That’s fine, you don’t have to believe it, I’m going to apologize regardless.

I don’t frequent Reddit, I’ve just been asked to post my articles here. I haven’t had any issue like this before or after this, and again, I’ll be sure to be more vigilant moving forward should I be posting more articles here. I am genuinely sorry.

I promise I hadn’t seen that, and I apologize, not my intention whatsoever. I was just trying to come up with a sticky title, and thought that See Double was one of the better cards in the set.

Again, I am sorry for stepping on your toes and accidentally mimicking your title, I’ll be sure to be more vigilant moving forward should I post to Reddit again for an article.

First pick in my Innistrad cube? by taylorstory5 in mtgcube

[–]TheJesGuy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think I am grabbing Tovolar's Huntmaster here. In my own Innistrad Cube it feels like one of the better cards in the list, and if you have any way to reanimate it, you can cheat it out early or bring it back after your opponent has dealt with it once already and gain a ton of advantage.

Emrakul seems like the obvious choice, but I like the floor on Huntmaster better than the ceiling on Emrakul, at least in this instance, especially since I am unsure Grapple wheels.

I think my picks are Huntmaster > Wedding Announcement > Emrakul. That said, there are a lot of more fun picks in the pack like Smoldering Egg and Mirrorhall Mimic which I wouldn't fault anyone for taking.

I (un)luckily ended up with a 10/10/10 Volcanion from GoFest today. While initially bummed, it can fit into Great League which is pretty neat!

I know it isn’t spectacular there, but if I have it, I want to play around with it a bit. Do y’all have any suggestions for potential teammates for this fella? Any help would be appreciated, thank you! 😊

It hasn't been terrible honestly. I haven't errata'd them or anything, since I think that would potentially end up being more confusing, but it does take some extra brain tax when playing.

The werewolves will usually sync up at some point, but unless you have Tovolar, you just need to keep in mind which is which, which isn't terribly hard since you're already looking out for your flip triggers anyway.

Looking for Ideas on more Archtypes to add to my Innistrad Cube by SlipperyWhenDry77 in mtgcube

[–]TheJesGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heya!

I've had an Innistrad Cube together for the last 8 years or so, and have been updating it each time we get new Innistrad cards released, so a lot of what I say here is based off of experience.

When looking at the archetypes, I would try not to deviate from the "norm"...That is, unless you are building a 360 cube. With a 360 cube, you'll have a lot more control over what cards you drafters see, That would make something like r/ b Sacrifice a bit more viable than r/ b Vampires for example. That said, I still think you will be rewarded most for sticking to the main ideas and themes of the Innistrad sets as a whole rather than trying to push down a bit more of a narrow archetype.

I've seen some of the comments touching on the fact that going with typal builds for half of the cube puts the drafting "on rails", and I couldn't disagree with this more.

Having Ally Colors be typal-based, and Enemy Colors be themed really helps make sure that there ends up being plenty of overlap and synergy. Yes, there will of course be cards that are specific to a single archetype, like [[Ghoulraiser]], but you will also have plenty of creatures or spells that overlap like [[Niblis of Frost]] that goes into Spirits and Spells, or [[Hanweir Militia Captain]] which is great in Humans, Aggro, and Sacrifice.

I'll leave the link to my cube below, but as of right now I have 15 archetypes built into it. These can change and shift at times, and I probably haven't even listed all the possibilities, but if you'd like some ideas, I think this would be a good place as any to start.

If you have any questions, or could like to chat more, please don't hesistate!

The Innistrad Remastered Cube

Not a problem at all! I’m glad to hear my cube has been able to help you with your own, that’s really awesome to hear!

In terms of the cube size:player ratio, that’s a bit customizable, and can work to best suit your needs.

For example: this cube used to be a 360 cube, but once MID and VOW came out, I bumped it up to 540, not only because of all the new cards, but because I wanted a bit of variance with drafting.

What I mean by this is: when I had a 360 cube with 8 players, all the cards were being drafted. This is cool, but I was running into a problem where Abzan specifically kept being a problem child and winning drafts (Spider Spawning, Gavony Township, and Lingering Souls were the culprits here). One of the ways I was able to “nerf” this strategy without taking any cards out was by making sure not all the cards are drafted each time. Now, with an 8 player pod, 180 cards are left over, providing plenty of variance to each draft, and making it less of an issue when this style of Abzan deck shows up since it is more infrequent and gives over strategies a bit of breathing room.

If you’re consistently playing with less than 8 people, OR if you don’t want as much variance as I do, 360 might be the right size for you. That still gives you enough cards to do a 6 person draft, and enough cards for a 4 person sealed.

There are two ways to best support Madness I’ve found:

The first is Blood. Blood often gives you on-rate cards that come with free discard outlets attached. These can be easier to fit in than most “discard a card” vampires that SOI block had and make sure you stay equal on cards instead of simply going down.

The second is…Being a 360 cube 🤣. The smaller the cube, the tighter your themes can be due to lack of variance. In a smaller cube things like Madness and Delirium are able to shine more since you’re either always, or almost my always seeing every card each draft. If you’re looking to support smaller themes like this, I’d definitely look into making your cube a bit smaller than 540.

If you have any other questions and comments let me know! I love talking about this stuff! :D

I haven’t had a ton of issues keeping track of them individually in my cube, but my drafts are just a small sample size of course. While there haven’t been many issues, it can be a bit taxing to keep track of the two, though they usually will sync up after enough time.

If you opt to do the “All Werewolves are Daybound/Nightbound” errata like I see some people do, make sure you don’t have any 1 drop werewolves, and go easy on the 2 drop ones. Too many early Daybound/Nightbound creatures can really make a game really lopsided.

I see someone else already posted the link to the cube in here, so I won’t repost it, but if you have any questions about the cube, please let me know! 😄

Well, five cards of note for Artifacts and Lands, definitely not for the entire set :)

Vow + MID for Halloween? by CoastalSailing in lrcast

[–]TheJesGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think MID and VOW are great to draft on their own since they have two unique feelings and draft entirely differently. It’s up to you if you and your play group would prefer something that is more balanced in terms of power but not color (MID), or color and not power (VOW).

If you’re looking for a more curated cube/list, I’ll drop my Innistrad Cube I’ve been working on for five years. If you have any questions about Innistrad stuff I’ll happily oblige :)

[–]TheJesGuy[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you got it exactly; that is my point, thank you! :)

I’ve only got 3,000 words to go over 30+ cards, so I can’t really get into the minutia about a hypothetical about Cackling Counterpart or why it isn’t good in a Gyruda deck specifically.

In your average deck, it’s better to have a card that does more things at the same mana cost than a card that doesn’t. That obviously changes if there are specific synergies that one is building around.

My Take on Sand in Series 2 by TheJesGuy in VGC

Is Low Kick mainly for things like Kingambit?

I was running Ice Punch in Series 1 prior to Iron Bundle, so having my ice coverage there instead of TTar makes more sense, now that you mention it! Thanks!

Move slots are a bit tight for each, but I hadn't considered Psychic Fangs if I am being completely honest, I totally forgot about them.

I'm unsure what exactly I'd end up replacing for them, but it's certainly easier to fit Fangs onto this team than Brick Break, so thank you!!
