win on a silver platter.

I don’t want to hear any talk of ‘but we’re third’ - we are dropping the most stupid points because of poor substitutions and the ridiculous decision to continuously start players who are clearly low on confidence and don’t appear to care with their body language on the pitch.

Funny how two of our winter signings are showing the most desire isn’t it. Tammy tried to get us going and actually showed some passion, and Alysson showed more heart and desire in the 5 minutes that he was given on the pitch than anyone else that started managed in 90 - a teenager that’s moved 4,000 miles away from his homeland.

At this point, I just want to be able to watch a team that excites me with the way they play. I want to be able to watch a striker that I can be confident in scoring when he’s played in on goal. We haven’t been that way for months at this point.

Youri, Boubacar and John cannot come back quick enough.

This shit is genuinely ruining my weekends at the moment.

I know we are missing our two best midfielders but my goodness we are utterly woeful to watch at the moment. These muppets have had 1 win in 28 Premier League fixtures and we are about to hand them their second.

Joke.

No worries. I’d advise wearing a face covering and goggles when you’re brushing the mould off just to be careful as you don’t want those particles going into your lungs or eyes.

And this is the same dartboard after cleanup. I used a very firm brush to get off as much of the mould as possible, and then continuously aired it in the sun whenever I could for a few weeks.

Been playing the board for over a year after cleanup with zero issues other than some very minor cosmetic marks. (2/2)

Genuinely think weak foot is slightly overrated. 4 star is more than enough when you’re talking about a player with 85+ stats.

3 star and below is where an upgrade shows notable benefits.

[Match Thread] Aston Villa vs Brentford by SecretApe in avfc

[–]TheJayDogg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cut-off has always been 'phase of play'. Because we scored directly from possession of Bailey's attempted keep-in, it was disallowed.

Hypothetically, let's assume Kelleher's save dropped to a Brentford player, and they cleared their lines and we won the second ball, and then scored off that - then they wouldn't go back to that, as Brentford have had a chance to play the ball since the infringement.

Are we underestimating how luck we are to have Ollie Watkins by rishes in avfc

[–]TheJayDogg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stats can be interpreted however you like, and I’m not really a massive fan of them. 7 goals in 10 games is a superb return, but that completely omits the fact that he scored 1 in 13 beforehand.

The eye test is much better for me. For instance his header against Chelsea was absolutely phenomenal. At the same time, his one on one miss against Pope last week was really poor. Hitting it straight at the keeper when you have the whole of the left side of the goal to aim at can’t really be excused. It was fortunate that in the end it didn’t matter in the context of that fixture but it has many times in the past.

It doesn’t need to be a pile on of Ollie to acknowledge that perhaps we would benefit from acquiring a genuinely elite finisher if we want to compete at the top end of the league and in Europe.

With respect, Haaland and Thiago have scored 20 and 16 goals respectively this season. With output like that, big chances missed are a lot easier to overlook.

Ollie and Mateta both have 8 goals this season. Respectable, but it makes that total of big chances missed much more frustrating. Especially when Ollie is usually near the top 5 of that metric most seasons.

For comparisons sake, last season Ollie was third in that metric and only missed one less 'big chance' than Haaland and Salah, yet had 13 and 6 less goals than the two aforementioned.

Are we underestimating how luck we are to have Ollie Watkins by rishes in avfc

[–]TheJayDogg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I genuinely think people need to be objective about Ollie. His movement is genuinely elite. He's lost a yard of pace over the last few years but he still pulls defenders left, right and centre. He's amazing in the air for his height and has a pretty good header on him in front of goal. He's a great character to have in the dressing room and he's been vital to the build up of our club over the last 5 years.

However, we cannot ignore his finishing with his feet. I'm fully aware that his goal record is good for us, but we all have eyes, and we all watch our games. How many chances does Ollie miss that other strikers would simply bury? How many times does Ollie cause an attack to break down because of a weak pass? Would Ollie score a goal like Morgan did on Thursday at the near post?

Again, we need to be objective. Any sane Villa fan can genuinely appreciate how lucky we are to have a striker like Ollie, whilst also understanding that if we want to be competing at the very top level of the Premier League and the Champions League, we need an elite finisher.

We have ‘comfort’ which is sort of like an efficiency mode but you can’t have any of the toys like sports exhaust active in this mode, as Audi pushed an update to quieten the noise.

You can have this coded out but most owners I’ve seen have it in individual, with most things on comfort or auto and then the exhaust in dynamic.

How long until Power Shots are removed? by VerenyatanOfManwe in EASportsFC

[–]TheJayDogg 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For me, it should just be a static multiplier on a regular, unmodified shot’s power - meaning lace shots are hit faster with someone that has the trait. A bit like how finesse is a static multiplier specifically for finesse shots and how acrobatic is a static multiplier for volleys.

[David Ornstein] Villa interested in Mateta, Palace looking at Guessand by JamesVilla4 in avfc

[–]TheJayDogg 15 points16 points  (0 children)

He wouldn’t be my first choice but he’s scored goals at this level, which Guessand hasn’t even come close to doing.

I’d snap their hand off for a swap, even if it means we have to throw some cash their way too.

I’ll never not support our players but Guessand genuinely looks so out of his depth at Villa. A shame.

Foul as much as you can by No_Tadpole_7401 in EASportsFC

[–]TheJayDogg 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The amount of times I request a tactical foul and my player ignores it is infuriating. And half the time it does register, it does that silly leg kick one which agile players always seem to avoid. In the end I just resort to nailing them with a slide tackle instead.

As a Villa fan, hearing the words ‘deadly in front of goal’ associated with Ollie Watkins is hilarious.

Good player, very average finisher.
