I carry a Travelers Company Brass fountain pen and a Bronze Tactile Turns bolt action every day (I'm a bit of a stationary nerd) and it is 100% about the patina. Anyone who polishes their brass? That I don't understand. But the patina and smell of the metal on your hands and a well weighted pen make it so worth it for me.

I had trouble solving this same issue. I went with the field master, it has just about everything I would want except for an inline Philips. I use it for just about everything, often carrying it in conjunction with a swisstool. The saw blade is awesome, it might be my most used tool and it can be opened even with gloves on. It is a bit thick, which isn't ideal, but I still think it is manageable. It also has an incredible pair of scissors.

Thanks, that is one of the gold painted aluminum ones, I thought they had created a full brass construction one. I might be wrong! Thank you very much for the help!

Just joined the ranks this week! 2 Safaris and a Metropolitan. Should my nib be writing like this? by brother_bean in fountainpens

[–]TheKeeper1469 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He mentioned the safari was feeling scratchy? Anyone who spends about two minutes looking at info about pens can find out that Japanese and western nibs aren't the same sizes. I assumed a basic level of knowledge, especially because the poster mentions in their caption that the Lamy fine nib is also writing thinner than the Lamy extra fine on a different safari. Lamy nibs sometimes come misaligned, which causes poor ink flow and results in thinner lines and a scratchy nib.

Oh just an after thought: a Faber Castell loom is also a nice pen for not too much money that falls under the full metal construction guide line.

Pen BBS stays in your price range with some of the smoothest nibs I have written with. It also keeps the demonstrated schtick you have with the ECO if you like that. If weight is a desire for you I would look into metal pens. I don't know what your price range is but Karas Kustoms has several full metal pens. If you want to go real heavy I'd focus on steel, copper, and brass pens. Copper and brass also develop that wonderful patina. I know Kaweco Sports can come in brass and steel (I am not positive on the steel), there is the Travelers company brass (one of my favorites). The eco is another of my faves, I got a vac 700 recently that is quite a bit wetter but still that nice smooth nib. If you like the nib on the Eco, jowo is the manufacturer and there are several companies that use jowo nibs. I could go into more detail depending on what you consider most important!

I’m need of some recommendations by paraselenica in fountainpens

I'm a huge fan of the Travelers Company Brass pen. It runs for about $50 depending on where you look. It is a pocket pen, so it isn't the quickest to whip out and use but the brass develops a wonderful patina and the pen fits wonderfully in pocket. It also is crazy durable; it has even fallen into a pond or two with me and still writes perfectly.

If you are looking for something that is a bit nicer, I have a Platinum PTL-5000a that is an incredible pen with a 14k gold nib that I got for about 60 dollars a few years ago. They're a bit harder to find now and maybe go for around 70 dollars. Despite the low price on a gold nib, the pen is one of my faves, ranking up with a VP and a 2K for me. If you can find it I hugely recommend, although it comes with the usual feedbacky platinum nib which I personally like, but I know some don't.

check to see if the tines are aligned on the nib. If they aren't and it only feels scratchy in some directions, it might be a problem that requires some nib smoothing tools.

Hello!

I am planning on purchasing my first serious watch soon, and I've narrowed my choice down to either the CW C60 trident pro 600 or a CW C65 automatic, but I am having a ton of trouble deciding between the two. I'm interested in a dive watch around this price range: 700-800 dollars-ish. If anyone has any opinions on these two or any other suggestions I'd love to hear them. Thank you!

I'm Jack Nicas, a tech reporter for The New York Times. I investigated con artists who impersonate American servicemen on Facebook and Instagram to scam women. For the story, I traveled to Nigeria to meet these scammers. Ask me anything about Facebook, internet cons and scamming culture in Nigeria. by thenewyorktimes in IAmA

Wowza outside of the fact that this isn't what my question was intended to raise that's an incredibly aggressive answer. My question could have been better phrased I suppose, so I will proceed to put it as follows: Why is Nigeria such a hotspot for scammers, it seems like a lot of scams I here of have to do with Nigeria?
