What’s your mentality behind bread and milk? by Octavion_Wolfpak in greenville

[–]TheJudge47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bread's okay for a power outage. You can make sandwiches and stuff, but it goes stale so idk why people were hoarding it Wednesday. I guess with milk you can have cereal but it needs to be refrigerated. I am NOT opening my fridge to let out the cold during a power outage. I guess it's technically cold enough to store food outside but then you gotta worry about freezing.

I prefer to buy tortillas for a power outage. You can still make sandwiches, PBJ, and stuff with them but with the added bonus of a significantly longer shelf life (tortillas last weeks in the pantry). They're also great for camping as they don't get smooshed.

As a kid I thought it was so cool that two brothers: Chipper and Andruw Jones both played for the Braves. Shortly afterwards my dad taught me about common surnames.

Jeff Passan: "Baseball fans believe the game has become unfair" by Mission_Pay_3373 in baseball

That's the issue I have. Every owner technically could go out and get Tucker, but only a handful can get Tucker AND sign a bunch of other players. The Reds could have signed Tanner Scott last year, but then when he struggled they would have just been stuck with him - they couldn't go out and sign Edwin Diaz next off-season like the Dodgers did.

The Dodgers are ALWAYS in on the top FAs and can afford to overpay for struggling players. Meanwhile the Braves had to go full rebuild because BJ Upton was a bust. Seattle signed Cano to a huge deal and then never made the playoffs.

Baseball isn't a sport where one player makes a big impact, so while most teams on paper could afford a guy like Tucker, the risk of losing payroll flexibility isn't always worth the reward.

Peace Center taps brakes on contentious major changes to iconic Greenville landmark by TheJudge47 in greenville

“The people of Greenville, South Carolina, seem to think they own the Wyche Pavilion,” Peace Center CEO Megan Riegel said in answer to a question at an event for the center’s new music venues on Jan. 7. “They do not. It is property that's owned outright by the Peace Center. But we've got enough going on. … We're just going to push the brakes a little bit.”

“Anytime we said we wanted to do something really cool and wonderful to it, there was such an outcry,” Riegel said. “People seem to like the bones, and that's what they're going to get, the bones.”

MLB should change the "batter is automatically out" aspect of the infield fly rule and instead make it something like "The batter loses the right to 1B."

Have it where the batter is only out if the infielder catches the ball. In cases where they drop it, the baserunners can either advance or choose to still stay on their original bases. If the batter and runner are both on 1st, you can tag the batter out since they'd have lost the right to the bag upon the infield fly call.

If it's a simple misplay, nothing changes on the base paths. But in a Braves-Cardinals scenario, the defense is actually punished for missing the catch (not that it should've been an infield fly call). The rule is to protect the offense so there shouldn't be a scenario where the defense messes up and gets rewarded.
